Chapter 7 - 7

The monster scrambles up the hill, moving more like a big cat than any horse you've ever seen, then leaps, clearing ten yards in an effortless bound. You loose your arrow, hitting the horse-thing in the upper chest. It twists in midair and you draw another arrow a moment before it crashes down, clipping you and knocking you onto the snow. You both slide across the ice, kicking and snarling. One of its hooves catches you across the face, laying open the side of your head from ear to chin. You can't bring your bow around, but you're still holding an arrow, and you drive it into the monster's flank three times as you slide. When you skid to a halt, you climb onto the thrashing horse-thing and drive the arrow into it, again and again, until the arrowhead snaps off and the monster stops fighting.
