Chapter 7 - The class

"Yes, I have two multiplicators. 2.5 for reaching a class and 2 for overtraining!"

Yuki nodded satisfied. "That's why I was pushing you so hard. When you receive your class after training hard enough on maxed stats you get your stats doubled. And this is multiplicative with the 2.5 multiplier you normally get. This means that both your stamina and mana will be multiplied by five once you pick out your class."

After this explanation she quickly continued.

"How about your classes? And affinities?"

I sighed and continued searching in the notifications, Shortly I came across answer to another one of her questions.

"I received two affinities. Light and Darkness."

Both girls smiled at me even more and this time it was Rina that spoke first.

"Congratulations! You have two rare affinities, that's unheard off!"

Yuki nodded and spoke. "Yeah, having two rare affinities is very good. Congrats! Now hurry up and tell me. What classes can you chose from?"

I chuckled at her impatience as I kept on scrolling through my notifications.

"I have it! I have four options mystic knight, paladin, dark knight and knight of balance!"

Yuki nodded enthusiastically, as she spoke.

"Very good! Mystic knight is close combat specialist that focuses on infusions. Paladin and dark knight are classes related to your affinities. Paladin focuses on light damage, buffs and healing. Dark knight on the other hand focuses on dark damage, debuffs and curses. Your last option Knight of balance is the rarest one of them all. Honestly, I never met anyone actually using the class since it requires two rare affinities. Those being exactly light and darkness. From what I remember from books it should be knight that utilizes skills that are both light and dark at the same time. Sorry, that's all I can tell you about it."

I tried my hardest not to smile. Knight of balance was one of the strongest classes available in the game, it had it all, it could tank, deals copious amounts of light and dark damage at once, it could heal, buff, debuff. It could do neither of those things as good as dedicated classes but it could do them well enough and all at the same time. The only thing that balanced it in game was that one needed both light and dark affinities and none of the special characters had them, if you wanted to play with a knight of balance you had to use a mercenary character.

Mercenaries were hired generic characters without dialog or backstory. They had lower stats then special characters and none of them ever received a unique skill. Despite that running a knight of balance in your party was meta. In fact, the most meta late game party ran Yuki, Knight of balance mercenary, main character because you had to include him and one of the pure damage dealing special characters.

Many people even played with mods that allowed them to bench main character in combat and ran knight of balance, Yuki and two pure damage characters. One physical one pure caster. Or even a mod that made your main character into a knight of balance. Which in turn once again allowed you to run the same setup.

Main character was not considered pure damage character due to the fact that his unique skill was not very combat oriented. It was called 'the all-seeing eye'. What it did was that he was able to see status of everybody and everything he came across, with details based on the level difference.

It was in game explanation for stuff like boss health bars or the simple facts like that you could see status of your party members in menu and so on. Pretty much all the game info you got was chucked up to his unique skill. They even used it to trigger a lot of story beads with cutscenes from nowhere where your main character started talking to the rest of the party explaining what he can see. But despite the fact that it was very handy out of combat in combat it was pretty much useless.

I smiled and without any further delay spoke.

"I chose the Knight of balance!"

I was very happy with my status. Mostly with the skill I received, Aura of balance. It was the selling point of the class, once activated it increased speed, defense and all damage dealt for all friendly characters while increasing their stamina and mana regen and periodically healing them. And while doing all this for friendly characters it did the exact opposite for enemies. It lowered their speed, defense and all damage they did, while applying a degeneration effect to their stamina and mana and even periodically damaging them. It had a periodic cost that was deducted from your mana every few seconds but the boost in mana regeneration you received from it more than made up for it. The skill was crazy.

Seeing all this I asked Yuki and Rina to check out my status. Both quickly used Yuki's inspection tool and froze for a moment in surprise seeing the skill I received. Yuki was first one to react.

"I didn't know that skill like that existed. It's crazy strong!"

I smiled and hugged them both without properly realizing what am I doing and spoke in response.

"Yes, it is crazy! I will need to train with it so that I can keep it up with both infusions and still properly fence. But I think I can trust you with that!"

Yuki chuckled. "You sure can!" She then turned towards Rina and spoke. "Rina you should get back to training, you don't want to lag behind and stay without a class! Do you?"

"R-right!" Spoke Rina and left. After that she went to quickly pick up her butterfly swords she dropped when she ran to me and soon after that she once again engaged a soldier in spar. Motivation written all over her face. After this Yuki looked on me and spoke.

"You should also go train! I need to adapt your training schedule a little!"

I nodded and went back to sparring. Adapting my training Yuki mentioned ended up being just addition of Aura of balance to the list of things I needed to keep up while training with a sword, but surprisingly despite the fact I was keeping up one more skill than before it got easier since I was receiving all the buffs from my aura of balance.

Also, there was a rather massive change in my infusion skills, until now they manifested like a light blue glow around me and my sword and were just adding generic damage and defense, but now that I unlocked my affinities it changed. Both of the infusions took after my affinities and gained affinity based bonuses.

They looked rather interesting, both me and my sword were enveloped in white and black glows that were fighting each other for dominance, one moment I was almost fully enveloped in white glow but just a few moments later black started fighting back pushing back the white glow almost entirely, few moments after that white once again started pushing forward, gaining dominance. As for the functional changes, body infusion gained a percentage damage reduction from the light affinity and chance for the attacks to pass through me without harming me from dark affinity. Weapon infusion just converted the bonus damage it was giving me to the dark and light damage, the two least resisted damage types in the game.

Rather comical part of the training was when Yuki started moving Rina slowly further away from me so that she does not receive benefits from my aura. She didn't want to make her training easier.

Speaking of Rina, she received her class two days later. She also had her overtraining bonus so her stats got multiplied by five same as mine. She only had a single affinity, but it being a dark affinity it was still a huge success. Lastly her class options were totally different from mine. While I had four knightly classes, that tend to be oriented toward front line with healthy dose of staying power. Rina received four pure damage dealing melee classes, with very little to none staying power but huge damage output. She ended up picking out the shadowalker class at the end. Mostly melee damage class with a splash of dark magic, to be more specific shadow magic what is a subgroup of dark magic.

This completed another stage of our training. Now the closest milestone would come at level five when the unique skills unlocks if you have one. There was also my fifteenth birthday coming up together with the traditional coming of age party associated with it. I was getting worried because Sebastian said that my father already started preparing a huge coming of age party for me back in our mansion in capitol and that he was going to attend. This will be first time since I came to this world that I will have to face my father and not just him, a whole lot of other nobles that knew the original Victor.

There was one more change on the horizon, Yuki let us know that this coming month she will focus on getting us familiar with our new skills and after the party we will go and register as adventurers so that we get some practical experience with real combat.
