Chapter 3 - Episode 2- Complex Earth

A crisp breeze took to the wind as the sun finished disappearing over the horizon. This small town in England. It had a large cliff that overlooked the beach. It was a gorgeous view and was a popular picnic area. It was often nicknamed 'Lovers Look-Out' But he was always here, alone.

What was he meant to do?! 'Not running away from her is what!' He always did this! Ran away from the people who offered him release of this torment. 'This stupid scar!' Why couldn't he just let it go? 'Why couldn't everything be different?'

Earth. His mother always spoke about it like Earth itself was foreign to her. 'Complex' is how she described it. Earth was plagued with the beings that strives only to push forward, to not stop for anyone. If you were different; you were weak and everyone would eventually see that when they kept moving forward and you stopped.

Zack was different despite it being fate rather than choice. 'The system was built to make similarity superior, unique minds fail and equality a fantasy.' Zack was lucky to be born into wealth, he loved his mother and his sister. But he knew he couldn't pull them behind either. One day he would have to find his place in the gutter of society.

He felt the chill run through his damp shirt, the moon creating a surreal glow over the cliff. He stared at his hands in silence. He hadn't gone home to change and he wasn't in any rush to get back. He felt his phone buzz in his pocket, he quickly picked it up. 'Danny'

'Stop running, Zack.'

Danny stared at her phone as Zack's voice mail popped up. She sighed and knew exactly where he would be.

"I'll go get him for you, Carla. Sorry for making him run off." She huffed and Carla shook her head.

"No, Zack needs to get out of his shell. You are a lovely girl. He knows that."

"See you later, Carla." She said before walking away. She made it to the base of the hill and began to climb. She continued to ring him, each time going to voice mail, perhaps it was dead? Maybe on silent?

She had only met Carla a couple times, but this time Danny had stayed longer than usual. There Carla gave her the mercy of telling her why Zack was the way he was.

"I assume you went to a different primary school than him, right?"

"Yes, I live in the next town over."

"The story we tell people is that he was upset with his father leaving. But I'm afraid that the story is much more than that."

She looked at her phone and soon got to the peak, her head running. 'His scar. His father. His childhood.'

 "ZACK!" She yelled out.

Finally she reached the top, and there stood a lonely bench looking over a gorgeous view.

 "Damn it!"

Carla looked up from her glass of wine in shock, she rubbed her fore head gently before sighing. She looked down at her phone and an unknown number was calling her. It was Danny.

"I'm sorry, Carla. He's not here."

"It's okay. He just rang me. He said he's leaving to see his godfather. He is safe."

After a small sorrowful exchange between them she put her phone on the table, her history having no trace of Zack's number.

 "Be careful, son."
