Chapter 62: System Update Complete
SCHLACK!
A blinding streak of icy blue light arced through the tall jungle air—sharp as vengeance, swift as judgment. It carved cleanly through the thick neck of a snarling beast.
Thud.
The creature's severed head hit the ground with a dull thump, its body crumpling soon after. Blood gushed in pulsing waves from the open wound, soaking the foliage beneath in deep crimson. Its fur was golden-yellow, splashed with irregular violet blotches across its flank. Two short, spiral-shaped horns jutted from its feline-like head, and its expression was frozen in eternal surprise.
From the tall blades of grass and forest bushes, the faint rustling of footsteps stirred the silence.
Leaves parted. Through the thicket emerged a white-haired figure.
Glacia.
Her hair cascaded like moonlight behind her, flowing with grace. In her right hand gleamed her crystalline Ice Sword, its edge dripping with residual frost. Her blue eyes were sharp, cold, unreadable—her gait deliberate and elegant as she stepped toward the fallen beast.
Not far behind, the rest of the Elemental Vanguard emerged in a staggered line, spreading out as they entered the clearing.
But one shot forward in a blur.
Whooosh!
A gust of wind blasted past the group, stopping abruptly in front of Glacia.
> "Aeolus," Glacia said flatly, not even lifting an eyebrow. "What do you want?"
> "You stole my kill!" Aeolus barked, eyes flaring with indignation, his long silver hair flaring as if wind were always at his back.
Glacia merely shrugged, lips curling with indifference.
> "Blame yourself. You weren't fast enough."
> "How dare you?" Aeolus growled, jabbing a finger toward her. "You dare compare speed with me? I'm the fastest there is!"
> "You say that, but you were too slow."
> "Hmph! I was busy, okay?!"
A deep, simmering voice cut through their quarrel.
> "A warrior should know when to accept defeat," Ignis declared, floating inches of the ground with crossed arms, his fiery form radiating gentle heat like burning coals.
> "But I really was busy!" Aeolus groaned dramatically.
...
...
...
The silence thickened—awkward, yet oddly familiar.
Finally, Aquari stepped forward, brushing strands of aqua hair behind her ear.
> "What kind of beast did you slay, Glacia?" she asked, eyes glittering with curiosity like reflected ocean light.
Even Granite, the towering giant with obsidian skin and musclar physique, took a step forward, arms crossed. He didn't speak, but the tilt of his head spoke volumes—he was also waiting for the answer.
Glacia glanced at the beast, then back at the others. She shook her head slightly.
> "No idea."
> "I'll check." A voice broke in from the side.
Lei Feng, who had been silently observing with a calm smile, walked forward. With a single glance at the corpse, he said:
> "It's a Purple-Horned Serval. Level 20. Though... it's not a mature one. Adults usually cap at Level 25."
> "Hmph. Just Level 20?" Ignis snorted. "Barely worth calling a kill."
> "Still a kill," Glacia replied, her voice tinged with pride. "That makes it five for me today." She raised one gloved hand, spreading her fingers proudly.
> "Don't get cocky," Ignis grumbled. "I've got four. You're only ahead because you snatched that kill."
Suddenly, a breeze whooshed behind them.
> "Hahahaha! You're both amateurs," Aeolus laughed, wind swirling at his feet. "I've got ten. That's more than both of you combined."
...
...
Both Glacia and Ignis clenched their jaws but said nothing. As much as it irritated them, they couldn't deny Aeolus' speed and combat awareness made him a monster in single-target takedowns.
> "C'mon, guys." Aquari giggled. "Don't take it too seriously. It's just a friendly competition. Look at me—I've only got three, and Granite has one. But he's not complaining."
All eyes turned to Granite.
The giant scratched the back of his head with a sheepish smile.
> "Granite also loves competition… It's just… you're all too fast."
Though the strongest in terms of raw power and defense, Granite's speed made him the least suited for this kind of contest.
Lei Feng folded his arms and smiled warmly as he watched his summons bicker and bond. Their personalities had bloomed so vividly since their awakening—each of them showing more depth than just elemental avatars.
After their last brutal clash with the Dragon Wolf pack, they'd mostly encountered scattered beasts in the forest. Packs were rare now—making the days quieter, a bit mundane.
So, at Aeolus' urging, they'd started this informal kill race.
Lei Feng, of course, was excluded—they'd unanimously agreed he was too overpowered, especially after annihilating the Alpha Dragon Wolves.
Lei glanced at his phone screen. The time read just past 11:50 AM.
> "It's been seven days…" he muttered under his breath. "I promised Mei I'd return… I need to keep my word."
Just then—
DING!
A clear, metallic chime rang in Lei Feng's mind—like the distant toll of an ancient bell.
> [System Update Complete!]
His heart surged.
> "System!" he gasped, a wave of relief flooding him like cool rain after a long drought.
For three days, he had been without it. The absence had gnawed at him—a silent dread, like a father awaiting news from a laboring wife.
> "Master?" the Elemental Vanguard said in unison, brows rising.
Thanks to their Empathy Link, they instantly sensed the surge of emotion from him.
> "Ah—nothing," Lei Feng cleared his throat. "Just… happy. My System's back."
> "System?" Granite asked, brow raised. The rest leaned in, heads tilted with barely disguised curiosity.
> "Well…" Lei Feng gave a sheepish smile. "You're all bonded to me anyway, so no harm in telling you. It's a mystical interface—only I can see it. Helps me analyze progress, level up faster, unlock multiple classes… and more."
> "WHAT?!" the five elementals cried out.
> "That's insane!" Glacia snapped.
> "But it's true," Lei Feng said with a shrug.
Granite blinked, looking half turned to stone from shock.
Aquari was the first to recover.
> "He's not lying… We can feel it. His joy… his certainty."
> "I didn't want to believe it…" Ignis sighed, arms crossed. "But yeah. It explains so much."
> "Boss," Aeolus laughed, "I knew you were special, but damn—you're System-chosen special."
Lei Feng chuckled, then turned his gaze inward.
> "System, show me the interface."
A glowing translucent panel unfolded before him like a divine scroll descending from the heavens.

