Chapter 9 - Creating A Formation

Li Muwan tidied the hair beside her cheek and smiled. "I can help Senior Brother stabilize the formation, making it more powerful and even usable for attacks."

As a transmigrator, Lin Che naturally understood that Li Muwan was not only skilled in alchemy but also had profound knowledge of formations. The formations she arranged during the Foundation Establishment stage could even resist attacks from a strong cultivator at the Core Formation stage.

"Senior Brother, do you have any special beast bones? If so, they're very useful for creating formations. The stronger the monster was in life, the more powerful the energy it contributes."

Li Muwan placed her hands behind her back and smiled at Lin Che. "I've set up formations before, but I used formation flags. The formation you just arranged uses spirit stones. They may seem indestructible, but they can be broken by cultivators of the same realm."

Lin Che did have a few monsters with him—ones he had slain in the Land of the Ancient God. Each of them had power exceeding the Diety Transformation stage.

After a moment of thought, he waved his sleeve forward. Instantly, all the monster corpses he had stored in his storage ring appeared—ranging from wild beasts to extremely rare ancient beasts.

"This is the Thunder Frog… Senior Brother, you even have a beast like this!"

Li Muwan was clearly surprised as she examined the lifeless Thunder Frog. It had reached the rare ancient beast level, and its cultivation was comparable to a Soul Transformation cultivator.

Lin Che calmly responded, "I killed this wild beast when I left the Land of the Ancient God. But the Thunder Frog isn't the strongest. My previous mount was also an rare ancient beast—a Bloody Blue Dragon with extremely pure blood."

With a mere thought, a massive blue dragon, filled with bloodlust and evil aura, flew out of Lin Che's storage ring.

It was enormous—stretching a thousand meters in length—with a slender and agile body that twisted like a winding river.

Its entire body was covered in shimmering scales, each one resembling a finely polished gemstone. Under the moonlight, they reflected a blood-red hue.

The tightly arranged scales formed an indestructible armor. As the dragon moved, the scales rubbed together with a soft rustling, like the gentle clash of fine metal.

Li Muwan was stunned. This was her first time coming so close to a rare ancient beast-level Blue Dragon. The oppressive pressure it gave off wasn't much different from what she felt from her Senior Brother Lin Che himself.

With another thought from Lin Che, the massive blue dragon shrank to the size of a palm and landed steadily on the table, letting out a low growl toward the wild beast corpses on the ground.

"The bones of this Thunder Frog can be used for your formation. But your current cultivation is too shallow to control its energy. Let me help you create it."

Li Muwan happily nodded, then took out a dagger and a jade bottle from her storage ring. Standing in front of the Thunder Frog, she said, "Senior Brother, the inner core of a monster is extremely valuable—especially from a rare ancient beast. It's rare and powerful."

"This Thunder Frog contains thunder attribute energy. If you can absorb it, it will greatly benefit your future cultivation."

With practiced movements, she extracted the inner core and used a special method to draw out the thunder attribute energy, placing it into the jade bottle and handing it to Lin Che.

Lin Che only took the thunder attribute energy, as he had no use for the inner core. He gave it to Li Muwan for her alchemy.

Four years passed in a flash.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Lin Che and Li Muwan, the surrounding formations were nearly complete. Using the skeletons of the Thunder Frog and other sub-wild beast-level monsters, the formation was nearly indestructible.

Even a Soul Transformation realm cultivator could be trapped for months, and it could hold off peak-stage experts briefly.

For ordinary people, four years would be a long time—but for cultivators, it passed in the blink of an eye.

After all, there was an old saying passed down from ancient times:

A day in the mountains is a thousand years in the world.

Li Muwan wiped sweat from her forehead. Over the past two years, her cultivation had improved from early Foundation Establishment to mid-stage. Once she reached the late stage, she could take the Tianli Pill and aim for the Core Formation stage.

Lin Che, however, had not advanced. The spiritual energy in Zhao Country was scarce, and he had already broken through to the Soul Transformation stage. Reaching the mid-stage would take time.

"According to the original plot, there are only a few months left before the opening of the extraterritorial battlefield," Lin Che thought as he stood, hands behind his back, gazing at the serene mountains and rivers.

Since Teng Li died and won't appear, Wang Lin wouldn't be hunted down, and the massacre of Wang Jia Village wouldn't happen.

"Che'er."

At that moment, Master Huang Long, the head of Heng Yue Sect, flew over from not far away. With his clone's actual cultivation of Nirvana Shatterer, he was naturally able to pass through this formation that had been set up for four years safely.

Hearing the movement, Lin Che turned and bowed. "Disciple Lin Che greets Master."

Master Huang Long waved his hand, stroked his white goatee, and smiled. "There's no need for formalities. I didn't expect you to set up such a powerful formation over the past four years. You've really exceeded my expectations."

Lin Che smiled and asked, "May I ask what brings Master here today?"

"There are only a few months left before the extraterritorial battlefield opens. Recently, an envoy from the Tong Tian Tower sent out a message, summoning all Nascent Soul cultivators from Zhao Country."

"Lin Yi, the envoy from the Tower, has finished his seclusion. But he doesn't know you've returned. Our Heng Yue Sect currently has no other Nascent Soul cultivator, so you'll be representing us this time."

This was a rare opportunity for Heng Yue Sect to send participants to the extraterritorial battlefield, and the sect didn't want to miss it.

After all, treasures like magic weapons and rare elixirs often appeared on the battlefield—and anything recovered would belong to the sect.

Lin Che nodded and asked, "Who did Heng Yue Sect arranged to participate in the cleanup this of the extraterritorial battlefield this time?"

"Every time the extraterritorial battlefield is opened, we send Foundation Establishment disciples into Cassia Valley to compete for tokens. That year, when you broke through the Core Formation stage, you were listed as peak of the Foundation Establishment stage, so you were able to enter the extraterritorial battlefield, but we didn't expect a tragedy to happen."

Master Huang Long sighed and patted Lin Che's shoulder.

Fortunately, Lin Che had survived and returned stronger than before—otherwise, his plans would have had to change completely.

TL: My apologies if the naming of the ranks of Weapons or Beasts are incorrect. I've already somewhat forgotten its rankings. If some readers can enlighten me, please do so.

PS: I'm too lazy to reread the full novel of Renegade Immortal.

Since the fanfic author just puts "Wild Beasts" and didn't specify the other ranking categories, I just made some names like how I remembered it, "Rare, Ancient, Rare Ancient, etc."

And in top weapons, from Nascent Soul-stage weapon to Celestial Weapons (Pseudo, Low, Mid, and High).

Please enlighten me.
