Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The First Devil Fruit

In the end, that batch of Navy families was bought by Rosse for 1.5 billion in one go.

"Saint Rosse, this old man owes you a favor!", Zephyr gently exhaled a breath of turbid air, and the look in his eyes toward Rosse also changed.

"Remember, you normally don't bother with idle matters. But as my CP0, until I find a suitable steward, the defense and management of my palace will be handled by you."

Rosse glanced at Zephyr, "I bought the people for you, but I don't raise idle folks under me."

"I won't make things difficult for you," Zephyr slightly lowered his head, expressing his respect.

He managed thousands of unruly Navy troublemakers into submission, managing just a batch of Navy families wouldn't be difficult at all.

"Ladies and gentlemen, now we've come to the final auction item. The last item is extraordinary, not a slave, but a secret treasure of the sea."

Even though they knew such a treasure had nothing to do with them, everyone in the auction house still looked at the host with fiery eyes.

Even Rosse raised his eyebrows slightly.

The Navy families were the final item he had arranged, and what came next had nothing to do with him.

Presumably, the person in charge added this treasure after learning of his and Roswald's attendance.

A secret treasure of the sea, just hearing the name made it obvious, it was a Devil Fruit.

But which one, that was yet to be known.

Even Zephyr and Roswald showed interested expressions at this moment.

After all, Devil Fruits have a variety of powers, and some even possess invincible abilities.

"That's right, the final auction item is a Devil Fruit! And not just any Devil Fruit, but a Paramecia-type!"

"Paramecia—Heal-Heal Fruit! Starting bid at 1 billion, let the bidding begin!" [T/N: Chiyu-Chiyu no Mi]

"Heal-Heal Fruit?"

Rosse showed surprise on his face, looking at the green spiral-patterned fruit in the host's hand, his eyes shining with a fiery light.

Heal-Heal Fruit, definitely considered an extremely powerful support-type fruit.

Even though it couldn't directly slap away injuries like the Paw-Paw Fruit, and wasn't as good as some Mythical Zoans with innate healing, it could heal diseases and external injuries, giving it very strong versatility in the world of pirates.

Currently, he didn't have any other healing-type fruits on hand, getting the Heal-Heal Fruit at least meant he'd have some medical insurance in the future.

"Saint Rosse, the effect of this fruit is very strong," Zephyr noticed Rosse was tempted, and whispered to him, "According to Navy records, the healing ability of this fruit is second only to the Op-Op Fruit. It can easily heal injuries of Admiral-level powerhouses, and even treat some serious illnesses and terminal conditions."

In simple terms, this was a fruit with extremely strong supportive effects, with healing ability effective even on Admirals.

"I know," Already knowing the value of this fruit, Rosse wasn't about to let it slip away.

"2 billion!", Rosse directly threw out a price that crushed everyone else, instantly killing any competitive desire even in Roswald, who had no interest in the first place.

Though Roswald was frustrated, frustrated about where Rosse got his money from.

But in his heart, he still believed Rosse wouldn't go so far as to take things by force.

This auction also ended with Rosse's decisive bidding, drawing the final curtain.

"Admiral Zephyr, use Observation Haki to monitor the back area, don't let anyone swap out my men or the fruit," Rosse wasn't in a rush, just issued a precautionary reminder.

"This old man understands. Saint Rosse, you can just call this old man Zephyr," Zephyr gently nodded. Just this one auction was enough for him to recognize Rosse from the bottom of his heart, and also accept this new position.

He didn't know whether Rosse could eliminate all pirates, but since he himself couldn't do it, he wouldn't demand that others must.

However, judging by Rosse's attitude toward pirates, it seemed mostly to be disgust, which comforted Zephyr.

As long as he could deal with more pirates while by Rosse's side, he would already be satisfied.

The Navy training camp could have someone else take his place as instructor. He also wanted to try a different path.

If he could sit in a high position in the World Government through Rosse, and use the power of the entire World Government, maybe there was still a chance to eliminate all pirates.

As soon as the auction ended, the nobles and wealthy merchants inside quickly rushed out.

There were two Celestial Dragons here, watching the fun during the auction was one thing, but staying here afterward was dangerous. If the two Celestial Dragons started fighting, they feared they'd be caught up in it in a second.

"Zephyr, looks like there are still a few rats mixed in the crowd. Also, I don't think I've seen your strength yet," Rosse looked at a few tall and fierce-looking figures among the fleeing crowd, and couldn't help but curve the corners of his lips upward.

Just one glance, and he knew those few weren't good people.

But pirates hanging around a slave auction wasn't unusual.

"This old man will handle it right away!", Zephyr grinned, with a trace of cruelty in his eyes.

He had already recognized those few pirates during the auction, and had locked onto them with Observation Haki.

Originally, he planned to deal with them after things settled down.

Now that he had the chance to do it early, of course he wouldn't let it slip.

WHOOSH!!!

Zephyr's burly figure disappeared from the spot in an instant, appearing at the auction hall entrance in the blink of an eye.

"Who are you? Get out of the way now! I'm a noble from the Kingdom of Inameg," One noble didn't recognize Zephyr and, in his panic to flee, shouted angrily.

"No, no! This is the person who just sat beside His Highness!", The person next to him quickly tugged the noble, stopping him from acting recklessly.

Zephyr frowned, but still acted on his Navy habits and prepared to let the noble pass.

But before he could speak—

BANG!

A gunshot rang out, and the back of the noble's head now had a bloody hole. He collapsed to the ground with a thud.

"Zephyr, next time you meet anyone who dares block the way, kill them all. That's the authority I grant you. Oh, and don't kill those pirates, I want to execute them myself," Rosse blew the smoke off the barrel of his gun, spun it with a flourish, and holstered it at his waist.

If it weren't for the noble status, this guy would've probably been G-level. The fact Rosse shot him personally already gave him enough face.

'Gotta say, killing with a gun looks pretty cool!'

The people who hadn't yet escaped watched as Rosse killed a noble just like that, and they immediately fell silent, not daring to make a sound.

"Saint Rosse, this old man understands," Zephyr looked deeply at Rosse, remembering his words.

The methods used by someone beside a Celestial Dragon were indeed different from the Navy's.

So long as it's someone you want to kill, you can do so without worrying about consequences… this might be the very source of the Celestial Dragons' evil.

"Except for a few among you, the rest may leave now," Zephyr spoke calmly, stepping aside to make a path.

Seeing the open exit, the wealthy merchants and nobles no longer dared to hesitate and rushed out in a hurry.

The few pirates also realized something was wrong and tried to sneak out with the crowd.

But with Zephyr present, how could they be given the chance?

"Pirates—just stay put!"

BOOM!

Zephyr's figure darted through the crowd at high speed, and his large build didn't hinder his movement at all.

Each punch knocked out a pirate instantly.

Rosse followed behind Zephyr, calmly giving the downed pirates the finishing blow.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Each gunshot meant the end of a life.

[...]

In just a moment, all the wealthy merchants and nobles had run off. Only the noble's corpse and 8 fresh pirate corpses were left on the ground.

The 8 pirates were all at least D-level, with one even being C-level.

Altogether, they gave Rosse 17,000 experience, along with special rewards: C-level Swordsmanship, three D-level Martial Arts, two D-level Marksmanship, and one D-level Swordsmanship.

Unfortunately, it takes 10 of the same level to synthesize into a higher level. Gotta keep delivering justice.
