The threads did not wait.

The moment Kael and Elira stepped onto the unseen platform before the Loom, a pulse surged through the space-between-spaces—an echo of something not just ancient, but eternal. The Loom responded not with grandeur, but awareness. A single, resonant note thrummed through the air, so pure it stopped time in Kael's chest.

Elira's breath caught. "It knows we're here."

No, Kael whispered, his voice gentle. "It remembers us.".

The Loom, great and shapeless, changed. Its strands flowed like oceans of light and shadow, going around them, stroking them with gusts too old for speech. They shone with a varied memory, a varied universe. A thread gleamed with Kael alone upon a seat of bones. A different one showed Elira looking away from Kael into a storm, her spine tense, her heart broken.

They were not choices. They were temptations.
