After the Japan Prize ceremony, Daichi Ren sat alone in a restaurant, elegant, but not extravagant. Dim lights washed over matte wood tables, soft jazz hummed in the background. Waiters moved like whispers. His untouched tea mirrored the ceiling's slow moving waiters, while the city's glow barely reached through the frosted glass. He just see his cake and barely thinking of how hard his research back then. Then suddenly came his friend named Zhang Wei. He's the winner of Akutagawa Prize a literary prize.
"Haha gratz, Daichi!' To be honest that's such crazy idea to spend all of your money on a research about "The Piece". "But, look at you now, you've got the Japan Prize haha, that would be hilarious if you fail at this and be broke on the street".
"That's no such a waste in this world Zhang, even the smallest thing in this world, 'the thing' were gathered into 'the piece' and the piece were gathered again into 'the thing'. Did you scrutinize my presentation in the other day huh?"
"Nah, your presentation is shit buddy, i just neglect your presentation with my beautiful dream". Zhang's fell guilty but. His mind shout him to ask Daichi for his explanation. "By the way, what's the piece you mention earlier? is it like a piece of glass or something."
"Yeah i know not all literature were as shit-head as you, you need to pay respect sometime dude".
'Hmm how could i explain my theory to this shit head huh'. 'Maybe i could use this cake, alright'
Suddenly there's a big earthquake that split the land. "Srrrkak, booom". Shockingly, there's not just earthquake.
"What the fuck". "Kyaaa". "Shit brooooo i didn't even marry my crush, how could this calamity happen before that?". "There's aaa... dragon! huh!!!".
Zhang that heard those all panicked scream, also got panicked.
"Daichi, come here.. RUN!!!." But Daichi couldn't move, he's stuck. Stuck in his mind 'Fuck, is this where this Earth being the piece now??. The piece of the universe??' Daichi that stuck in his mind right now cant sense anything, that's his behavior since kid. Maybe the prize of being a genius with all crazy thing like savant syndrom, photographic memory, etc. There's a big debris from the restaurant fall into him.
"AHHHHHHH" Zhang push Daichi till Daichi bump the wall and get again his sense.
"Zhang! Zhang! What the fuck happened". "Why there's a blood".
The debris is big enough to crush half of the restaurant. And unluckily half of Zhang's body is crusheeeeeeeeeeeed.
"Run dude, run". "Maybe with your brilliant brain.. you could save our world, don't cry lol, i am just a piece of 'The Thing' right?!"
"But you!"
"Don't mind about me". "I could feel my body.. get cold, If you seek revenge for my death... just save the fucking world, RUN!!"
Then, after Zhang's final shout, Daichi ran, fleeing the collapsing restaurant. Where to? He didn't know. Survival was all that mattered. But one thing burned in his mind: he would avenge his friend, no matter who was responsible.
