With the game afoot, Alex and Francesca moved into action; they stirred up rumors and disinformation to confuse Marco's men-and it happened just that way.
With rumors swirling among Marco's men, Alex's cell quietly infiltrated Marco's organization to gather intelligence until the time would come to strike.
Back in the city, Francesca put her dark arts to good use. She seduced Marco's men, poisoning them against him-something only Francesca could do.
Marco's grip on the city was slowly loosening: alliances were forming against him, and his web was crumbling.
Alex and Francesca were perched far away, biding their time until the final blow could be struck.
But all these voices nagged at Alex's conscience, the fact was something out of sync. Deep down, he felt Francesca was withholding something from him that was really could be a horrible motive for her.
There came a time when distrust rose against Francesca in an empty warehouse one night while he was waiting for a sign to move forward, he confronted her directly.
"What's going on, Francesca?" he demanded in a whisper, with urgency. "You're hiding something from me."What is it?"
Francesca's smile made her look like a cunning predator.
"I hide nothing from you, dear Alex," she replied. "I just play the game. You have to trust me if you want to win."
Alex stood vacillating, unable to make a decision one way or another. He finally locked eyes with her and noticed a certain something in them that made him trust her.
For the time being, at least.
"Okay," he finally said. "I trust you. But if you betray me, Francesca..."
Now the smile grew wider on her lips.
"I would never do that, Alex. You are too important to me. Now, back to our game. We have much to attend to before we deal with Marco."
And with that, the plan was set in motion, and Marco's days were numbered.
But at the same time, he has a nagging feeling that he may just be walking into a trap.
