Prologue: The Awakening of the Chosen

Prologue: The Awakening of the Chosen

Long before the sun rose on the day Ash and Joshua Ketchum would embark on their journeys, the world of Pokémon lay in fragile balance. Ancient Sinnoh scrolls spoke of two heirs—"the Chosen Ones"—who would master both Aura and Psychic forces to stand against a looming darkness. In those same texts, the legendary Arceus, Mewtwo, and Mew awaited the arrival of their destined partners, ready to bestow upon them power to heal the world.

Delia Ketchum, gentle and nurturing, had long whispered bedtime stories of her own childhood friend, Red—the world's greatest trainer. Years earlier, Red had ventured far beyond Pallet Town, chasing a prophecy he only half understood. In his absence, he entrusted Delia with his heart, and together they bore a son: Joshua Ketchum. Yet Joshua's birth remained a secret, known only to a handful of elders at Professor Oak's lab. His existence was the first sign that the prophecy was coming to fruition.

Ash Ketchum—Delia's firstborn—grew up with boundless energy, chasing Pikachu through sunlit fields, his laughter echoing across Pallet Town. From the moment Ash had laid eyes on his partner, he felt a spark: an Aura connection that thrummed through his veins. But neither he nor Delia realized that Joshua, born a year later, possessed a complementary gift: innate Psychic sensitivity. By age five, Joshua could lift pebbles with his mind and sense the emotions of wild Pokémon.

Under Professor Oak's guidance, the brothers trained in secret. Ash learned to harness Aura Sight, perceiving the life force that bound all creatures. Joshua's Psychic aptitude blossomed under the tutelage of Sabrina, the Kanto Gym Leader, who visited Pallet Town to study Joshua's rare abilities. From her, Joshua learned telekinesis, mind-to-mind communication, and how to guard against psychic intrusion.

Yet no training compared to the trials they faced in the Hidden Grove, deep in the Viridian Forest. There, the spectral form of Mew materialized before them—its playful eyes reflecting infinite wisdom. Ash knelt, hand to heart, and Mew responded with a pulse of pure Aura. Joshua extended his mind, and Mew's thoughts—childlike, curious—washed over him. In that moment, a triad of souls united: human, Aura, and Psychic. Mew bestowed upon them a gift: a promise that when the time was right, it would stand by their side.

Not long after, a thunderous roar echoed across the sky as Arceus descended in a pillar of light. The Original One's presence flattened the trees and set the clearing ablaze with radiance. Ash and Joshua, standing side by side, felt the world shift beneath their feet. Arceus spoke—not in words, but in a chorus of thoughts—acknowledging them as guardians. A single scale, shimmering like molten silver, fell into Joshua's palm. Arceus's essence infused his Psychic power, unlocking hidden depths of telepathy. To Ash, Arceus granted the knowledge of Cosmic Aura, a force that could mend wounds and calm storms.

Mewtwo's arrival was more turbulent. Born of human hubris, it bore a deep mistrust of people. In a clandestine lab in Cerulean City, Team Rocket scientists had recreated the mythical creature. When the laboratory exploded, Mewtwo escaped into the night, its rage consuming entire forests. The brothers tracked its devastation, arriving at the crater of a destroyed canyon. Ash and Joshua confronted Mewtwo, bracing against waves of psychic fury. Ash summoned his Aura Shield, its golden light quelling the tempest. Joshua reached out, offering understanding instead of conflict. Mewtwo's fists stilled, tears of anguish glistening as it glimpsed a future where humans and Pokémon stood as equals. With trembling trust, it pledged loyalty to the brothers.

By the time they were fourteen, Ash's partner roster had grown: his first love Serena trained alongside him, teaching him grace and strategy; May's exuberant optimism bolstered his spirit; female Mew flitted around him like a guardian angel; even female Pikachu—Ash's lifelong friend—grew more attuned to Aura than any of her kin. Joshua's companions included Misty, whose fierce loyalty ignited his courage; a female Mewtwo whose psychic bond rivaled his own; and female Arceus, whose divine power resonated with his every thought. Together, the ten friends formed an unbreakable circle of trust, laughter, and promise.

