Chapter 1 - A Gamble (1)

I was born with the Innate Technique "Upgrade", a Common-Tier Technique which can upgrade the tier of an Item, with a 0,0001% chance, destroying it if it fails.

Seeing no potential in me, my family sold me to the Imperial Family as a slave, just so they could earn some gold.

I hate them.

"Hey, you there! Pick up the pace! A mere bag carrier like you dares to slack off?!"

Clap

Pick up the pace? I'm going as fast as I can you f**k. Just you wait, when I get my chance, none of you will escape.

"Be careful everybody, the Boss' lair is just up ahead!"

The Imperial Knights, numbered in the 100's, accompanied by the second prince are conquering a dungeon, a dark, scary and dangerous place deep underground crawling with Monsters.

Here I am at Level 3, while most of these guys surpass Level 100!

The second prince has already reached level 150, and is approaching the Mythical-Tier!

How lucky he is to be born with a Legendary-Tier Technique.

So far the Dungeon has been easy, this will be another smooth ride for The Knights.

As long as they win, I can keep trying to break free.

ROOOAARRRR!

A strong echo radiated throughout the dungeon, rocks fell from the ceeling, barely leaving anyone but the knights and the prince alive. I was one of the lucky ones.

"We are engaging, everyone charge!"

The prince commanded the Knights, and everyone attacked the Boss at once.

A large Mythical-Tier Dragon, unbefitting of the Legendary-Tier Dungeon we were in.

The Knights struggled, with the Prince at the forefront.

They fought for hours, the shockwaves from the battle killed the other slaves besides me.

I was lucky to be alive.

And in the end, the Prince gave his final strike, which beheaded the Dragon.

Through this fierce fight, the Prince was struggling to stay alive, with blood everywhere.

It felt horrid, I couldn't bare to watch.

The Knights all fell, which left me and the Prince as the only ones standing.

"Pas..s me.. th...e potions.."

He ordered me from afar, barely 100 meters apart.

He moved like a zombie, gasping for air and on death's door.

As I reached for the potions, I had a thought.

What if I just let him die here? What if I use this as an opportunity to escape from this life of slavery?

He begged me, slowly getting closer.

My hands on the potion.

Finally, he was within 5 meters.

Yet he fell on the ground and uttered

"Quickly...."

I glanced at him, and then back at the empty lair of the deceased dragon.

There was a strange chest hidden behind the dragon.

And something seemed as if.. it called out to me.

Ignoring the dying prince, I rushed there.

The prince gave out, and saw the light.

What a huge place this was, I had never seen a boss's lair.

I struggled to open the chest.

I tried my best for a few minutes, and finally, I got it to open.

A shiny treasure awaited me, full of riches.

Yet what caught my eye was the grimoire hidden within.

[Skill Book (Common-Tier): Absorb]

[Effect: Able to absorb any type of Magic for 10 Seconds and make it disappear]

[Cooldown: 48 Hours]

Wow, is this the treasure they risked their life for?

And as I stare at the world around me, I figure I'd die once I come out of this place, being punished for the death of the prince.

It's all or nothing, let's gamble!

I'll use my Innate Technique: Upgrade!
