I was walking home during a terrible winter night. The shops were still bright, and the moon was crescent-shaped. The night looked eerie—or maybe it was just my imagination, or the underlying, crippling anxiety in my being. I was walking towards my rented apartment, which was enclosed by some green grass that was almost dried because of the dark miasma in the air.
I heard some rustling sounds, but I was hesitant to check, as kidnapping and other sorts of crimes were a common occurrence here. But I braced myself and dragged my cowardly self to look behind the grass, and then I saw the very thing that would turn my life into hell.
What I saw was a female with tattered clothes. She looked like she had been physically hurt. She had long black hair with blue lines between them. I attempted to help her, though I was extremely hesitant—because although she looked tattered, she was still beautiful, and her eyes were colored with deep blue irises.
I was about to help her up. Then she gazed at me and said something in a distorted language: "Derf merf kerf, ferf." I could not move, and my heart began to race. I had goosebumps all over my body. Then I saw her stand up in an eerie way, and when she opened her mouth, I realized she had sharp fangs—which I had not noticed earlier.
Immediately, I assumed she was a vampire and that it was the end for me. Though I had crippling depression and suicidal tendencies, I realized that I DID NOT WANT TO DIE. I watched her as she moved toward me and buried her fangs into my skin. It was painful. My blood began to clot and unclot. There was dread in my soul; I could feel my very being being transformed into something malicious.
It took me some moments to realize that the unknown lady who had just bitten me was no longer breathing. I immediately removed myself from her arm. I left her outside and quickly ran inside to try to comprehend what had happened to me.
As I was running toward the door to my apartment, I stepped on a piece of glass. As I attempted to pick it up, I saw someone else staring at me in the mirror. I fell to the ground, terribly scared. I picked the mirror up. Then, as I attempted to break it, a voice came and said, "You are now me, and our souls have been intertwined." I looked at the mirror again, but no one was there.
Something prompted me to go back to check on the unknown lady who had bitten me. Then I saw something surreal—she had stood up with no marks on her body. She had a new dress, and more importantly, she had no fangs. I went ahead and confronted her to ask why she had bitten me, but she had no recollection of what had happened.
I wanted to know why she bit me. Then, out of nowhere, talons began to grow from my fingers. When she saw it, she was horrified and ran away from me. I stood there with no will to move or do anything. I realized that I had become something INHUMANE—something MALEVOLENT and inherently evil.
I went inside my apartment and locked the door. I stared at the mirror, not knowing who my reflection was anymore, even though it was my face looking back at me. After some time, I went to my computer and searched "terms related to vampires." Most of my results were references from fictional manga or western comics. My other option was to look into the dark web. I understood that I would need to use a Tor browser and the like, but I perished the thought, as I would probably see more eerie and gory web materials.
Then I uncontrollably fell into a deep sleep.
Then I woke up—and I instinctively realized that I was dreaming, as I had some experience with lucid dreaming. I saw the unknown lady who had bitten me, but at the same time, I also couldn't see her. Then she materialized herself into a familiar face, and she looked at me. As I was about to utter my questions, she replied and said, "Before you attempt to ask me anything, let me start by telling you that you have become a vampire, as you suspected. I can read your mind, so I will answer all your questions before I tell you the tragedy that will probably befall you.
"Firstly, I am a being of the night, and I just made you my successor by biting you. As you know, vampires are immortal. I have transferred my soul to you, and by doing so, we are now two entities in one body. Our soul and destiny are now intertwined. And the 'me' you saw earlier is no longer me, as a new soul has already possessed my former body."
I was about to ask her why she had been in a battered state, but before I did, she read my mind and answered: "You will find out along the way."
I was irritated by that response because I never asked for all this, and she wasn't being helpful. As I attempted to raise my voice, I woke up.
I heard a voice in my head which said, "You have all my abilities now. It is up to you to do as you please—but you cannot escape my destiny, as our soul is now intertwined."
