Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: The Eye of the Abyss

Since the "Midnight Bus" incident, the investigation into the "Abyss" organization by the city police had reached a boiling point.

Su Wanqing's analysis report was submitted early in the morning. Lu Chenzhou had not slept all night, flipping through a thick stack of files in his office. He knew that the game of the "Abyss" organization had quietly moved to the next stage. It was no longer just a simple probe from the periphery. They were getting closer to the core—a dark eye that had been hiding for years.

At 6 a.m., the intelligence department reported the latest development: a long-time infiltrator from the "Abyss" organization, code-named "Crow," had been spotted in the old factory district in the West District, meeting with an unidentified man.

Lu Chenzhou immediately ordered an operation, personally leading the team. Su Wanqing insisted on going along, knowing that this time, the information behind "Crow" might be the only key to unlocking the core of "Abyss."

As they arrived at the outskirts of the factory district, dawn was breaking. The dilapidated buildings and vine-covered walls gave the place an eerie, cold atmosphere. The police set up a perimeter, and Lu Chenzhou led Su Wanqing through a broken window on the east side, entering the factory quietly.

They moved toward the second floor of an abandoned workshop. Through the shattered window, they saw "Crow" talking to a man wearing mechanical glasses.

"The 'Eye of the Abyss' plan is about to begin. A-13 point deployment is complete. You must ensure the password chip is delivered safely to the 'Instructor.'"

"Crow" took a small metal box and whispered, "Don't worry, I'll deliver it personally."

At this moment, Su Wanqing frowned and whispered, "The device behind him... it looks like a remote detonator."

Lu Chenzhou nodded slightly and quietly raised his gun. "I'll count to three. We move in."

"Three... two... one!"

"Bang!"

The two of them broke through the window almost simultaneously, and a bullet flew out, hitting the man with the mechanical glasses in the shoulder. He fell to the ground, rolling, while "Crow" quickly jumped down the stairs, attempting to escape.

"Chase him!" Lu Chenzhou sprinted out, while Su Wanqing dashed toward the suspicious device, using a special jammer to block the signal.

Outside the factory, "Crow" ran into an alley, but immediately triggered a trap—the iron gate fell abruptly, blocking the exit. Lu Chenzhou rushed to the scene, only to find himself trapped on the other side.

"Team Leader Lu, there's a trap here!" came the voice of the tech team through the earpiece. "There are multiple remote detonation devices inside the factory. We need to evacuate immediately!"

Meanwhile, Su Wanqing, using a portable terminal, discovered that the building's structural map had been pre-loaded with interference data. Almost every exit could potentially be a trap.

"They've been waiting for us..." she muttered, quickly pulling up a map of the explosives distribution. Her brow furrowed tightly. "But this trap is too sophisticated. It doesn't seem like 'Crow' could have done it on his own."

"That means it's the 'Instructor,'" Lu Chenzhou said, prying open the iron gate with a tool. "The 'Eye of the Abyss' plan must be linked to him."

During their escape, the two discovered a hidden room in the stairwell. Inside, they found a metal plate engraved with strange symbols and several photos and files of victims—among them were a political advisor, an arms dealer, and high-ranking financial figures who had been murdered months earlier.

Su Wanqing whispered, "This is a target list... 'Abyss' isn't creating chaos; they're eliminating people who stand in the way of their order."

"More like paving the way for a 'new order,'" Lu Chenzhou added.

Before leaving, Su Wanqing extracted a sample of the chip from the metal box and calmly analyzed it. "This is an asymmetric encryption structure, containing a biometric code. I suspect that the 'Instructor' himself is the encryption key."

One hour later, explosions rang out across the factory's perimeter, with multiple detonators going off simultaneously. Fortunately, the police had evacuated in advance, so there were no casualties.

However, in the chaos, "Crow" bit his tongue and committed suicide. The last words on his lips were, "You've seen things you shouldn't have."

Back at the police station, Su Wanqing spent the night decoding the chip. Deep within it, she found a video file—a man dressed in a black robe, his face obscured, but his tone cold and menacing.

"True order is never achieved through compromise, but through cleansing. The 'Eye of the Abyss' is just the beginning. I hope you're still able to stop it when you open your eyes."

Su Wanqing sat silently in front of the screen for a long time.

Lu Chenzhou walked over and quietly said, "We're getting closer. Closer to the person who has been hiding in the darkness for too long."

She nodded, her eyes filled with resolve. "Then let's pull him out of the darkness, even if it costs everything."

The camera lingered on the image of the chip, faintly glowing, resembling an eye—cold, silent, yet watching the world.
