Chapter 1 - Reincarnation

[Birds chirping]

..

..

Whoa, what a sunny morning it is. (Wiping my face) Wait, where am I? Did I get so drunk I didn't make it back to my bed last night? What's with these clothes? My mom's gonna beat me if she sees me like this.

"Kenji, wake up or I'll come and drag you out of bed myself!" A loud voice echoes from another room, followed by the heavy stomping of feet heading toward mine.

What in the world...? Did I swap rooms with someone last night? A mysterious thought crosses my mind. Then the door suddenly bursts open with a loud thud.

"How many times do I have to call you, you bastard?!" I stare in surprise at the large woman standing in front of my bed, her eyes wide.

She continues, "You bastard, why are you looking at me like you've seen a demon? I'm your mother! Get out of that bed before I slap you!"

Who am I? Is this a dream or what? I ask myself silently. Then I reply to her, "Okay, okay… I'll get up, but I need to use the bathroom first."

"Bathroom? Eh?? Have you forgotten that we don't have a bathroom? Go wash yourself in the lake!"

I slowly walk outside the house, and the world around me stuns me like I'm still dreaming.

"What is this place? Where am I? I've never seen such a beautiful view before," I whisper to myself.

I begin searching for a path to the lake, but then the woman—who claims to be my mother—yells in a loud voice, "Where do you think you're going?! That's not the way to the lake!"

I ignore her and keep heading in the direction I think is right.

And then… yes. What a beautiful scene. The lake, the trees, and that one tree blooming with the most stunning blossoms I've ever seen. But when I look at my reflection in the water, I freeze.

What happened to my face? When did I get this scar?

This morning feels more like a nightmare, even in the bright daylight. I head back to the house where I woke up. The woman calls out again, "Come have your breakfast."

I walk toward her. The moment I see the food, my stomach growls loudly—I've never seen such delicious-looking dishes in my life. While I'm eating, she says, "You still have to carry that log you didn't bring in yesterday."

A log? This nightmare just keeps going. Last night I was at a party… that's the last thing I remember.

How the hell did I end up in this world?

It seems I'm in someone else's body… someone named Kenji.

Now I've got to figure out what this world is—and who I really am.
