I should have known something was off the moment I saw him.
I'd been walking across the quad connecting to where my next class will be held, when the air shifted. It wasn't a breeze or the change in the weather. It was... him.
I didn't know how I knew, but I could feel his eyes on me, like a touch on my skin. I stopped and glanced up, my heart skipping a beat and I froze in my tracks as my gaze met his.
Silver. His eyes were silver, like nothing I'd ever seen before. The kind of silver that shimmered like moonlight, like something not quite real. His smile—well, that should have been my first warning. It was wicked. Too knowing. Like he knew something about me that I didn't even know myself.
I should've run. I should've turned on my heel and walked away. But instead, I stood frozen, caught in his gaze, the world around us fading into nothing.
"Jade". I jerked out of my thoughts and turned to see Ava, my best friend walking over to me.
"What are you doing standing there, we're going to be late for class" I tried to fight the urge to turn back but I couldn't.
I glanced back but he was already gone. "who are you looking for?" Ava asked.
"I thought I saw someone but it doesn't matter. Come on, let's go". Ava shrugged it off and continued talking as we walked to class. I tried listening but my mind kept drifting back to the pair of silver eyes that I just saw.
Who was he? I had never seen him on campus before but the campus was big, I couldn't know everybody but there was something off about him.
As we walked into the class I froze in my steps as I felt the familiar breeze from eailer, my gaze scanning the class until my eyes met he's. He's cold gaze sent shivers down my spin.
"I see someone has caught your eyes" Ava said as we walked over to our usual seat, my eyes finally moving away from he's to meet her's.
"You know who he is?" I asked as we sat down and Ava shrugged.
"Probably a transfer student."
I could still feel he's gaze lingering on me, even when the professor entered and started he's lectures which made it very hard to concentrate.
After lecture, I had barely written anything other than a few jummbled words to make it look like I was paying attention.
As we packed up, Ava leaned closer to me and whispered "Are you okay?". I smiled and nodded but she didn't look convinced.
As we headed out, I glanced back at him but he was occupied with something else which for some reason made me feel relieved a little.
"So, do you have any plans for Saturday night?" Ava asked. "No, why?" .
"There's a party over at Dave's house and he invited us both and plus the new guy you've been drooling over is going be there" Ava said.
"And what makes you think that?" I tried to hide the curiosity in my voice but I hard failed miserably.
Ava smiled as she talked "I saw him talking with Dave earlier, they seemed really close."
I thought about it for a while, i didn't want to make Ava even more worried by refusing so I shrugged and said "why not?".
