Love and Danger
I was taken over by a tide of ungovernable emotion as soon as Tybalt's carry crossed the one between mine. Somehow, I had never felt this way toward a person, and it scared me. But staring into Tybalt's eyes, I knew I couldn't deny my feelings anymore.
If anything, I think Tybalt sensed how I was feeling and brushed away some hair behind my ear. His touch pricked me and my heart began to beat faster.
"I guess I should worry too much," he said. "But, that has no significance though," he added, his voice deep.
Then time stood still, as my heart nearly burst from my chest at such a statement. And so I felt too, but terrifyingly, it might come out of my mouth.
Before Tybalt should say anything further, an ear-splitting bang seemed to reverberate through the entire den. A very alarmed noise turned my head at the source.
Now it was seriousness that punctuated Tybalt's features as he hurriedly put on his clothes. "Stay here!" he commanded. "I need to check it out."
But my heart was already racing, pounding against my ribs, as I got out of bed. I was determined to follow Tybalt out of the room, but my blood ran cold at the sight.
There, in the hallway, was Victoria, almost radiant with fury. "Tybalt, I pity you," she said, spitting on the bare ground. "And I will make you suffer for what you have done."
With uncanny speed, Tybalt placed himself solidly between me and Victoria, the brimming anger in his eyes. "You won't hurt her," he breathed, low and threatening.
Everything in my body froze from fear, but consolation surged through me with Tybalt's presence. Nothing could change that: He would always protect me.
But, just as I regarded Victoria, something very solemn weighed my heart. Behind her stood a group of armed men, glaring spitefully at Tybalt.
"Run," Tybalt hissed in caution, eyes focused ahead.
But it was too late. The men passed by, and I was caught in the crossfire, seared immediately by pains in my side, as all went black.
"Tybalt..." My voice could barely whisper.
Then the entire thing was engulfed in pure black.
I was thrust into the void by that excruciating pain through my side. I wanted to cry out for Tybalt, though it was barely a whisper. I could feel them shifting me-feet, the rustle of clothes.
The pain in my side was pushing me into the depths of oblivion. In the meantime, they were arranging me for what could only be called a makeshift bed. I could hear one voice-flustered, no doubt-as it hovered above me: Tybalt.
"Sonia, do you hear me?" His tone was trembling.
The pressure brought me another wave of pain in my side; Tybalt's face would then blur as I slipped away once more.
The next time I opened my eyes, Tybalt held my hand, staring down at me with such intensity. "You'll be okay," he assured me, very gently. "Nothing will happen to you."
I tried to smile, but my willpower was too weak to allow me. He was just so worried-looking, and I knew he was terribly scared.
Then I was pricked again: I was in a strange place surrounded by trees and darkness. Where in the world were we? I wondered how we even got here.
Tybalt must have realized my confusion, as he leaned toward me instantly. "Look, if not for Victoria's men hunting us, we would be totally safe in this place."
After that, I nodded, attempting to grasp everything. But when I looked at Tybalt again, I realized fear, and I knew something was cooking up against us. Tybalt's eyes became dim in my view, as he raised his hand and touched my face gently.
"I'll do whatever I can to ensure that you are safe," he told me, filled with determination.
I felt a surge of emotions and knew I would trust Tybalt with my life. But when I looked into his eyes, I saw something there that made my mind race a little. And just then, when life was about to change forever, I heard something very loud snap outside. Tybalt's head jerked up and a low sound came from deep inside of him.
"Get down," he said and pushed me to the floor. I listened as my heart raced.
What in the world was going on? And would we live to tell the tale? As Tybalt positioned himself between me and the door, I felt the fear sweep me away. What was going on? Who was outside?
Suddenly, the door was open, and a figure stood, standing at the entrance. Tybalt growled with his lips, with flashes of anger enlarging his eyes and pushing him to action.
However, when that odd figure moved closer, I recognized it was someone I hadn't anticipated. It was a member of Tybalt's group, with concern visible on his face.
"Tybalt, they're getting closer," he stated, his tone demanding immediate focus. "We need to leave this place immediately."
Tybalt nodded in agreement, as he kept open eyes around the surroundings. "Hey," he said, asking me to meet him, as he wrapped me in his embrace.
As we walked around, through the trees, I felt a sense of fate, nearly overwhelming me. I realized we were already ambushed, and I had no idea how much longer we could keep trying to escape.
Abruptly, Tybalt halted in place, his gaze locked on an object in front of him. I directed my attention to where he was looking, and my thoughts continued to race.
We found ourselves encircled. Victoria's forces had us trapped in an ambush, leaving us with no escape.
Tybalt embraced me tightly, and I felt secure as the 'man for me.' I was wrapped with warmth. "They had already set an ambush for both of us," he complained, his voice a bit unclear.
I knew that I was eternally bound to him, despite the danger that would still find us. I looked into his eyes faintly. Would our connection be sufficient to rescue us?