Lei's eyes lit up.
> "I can access it directly now… Before, I could only use it with the System's help. This is huge."
He scanned each menu with anticipation.
Then his eyes landed on it.
[Shop]
His heart skipped.
> "I can finally buy stuff using the system shop?! Let's go!" he cheered.
The Elemental Vanguard blinked in confusion, watching their master grin at empty air like a child on their birthday.
> "System," He said with a smile, "Explain System Shop."
DING!
A glowing screen popped up:
> [SystemShop: An exclusive interface where the Host can exchange System Points (SP) for potions, pills, weapons, skills, accessories, and more. Items scale with the Host's current level and class compatibility.]
Lei Feng's hands trembled in excitement.
> "This is… better than I imagined!"
He tapped the option.
ZRRN!
The interface shimmered.

━━『 Shop 』━━━

He nodded.
> "Potions? Got plenty. Pills? Not now. Weapons? Stormpiercer and the Nameless Sword are perfect for now. Armor? Storm Dragon Robe holds up fine. Skills? I'm barely keeping up mastering them. Accessories... hmm."
He tapped Accessories.
ZHHNN!
The screen warped—and a new message pulsed on screen in glowing red text:
> [Access Denied: Host must possess a minimum of 1,000 System Points to browse the Accessories Shop.]
Lei Feng's smile froze.
> "What?"
> "System... explain System Points," he said slowly.
---
> [System Points (SP): A unique currency accumulated through significant achievements, quest completions, monster kills, and rare discoveries. SP is used to unlock exclusive Shop content and higher-tier system features.]
---
Lei Feng sighed.
> "So much for the new toy."
Still, he wasn't disappointed for long.
> "Let's check my status panel."
TAP.
The display shifted.

The disappointment melted away, replaced by raw excitement.
His gaze shifted again—this time to two unfamiliar values.
SP… he understood.
But OP?
His brows furrowed as he stared at the glowing letters.
OP.
They shimmered, glowing faintly… then brighter… as if responding to his attention.
Time seemed to slow, the world fading into silence.
Lei Feng narrowed his eyes.
> "System," he murmured, heart beginning to pound.
"…What exactly… is an OP?"
