Chapter 1 - Perfect

The silence was shattered by the piercing beep of Aria's phone, its shrill tone slicing through the air like a knife. She jolted upright, her heart racing with anticipation, as she frantically snatched her phone from the nightstand. Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through her messages, her eyes scanning the screen with desperate hope. But her excitement was short-lived, as her face contorted in a mixture of disappointment and despair. A sharp crease etched itself between her brows, and her eyes clouded over, the dark circles beneath seeming to deepen with each passing moment.

'Ugh, still rejected,' Aria muttered, her voice barely above a whisper, as she flopped back onto her bed with a defeated sigh. The sound of her own voice was like a cruel echo, mocking her failed dreams. 'What's the point? I'm just not good enough.' The words felt like acid on her tongue, burning away her confidence and leaving her feeling hollow. She pulled the blankets over her head, ready to surrender to a day of sulking and self-doubt, the softness of her bed a meager comfort against the crushing weight of her disappointment.

Just as she was about to succumb to her despair, Aria's mom's voice pierced through her sulking, 'Aria, dinner's ready!' The words were a jarring reminder that life went on, even when her own dreams seemed to be dying. For a moment, Aria thought about ignoring her, about hiding under the blankets forever, but then she remembered she had to get ready for her first day at a new high school. The thought sent a shiver down her spine

a new school, new faces, new expectations. 'What could be worse than rejection?' she mused, pushing aside her disappointment like a fragile leaf blown by the wind.

She got up, smoothing out her rumpled clothes, and headed downstairs, the aroma of her mom's cooking wafting up to greet her like a warm hug. As she descended into the kitchen, Aria felt a sense of trepidation wash over her. The familiar comfort of her home was about to be disrupted by the unknown, and she wasn't sure if she was ready. But she took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenges ahead, knowing she needed a healthy dinner to fuel her for the trials of her first day at a new school.
