Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Truth Behind the Cheat

Day 47:Well, it's official now—my cheat is a scam. After all this time, grinding for hours every day, I've come to a grim realization. One day in the game is equal to a whole year, and I've been giving them all sorts of things—potatoes, berries, crossbows, anything I can think of to keep their faith in me alive. Every two years, I'd give them something, but no matter how much I've played, I haven't even used a single faith point yet.

Over 1000 faith points now, and... nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm starting to believe that my cheat isn't really a cheat at all. It's the Lumen Core or whatever it's called. The only thing that's been working for me is this darn pearl that absorbs energy under the moonlight. It recovers about 1/10 of its energy, depending on the phase of the moon. But... that's it. That's all I've got.

I've begun improving my living conditions though. My cave doesn't feel as cramped and dirty as it used to. I've made some basic furniture, made my bed more comfortable, and even set up a small cooking station. The more I live here, the more I'm starting to feel like this could be a real home. Still, my mind wanders constantly, and I keep experimenting with my abilities—waiting for the Lumen Core to recharge, so I can transform again.

Day 45:So, something interesting happened a couple of days ago. I was out exploring the southwestern part of the forest when I encountered a tiger. Yeah, a tiger. I'm not even kidding. You're probably asking me how I know the direction I was heading. Well, I bought a compass before the transmigration. I've been using it to get a sense of direction, even though I have no idea if it's accurate in this world. But who cares? It works for now.

Anyway, back to the tiger. When I saw it, I froze. Honestly, I almost sh*t my pants right there and then. It was big—huge—and it started to charge at me. My heart raced, and I nearly turned and ran, but something stopped me. I realized it wasn't attacking me, not immediately. Instead, it stopped when it saw me in bear form. Yeah, turns out my bear transformation saved my life. It roared to the side and trotted off. I was in complete shock. I couldn't believe it. My luck was too good that day.

Thank God I had been playing around with my abilities. Asking me to fight a tiger? Not in this lifetime. No way. That thing would have torn me apart.

After that encounter, I decided not to explore the southwestern region anymore. I don't want to run into that tiger again. The thing that's bothering me now is that I know humans tend to head south. Maybe there's a settlement down there. I don't know for sure, but it's a hunch. I don't want to risk it just yet.

Day 50:Another few days have passed. I decided to explore the northern side of the forest today. It's where I found that giant maple tree a while ago. As I ventured deeper into the area, I saw something that caught my eye—a vehicle. I wasn't sure what to do, but I decided to observe from a distance. I pulled out my binoculars and watched as a man in a monocle stepped out of the vehicle. He was talking to his subordinates, though I couldn't hear them from here.

Who were these people? And why were they so far out here? I didn't want to risk being spotted, so I retreated, sticking to the eastern part of the forest, where I've made my base. There's no need to get involved with these people just yet.

Day 54:Today was... well, terrifying. While I was near a stream, I saw the vehicle from earlier stop nearby. Then, I heard gunshots. A few of them. I immediately panicked. My heart skipped a beat, and I knew I had to get back to the cave as fast as I could. I ran like I've never run before. Thankfully, I made it back to the safety of my cave without being seen.

I decided something after that—I'm not going to venture far from my base for a while. I spent the next few days holed up in my cave, playing with the Lumen Core, waiting for the moon to charge it again. I also decided to keep the gun I had looted from the bear cave close by. You can never be too careful in this world.

I'm starting to think I should stay low, avoid any more encounters with these strange people. I don't know what they're doing out here, but I'm sure it's nothing good. For now, I'll focus on getting stronger, improving my abilities, and finding a way to leave this wild, lonely existence behind.
