Chapter 4 - 4

Money, Desire, City 4Money, Desire, City 4Gu Ci kept smiling as he watched the man in front of him slowly take his head out of the sling from the door frame, then calmly wiped off the blood and slowly walked to the recliner inside, looking at him and nodding in appreciation.

"There are very few girls as brave as you."

Gu Ci chuckled, not knowing whether it was a real laugh or a fake one. She stood there looking at the boss without answering him, "Boss, do you have any good things to recommend?"

"Okay, you don't look like someone who is short of money and refuses to pay, but girls should know that it is a taboo to enter a store without buying anything. Other stores are okay, but my store has always been known as a black-hearted store. You have to be mentally prepared. If you leave now, I will take your finger, but if you can't afford my things, you have to leave me your whole hand!"

It is hard to tell how old the boss is. His figure is that of a hunchbacked old man, but his face is that of a middle-aged man. His voice is a little shrill, but his hands are as tender as those of a young girl.

Gu Ci finally became interested. She looked at the boss with a fierce face and asked a question, "But, I don't like any of your things?"

"How could anyone despise my stuff? My stuff is life-saving stuff, commonly known as... priceless! What do you know, little brat?"

The boss widened his eyes slightly and argued unconvincedly, but it was because of his action that his eye sockets cracked slightly, and he quickly pressed the corners of his eyes with some impatience.

Gu Ci asked the same question again.

The boss looked unhappy. He looked at Gu Ci coldly with a dark complexion. "Boy, are you here to cause trouble?"

Gu Ci smiled at him without answering.

She wanted to come and see what was different about this different store.

The boss's neck became sore after staring at each other for such a long time. Seeing that Gu Ci was steady, he relaxed and lay back down. However, because he had stared at Gu Ci for too long and didn't close his eyes, his eyes jumped and rolled to Gu Ci's feet.

Gu Ci picked up the eyeball and handed it to the boss. The boss curled his lips, took his eye, stuffed it back in with force and talked to Gu Ci.

"I'm selling serious life-saving products here, so few people would look down on them. Of course, it's normal for them to look down on them, unless you can find some faults or flaws. Of course, I'm the same."

The boss slowly got up from behind a shelf, took out a kerosene lamp made of an ink bottle, lit it, and searched inside.

"Girl, this is an old store that never cheats anyone. Many good things are hard to find. Hey! I found it!"

The boss almost buried his whole body in the goods that looked like a garbage dump, and was pushing and pulling them. Gu Ci didn't say anything and didn't respond. The boss seemed to be talking to himself and seemed very interested.

The boss rummaged through the pile of garbage, no, the goods, before taking out a wooden box. He checked it under the kerosene lamp, blew away the ashes on the box, and then proudly showed it to Gu Ci.

"This is an old item. It won't be put on the table unless you have 200 or 300 million!"

The boss raised his chin proudly and looked at Gu Ci as if to say: Look, the good stuff is here, it just depends on whether you can afford it.

The box was carved with fine flowers and plants, and the branches and leaves, the dew on the petals, and the tiny thorns on the branches and leaves were all carved out. It really looked like the old item the boss said.

It is indeed valuable.

Hundreds of millions! Zimbabwe Dollar!

Gu Ci now seriously suspects that there is inflation here!

The boss didn't care about Gu Ci's expression. He held the box and opened it carefully as if he was presenting a treasure. "What's in here is talisman paper. This is not ordinary talisman paper. This is Wang Wei's poem... No, this is talisman paper drawn by a Taoist master. Except for humans, anything else that touches it will be burned by the talisman paper..."

The boss was extremely, extremely, extremely careful when picking up a piece of talisman paper with flying dragons and phoenixes in it and handed it to Gu Ci in order to open her eyes. However, she never expected that the talisman paper turned into black ash when Gu Ci's fingertips touched it.

The boss was so shocked by Gu Ci's action that he couldn't close his mouth before he could finish his words.

"Bumping into someone?"

Gu Ci frowned, looked at his fingertips, then looked at the handful of dust on the boss's palm, and lowered his voice, but rubbed his dusty fingertips on the boss's body without making a sound.

"This shouldn't be possible. This is unscientific!"

The boss also frowned. "Could it be that it has been stored for so long that it has exceeded its expiration date? But does this kind of thing have an expiration date?"

The boss was puzzled and scratched his head. He pulled off a large piece of hair and squeezed the box onto the glass counter which was full of things. "Wait, I'll find a few more!"

Gu Ci glanced at the time and it was still early before eight o'clock. She adjusted her mask and watched the boss looking around while mumbling something.

Finally, the boss shouted at Gu Ci who was slightly sleepy, and Gu Ci came back to his senses and looked at the boss, expecting what good things he could come up with.

"Come and take a look at this good stuff. This is my real good stuff. Others who want to buy it don't have the courage to come in and chat with an old man like me. You are a brave girl. I, an old man, will let you open your eyes when I am in a good mood." The boss found a square box among the miscellaneous items in a ruin. He blew on the box to blow away the dust on it, and then carefully wiped the surface of the box with his sleeve, with nostalgia and sigh on his face.

Gu Ci's eyes fell on the box and he seemed to be hesitant to speak.

This style looks so much like a low-key and restrained urn!

Perhaps knowing what Gu Ci was thinking, the boss looked at Gu Ci with a smile and said, "Yes, this is an urn, but the contents inside are not ordinary ashes."

As for what kind of ashes it was, the boss didn't say. He looked at Gu Ci with a slit in his eyes, and said, "Just a little bit of it can make you walk sideways here, but this thing is not only expensive but also has serious side effects. In the past, people who came to my place and bought this have all walked out of the City of Money and Desire safely!"

"So, this is the story of how they died here after leaving the City of Money and Desire, and your ashes were recycled?"

Gu Ci looked at the urn that the boss held tightly and refused to let go with a little lack of interest. "In the beginning, it was your ashes! But one person's ashes are too few, and the prices in the money desire are too high. If you want to survive, you can only rely on these sky-high priced ashes as a gimmick. Although the method you said is indeed very effective here, as long as the person who buys the ashes does not leave the city of desire, it is indeed safe, but you didn't say what will happen here. People who want to go out will have channels to know that you have some strange things here that can save their lives, but these people will definitely die as long as they want to go out. This forms a cycle, doesn't it?"

Gu Ci shook his head and looked at the boss's no longer smiling mouth and increasingly dark blue face with corpse spots. He smiled honestly, "However, I don't think all the things you sell here are to my liking."

The boss put the urn heavily aside, making a loud noise. The other slightly higher shelves were shaken and a lot of ashes fell off. The boss stretched his neck and approached Gu Ci with a smelly tone, saying viciously, "No one can walk out of here intact. It's against the rules to want to leave without buying anything!"

Gu Ci smiled gently. She stretched out a finger to turn the boss's face away and pointed at something. "I didn't say I didn't buy it. This is what I like!"