As their eighteenth birthdays approached, a final vision came to them in dreams: a world shrouded in shadow, evil Teams from every region converging to shatter the harmony between humans and Pokémon. Only by mastering all ten Leagues—from Kanto to Galar—and by forging bonds with Legendary and Mythical Pokémon could the Chosen Ones hope to repel the darkness.

On the eve of their departure, Delia and Red stood at the edge of their garden, watching the stars. Red placed a hand on Delia's shoulder. "Our boys were born for this," he said quietly. "They carry the weight of every dream we ever had."

Delia smiled through tears. "Then let them light the world."

When dawn broke, Joshua and Ash—side by side—stepped onto the path that led beyond Pallet Town. With the blessing of their mentors, the love of their families, and the power of Aura and Psychic fused within their souls, they vowed:

> "We will stand as champions, guardians of all regions. We will heal, protect, and unite. Together."

And so the journey of the Chosen Ones began.

Chapter 1: The Kanto Adventure Begins

1. A New Dawn in Pallet Town

The first light of morning painted Pallet Town in gentle hues of rose and gold as Ash and Joshua made their way down Route 1. At eighteen, they strode with confident purpose, their gear slung over broad shoulders. Ash's worn cap sat at a jaunty angle, Pikachu perched on his shoulder, cheeks sparking with excitement. Joshua walked beside him, hair tousled by the breeze, his eyes calm yet alight with inner power.

Behind them trailed Serena, May, Misty, Brock, and the others—each clutching a Poké Ball or two, determined to see their friends off. Professor Oak stood at the threshold of his lab, clipboard in hand and spectacles gleaming. He offered both brothers a knowing smile.

"Ash, Joshua," he began, voice warm. "You've both trained diligently. Today you'll meet your first Pokémon companions. Choose wisely—and remember: your bond matters more than raw strength."

Ash's grin was unstoppable. "Thanks, Professor. Pikachu and I are ready!" He held up a single Poké Ball—the one Oak had reserved especially for him. Inside waited the electric spark of his partner.

Joshua inhaled deeply. In his pocket rested a Poké Ball infused with Arceus's blessing—inside, a Charmander whose ember burned with cosmic energy. "I won't let you down," he murmured, as he pressed the button. The Poké Ball's red light flashed, and Charmander emerged, tail flame flickering.

Misty stepped forward with a smile. "Congratulations, Joshua. Charmander's a fine choice. May your bond grow as strong as mine and Psyduck's."

Serena and May waved, cheering on their friends. Even female Mew and Mewtwo hovered in the background, invisible to others but present in spirit, ready to guide their chosen trainers.

2. First Steps Toward Viridian Forest

With starters in hand, Ash and Joshua embarked northward. Route 1's grass rustled underfoot, sending wild Pidgey fluttering skyward. Joshua paused, closing his eyes to sense the life force around him. He felt a faint flicker—an injured Rattata, caught in a trap. With a gentle push of Psychic energy, he freed the Rattata, soothing its pain. It scampered away, pausing to look back as if in gratitude.

Ash knelt beside a berry bush, Aura Sight illuminating the fruits' vitality. "Looks like these are perfect for Charmander," he said, tossing a Leppa Berry. Charmander caught it deftly, crunching with gusto.

Pikachu bounded forward at Ash's call. Ash whispered a wordless request, and Pikachu's cheeks glowed with aura as it gathered electricity. Together, trainer and partner set off in harmony—Aura and Electric energies dancing in tandem.

Soon, the forest's canopy swallowed them in dappled shadows. The air grew thick with the scent of moss and mystery. Serena and May, trailing close behind, exchanged awed glances.

