Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 – Edna Breaks

The mirror dungeon was cold.

Not because of the temperature.

But because everything inside it was too perfect. Too still. Too fake.

Edna stood alone in front of the mirror. It wasn't showing her face.

No.

It was showing another Edna.

This Edna was older. Her eyes were hard. Her body covered in soot. Fire danced on her fingertips.

She looked angry.

And then—

The mirror Edna reached out and grabbed someone.

Harvie.

He was burned alive.

Screaming.

Edna gasped and fell backward. "No, no, no... I would never...!"

But the mirror didn't care. It kept playing the same scene again. And again.

Each time, the sound of Harvie's screams became louder.

Her hands shook.

"Stop it!" she shouted, voice cracking.

Her fire magic burst out—but the mirror didn't break.

She fell to her knees, covering her ears. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

The dungeon was starting to twist around her. Walls became warped. The air felt heavy.

"Edna!!"

Harvie's voice.

Real this time.

She looked up. Harvie was running to her, breathing hard, bleeding from his shoulder where another version of himself had cut him.

He knelt beside her, grabbed her face gently.

"It's not real," he said. His voice was calm, even if his eyes were scared.

"But it was me," Edna whispered. "In another world... I killed you."

"And in another world, I let you die," Harvie replied. He smiled weakly.

"We all have shadows in the mirror. But I'm choosing you—this version of you. Again and again."

Her lip trembled.

"You're crazy," she said softly.

"I know."

The dungeon rumbled around them.

Harvie helped her up. Their hands stayed linked longer than needed.

"I'm scared," she said. Her voice was small.

"Me too," he answered.

The mirror behind them cracked. A spiderweb of light ran across it.

They turned to face it.

"Let's break it together," Harvie said.

Edna nodded. Flames gathered around her hands. Harvie raised his sword.

Together, they smashed the mirror.

Light burst through the cracks.

The dungeon shivered—and then changed.

The path to the Third Seal opened ahead.

But even as they walked forward, Edna's hand still trembled in his. And Harvie knew—

Something had broken inside her today.

Maybe not something evil. But something important.

And as her head leaned lightly on his shoulder, Harvie didn't pull away.

He whispered just loud enough for her to hear:

"I'll never let that version of you win. Not while I'm still me."

She didn't answer. But she didn't let go either.

Their steps echoed into the next chamber.

Behind them, the broken mirror wept.
