Chapter 1 - Awakening

Pain. A dull, throbbing ache behind the eyes was the first thing Adam registered. It felt like the world's worst hangover, amplified tenfold. He groaned, trying to shift, but his limbs felt heavy, unresponsive. Where was he? The last thing he remembered was… coding? A late night, too much caffeine, the flickering screen of his monitor… then nothing.

He forced his eyes open, squinting against the dim light filtering through a grimy window. An unfamiliar ceiling stared back – cracked plaster, water stains blooming in the corners. This wasn't his apartment. Panic began to bubble beneath the pain. He sat up abruptly, the room swimming for a moment before settling.

It was small, sparsely furnished. A worn wooden dresser, a rickety chair, peeling wallpaper depicting faded floral patterns. It felt… old. Lived-in, but not by him. He swung his legs over the side of the narrow bed, his bare feet hitting cold, worn floorboards. He felt… shorter? Weaker?

Stumbling towards the dresser, he caught sight of the mirror hanging precariously above it. He froze.

Staring back wasn't his familiar face – mid-twenties, tired eyes, the beginnings of a stress-induced receding hairline. No, the reflection belonged to a teenager. Maybe sixteen? Lean build, dark brown hair falling messily over intense, calculating grey eyes that looked utterly alien in this young face. This body wasn't his.

Then came the second wave. Not pain this time, but memories. A flood of them, crashing into his consciousness with brutal force. Two lives colliding – his own, filled with mundane Earth, pop culture, late-night gaming, and an almost encyclopedic knowledge of a certain fictional universe… and another life. Adam Walker. Sixteen. Orphaned teenager living alone in this cramped Brooklyn apartment. Parents died recently – a car crash, sudden and tragic. School, bullies, scraping by…

MCU[1].

The acronym slammed into his mind with the force of a physical blow, overriding the grief and confusion of Adam Walker's memories. He wasn't just in a different body; he was in a different world. The world of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor… and Thanos. The Snap. Dust. Oblivion.

His breath hitched. The room suddenly felt colder, the peeling wallpaper like the skin of some decaying beast. He remembered the movies, the comics – the casual destruction, the god-like beings clashing, the sheer, terrifying scale of the threats. And the ending. Half of all life… gone. Erased.

"No. No, no, no," he whispered, backing away from the mirror, stumbling over his own unfamiliar feet. This couldn't be real. It had to be a nightmare, a hallucination brought on by that all-nighter. But the cold floor under his feet, the musty smell of the room, the phantom ache of Adam Walker's recent loss mingling with his own existential terror – it felt sickeningly real.

He wasn't just Adam anymore. He was Adam Walker, a nobody teenager in the most dangerous fictional universe ever conceived, a universe barreling towards cosmic genocide. He was collateral damage waiting to happen.

Just as pure, unadulterated panic threatened to consume him, a strange, cool sensation spread through his mind, pushing back the fear. It was accompanied by a soft, almost imperceptible chime.

[System Activated: Cognitive Stabilization Engaged]

[Transmigration Confirmed. Soul Synchronization at 98%]

[Welcome, Host. Initializing Aspect Integration System...]

Adam froze, eyes wide. System? Like in those web novels? The examples the user provided... A desperate, illogical spark of hope ignited within the terror.

Before his eyes, faint, translucent blue text began to scroll, visible only to him.

[Aspect Integration System Online]

He stared, rereading the text, his mind racing. It was real. A chance. Maybe not just to survive, but to thrive. The panic receded further, replaced by the cold, calculating pragmatism that had defined his previous life's approach to complex problems. He was weak, alone, and in unimaginable danger, but he had two advantages: knowledge of the future and this… System.

[Detecting Host's Unstable Condition and Precarious Starting Environment.]

[Novice Protection Protocol Activated.]

Hope surged. A B-Rank chance right off the bat? He didn't hesitate. "System," he thought

focusing his intent, "Use the lottery chances. Now."

[Processing Lottery Draws...]

Two ethereal wheels, one shimmering slightly brighter than the other, spun into existence in his mind's eye, filled with countless, unreadable symbols. They spun, blurred, and slowed.

[Lottery Complete!]

Information flooded his mind.

He felt a faint tingle spread through him as the Aspects settled into his potential.

Danger Intuition – invaluable for survival.

Urban Navigation – useful for getting around this unfamiliar city.

"Integrate both Aspects," he commanded mentally.

[Deducting 150 IP. Integrating Aspects...]

[Integration Complete! Remaining IP: 350]

[Current Integrated Aspects: Danger Intuition (B), Basic Urban Navigation (C)]

[Available Integration Slots: 1/3 (Initial)]

A subtle shift occurred within him. The city outside the window suddenly felt less like an incomprehensible maze. More importantly, a low-level hum of awareness settled in the back of his mind – the Danger Intuition, currently dormant but present.

He took a deep, steadying breath. Okay. He was Adam Walker. He was in Brooklyn, circa 2006. He had 350 IP, two Aspects integrated, and knowledge of a terrifying future. He was weak, vulnerable, but not entirely helpless.

Survival. That was the first step. Survive, get stronger, understand this System, and prepare. Prepare for Iron Man's debut, for Loki's invasion, for Ultron's rage, and for the inevitable arrival of the Mad Titan.

His grey eyes, no longer just reflecting the shock of a transmigrator but hardening with grim determination, scanned the small, run-down apartment. This was Day One. The clock was ticking.