"This place is amazing," Serena breathed. "I can almost feel Mew's presence."

May nodded. "I wonder if we'll see her today."

Misty fell in step with Joshua. "Just be careful—Team Rocket's known to lurk here."

3. An Unexpected Encounter

Deep in Viridian Forest, a sinister laugh shattered the calm. Three figures in black and white uniforms emerged from the undergrowth: Jessie, James, and their mischievous Meowth.

"Prepare for trouble!" Jessie announced, twirling a Poké Ball. James grinned. "And make it double!" Meowth smirked. "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Ash's eyes narrowed. "Team Rocket! Not again!"

Before anyone could react, two powerful blasts of energy erupted. Misty's Psyduck roared in confusion, Serena's Fletchling dodged nimbly, and May's Torchic flared bravely. But Team Rocket's new weapon—a sinister cannon on wheels—loosed a wave of dark energy, ensnaring the wild Pokémon and sending them into frenzied panic.

Joshua stepped forward, aura flaring around him like a golden aura cloak. With a calm gesture, he directed a Psychic Pulse at the cannon, destabilizing its core. Sparks flew as wires twisted and circuits fried. Simultaneously, Ash and Pikachu unleashed a Thunderbolt, frying the remaining energy cells. The cannon groaned and collapsed in a shower of scrap metal.

"Hey! You meddling kids!" Jessie shrieked. James unleashed a Flamethrower, but Charmander countered with an Ember—its flame brighter than any ordinary Charmander's. Misty's Psyduck and May's Torchic joined the fray, forcing Team Rocket to retreat. "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Meowth wailed as they shot skyward.

Wild Pokémon, freed from the cannon's influence, rallied around Ash and Joshua, chirping their thanks. Mew's faint giggle echoed through the leaves, a promise that she watched over them.

4. A Gift from Professor Oak

When the dust settled, the group found themselves back on Route 2. Professor Oak awaited with a picnic laid out on a fallen log—sandwiches, berries, and steaming hot tea.

"Well done," Oak praised, handing Ash a Special Badge case. "Your first victory against Team Rocket—and your first real taste of adventure. You've earned this." Inside, two empty slots gleamed, ready to hold the Kanto badges.

Joshua grinned as he accepted a small golden compass from Oak. "This will guide you to your next destination," Oak explained. "And it's attuned to your aura signature, Joshua. It will only point toward places where your strength and compassion are needed most."

Serena, May, Misty, and Brock gathered around, cheering. Even Brock—who'd only intended to guide the boys through Pewter City's Gym—looked on with pride. "You two make quite the team," he said. "I can't wait to see where you go next."

5. The Path to Pewter City

As afternoon light waned, Ash and Joshua set their sights on the looming silhouette of Pewter City's granite spires. The path wound upward, flanked by rocky crags and pine forests. Misty and Brock would join them for the Gym challenge; Serena and May planned to head east toward Cerulean City to continue their own journeys, promising to reunite at the Indigo Plateau.

Before parting, Serena pressed a small vial into Ash's hand. "A Pinap Berry extract," she explained. "Helps Pikachu channel aura more efficiently." May handed Joshua a ribbon woven from silk—"a keepsake from the Contest circuit," she said. "For Charmander to wear proudly."

Under a sky streaked with pink and purple, Ash and Joshua climbed. The air grew thinner; every breath carried the scent of adventure. Joshua paused at a ledge overlooking Pallet Town. "We're really doing this, aren't we?"

Ash bumped shoulders with him. "Together."

As they crested the final hill, Pewter City lay before them in stone and shadow. The Gym's doors stood open—a silent invitation.

"First badge," Joshua whispered, fist clenched.

"First step toward becoming champions," Ash replied, eyes alight.

With hearts pounding and partners by their side—Pikachu's electric crackle, Charmander's ember glow—they entered the Pewter Gym. The journey through Kanto had truly begun.
