David'S POV.
"I didn't meet her, I just smelled her scent but then those malicious fools didn't let me get close enough to her before she ran away with her friends." I said to them not to be impressed with them being so interested in my love life.
"This is strange, don't you think? How can he have a scent and not get a glimpse?" Oswald asked, looking at me with doubt evident on his face.
"It's possible, Uncle. You don't have to get too close to them before you can have their scent, I'm sure we all know that." I couldn't convince these people at all, I'll just let them say what they want.
"So what's the way out, how do you plan on finding your mate?? Do you want to lose her like that? Cadmus asked after clearing his throat.
"Right now uncle I don't know what to say to this, it's my first time you know. Is there a way I can find her? I asked looking at them, I really wanted to find my mate not to retain the Alpha position but to have someone I can talk to that wasn't pressuring me to do something.
"I have a suggestion, David, what do you think about a single women gathering or process of elimination? Alistair asked speaking up after a while,
"What's that? I haven't heard of that before, Uncle." I replied wanting to know how it could help me find my mate.
"Well, it's not much of a process; it's just gathering of single ladies together day by day to get their scents. It's a simple process, just a little bit stressful. What do you think about it?" Alistair asked after explaining.
I didn't know if I wanted to have a lot of women's scent on my nose, it would be tiring that I knew but remembering seeing her smile made me want to do it. I looked at Cadmus, he was the oldest amongst all the elders.
"Uncle, can we speak somewhere privately? I asked him, my eyes pleading. "You don't like the idea?" He asked, laughing.
Standing up he looked at me "let's go David, lead the way. We'll be back as elders."
I stood up and walked out with Cadmus leading him to my armour room.
"Do you plan to kill me after the talk?"He asked, smiling.
"No no Uncle, I just wanted to ask if this elimination process was safe. I really don't want the whole pack finding out that I lost my mate and only have her scent, it would be embarrassing." I asked him, looking at him cautiously, to know if his reaction and words would differ.
He looked at me and asked "Do you really want to do this or do you want to do a low key search?? You look nervous."
"I'll do it Uncle, I trust you that's why." I said looking at him his reaction showed sincere concern. "Let's go now, before the elders start complaining that I'm keeping them waiting."
"Okay, my boy."
We walked back to the meeting room, to meet Evander getting orders from the rest of the elders.
"Evander, what's going on?" I asked, a smile appearing on my face, relieved to see him.
"Well the elders said you left them unattended to talk to your favourite elder so I had to entertain them." He explained briefly and then mouthed for me to save him.
I laughed and motioned for him to leave, sitting down with the elders. I noticed Oswald looked at me with annoyance, I didn't budge.
"What's your agreement with your favourite uncle, if you refuse to do this. We'll have to find a mate for you or you step down, what's your take on this David? Oswald asked me still with annoyance laced in his voice.
At first, I thought delaying my answer would let me know what they really had in mind but Cadmus had other ideas.
"He'll do the elimination process, elders. Let's take it easy on him. Finding the right mate isn't easy. We all know that; but we've reached an agreement. The elimination process will start from the next full moon. Is that fine by you all?" He noticed the tension in the room from Oswald.
"Sure, let's do that. Thank you David for agreeing to this." Alistair said to me, I nodded.
"How sure are we, we'll find his mate Cadmus? Why don't we just get him a mate? My daughter hasn't found her mate yet."
I spoke up and he was getting on my nerves already, "I'll find my mate like Elder Cadmus has said, let's leave it at that no more. I looked at him, I knew I hit a nerve but I didn't care. I rather remain mateless and step down that get mated to his daughter.
"We can now leave, the next full moon we'll gather at the pack hall for the elimination event. Take care, David." Alistair said standing up and walking out. The other two elders followed suit.
Cadmus looked at me "we'll find her, rest assured." He said and looked at me. Standing up he walked out, I looked at Oswald who didn't seem eager to leave.
"Aren't you leaving, Uncle?" I asked if this man was becoming a pain in my neck and I didn't want to be rude to him but it was hard not to.
"I wanted to talk to you privately, why don't you consider my daughter? And spare us the search or elimination process." He asked cunningly.
Laughing hard, "I rather step down than do that, despite it being an assigned mate. There's a punishment for going against the moon goddesses wish and I wouldn't want to be in such a position or get punished for what I know I could have avoided. I appreciate your concern but I politely decline it." I said to him calmly, he was the cunning elder in the pack and known for twisting words.
I noticed him looking embarrassed but he didn't give up. "If we don't find your mate, I'll bring this up again by then you should be ready to accept her or you step down. I'm sure you wouldn't want that."
"I'll step down then, if that happens Uncle Oswald. I think it's time you left." I said to him he looked at me, shook his head and stood up. He stopped and turned to look at me "won't you see me out?" He asked.
"No Uncle, I have meeting orders to place and I have to start arrangements for the elimination process, bye Uncle." I waved to him and watched him leave before sinking into my seat, frustration evident on my face.
Evander came in almost immediately, "how'd it go, what's the conclusion?? Are we searching for her or you're stepping down? He asked, curiosity piqued.
"Lord, I dunno, I guess we are searching for her through the elimination process. At this point I think it's fine I step down." I said looking at him.
"Oh dear, I can't believe you're saying this. Let's go find your princess charming." He said pulling me up from my seat.
We walked down the corridor from the office as I narrated the details of the meeting.
"So holdup, Oswald wants his daughter to be Luna? That's why he's fussing this way, that's weak." Evander was annoyed finally speaking up after I had finished the details.
"I thought Alistair would be the one to frustrate me but good Lord Oswald is a bag of frustration. He didn't need to do much to make me frustrated.
"Soooo….." Evander looked at me.
"Sooo, what man? Speak up!" I said annoyed.
"What's the plan? Are we searching separately or are we waiting for the next moon?" He asked.
"We are waiting for the n—--" I stopped talking, struck by a voice.
"Hi," the voice said quietly and calmly.
Who was this beauty??
