Chapter 1 - First encounter.

:)

"The main branch of Langley Enterprises is recruiting for various private assistant positions! Are you worthy? Are you capable? And most of all, are you up for a LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE? For any interested applicants, you may check our website for more information."

Huh.

Huh?

HUH?

I gawked at the billboard for like five minutes, just like an idiot who couldn't fathom a thing.

Position? Private secretary? Job? Langley company?

Holy goodness…

You must be kidding me.

A wide grin spread across my face, as I just admired the building in front of me. The main branch of Langley Ellington company was before me.

"Okay Kate, it looks like things are starting to brighten up for you!" I screamed as I threw my hands up in the air.

"Guess we're dealing a deal soon!"

A new job, a new decision, and a brand new me!

My new, No-Love-life is just about to start— right? Right? RIGHT?

And here I was standing outside of the prestigious Langley company the very next day.

I took a deep breath as I moved towards the Main gate of the company. I was nervous, the interview was scheduled for eight thirty but here I was at eight fifteen. Was I too early?

Cassie, my best friend and roommate, had said earlier that I was a bit too early. But I ignored and came anyway, wanting to at least keep a good punctuality image on my first attempt.

Anyways, I will go to the waiting room and wait.

I mean, being early can never hurt, you know? I'll just rehearse my answers to be as relaxed and convincing as possible during the interview.

After having the security show me the elevator, I walked in and as I was about to press the seventh floor, I heard some voice echo through the wall.

"You are expected to be in the light of how displeased I get with such absurd crashes in the system," A cool, cold and almighty voice came, "Nonetheless, we cannot waste further time on this matter today." The voice remained too cool, and yet, it felt as if it was a tiny bit… pissed? " As such, let us opt for the public elevator."

"Oh come on, man, how do you even have the energy to start the day like this?" A smooth, playful voice came in return. " And for heavens sake, you don't have to put on such a scary face that's stonier than your normal one! It's only a small crash in the system of your private elevator." Another voice - a gentler one - stated in a much more cheerful tone than the one before it. "This aura will scare of all potential cute applicants."

I flushed. Aha.

"Knock the playful tone off, Leonard. It is making me more displeased than I already am." The cold voice stated again, in a tone even colder than before.

I sighed.

Well, this did not concern me anyway, I don't know which Is the public elevator nor do I have any business with those people. I thought, as I pressed the button.

Just as the door was closing, a hand held it in mid-movement.

A hard masculine hand. Having a heavy watch on its right wrist that probably weighed my and Kate's apartment.

The moment I had a full view of the handsome man before me, I took in a deep breath. A much needed one.

And before I could take in his full appearance, a second Greek god came in my view too.

Without the need to disclose anything about what they worked, or what their positions were, the due did emit that VIP kind of aura.

From before me, the second one was the first to break the silence between us.

"So, miss, are you a new employer here? It's a marvel you're such a cutie and I do not know you!" He said as he stared at me with his light blue eyes, a broad smile on his face as his blonde hair wriggled around his head.

I bit my lips, blinking softly.

Fidgeting, I smiled back gently. "I… No, sir, actually I am here for the new private secretary position interview."

"Huh? But…" The blonde guy seemed confused with my reply.

"The interview starts at half past nine. It appears you got the wrong timing, which reflects irresponsibility and limited memory capabilities."

I blinked, taking my time to register who'd throw such a nice comment without knowing me or anything about me. My ears fumed with embarrassment and I gulped.

I was thinking that by coming here early I'd give a good impression, but the other guy on dark hair doesn't seem to see through that.

Almost in tears, I pulled my hair back and raised my head to meet his eyes while trying my best not to flinch.

"E-excuse me? I already know that the interview is at nine past thirty. Thank you for taking the time to point that out." I forced. Chewing my inner chin in the process, "It's just that I was worried I'd be late because of the traffic jam. I didn't think I'd arrive this early."

He did not bother looking in my direction, as he raised his phone to his ears, clearly uninterested in what I just said.

"Yes, keep my appointments for tomorrow as planned." He ordered, his vocals deep and authoritative.

I sighed, shaking my head as I just looked away, waiting for this non-very-nice-ride-to-start-the-day-with to end.

Minute. Two minutes.

Ping!

The elevator signaled we have arrived at the seventh floor. I quickly headed to the door of the elevator and as I got out, a voice stopped me.

"By the way, It's Leonard barker," the blonde smiled at me. "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name, love?"

He really did seem a nice guy and a dangerous flirt, but I prefer to just keep at the 'nice' part. I could not help but blush, and smile back at him. "I, it's Katherine. Katherine Reed."

For a moment, only a flicker of a moment, the guy with the cold expression flashed a look at me, as if registering my name. Then he abruptly looked away in a mean manner.

I turned around and walked away as the door of the elevator closed, moving towards a front desk where a woman was sitting.

"Uhm, excuse me, I'm here for the interview. May I know where I should wait?" I questioned.

The woman looked at me, " You may wait there." She said, signaling towards a certain room that had a 'waiting room' signal on its door.

I nodded and headed there.

As I sat, I started rehearsing my reply, trying to compose my voice and composure.

Soon enough, the room was crowded with people- applicants like me. Before I could examine every person in the room, the door swung open like some gates of heaven.

And in stormed him, with the blonde- Leonard Baker at his tail.

The room went dead, not even the sound of breathing was heard. Except the sound of the two guys footsteps marching inside the room. We were all waiting for the guy to speak, but instead, Leonard spoke.

"Well, well, now this is too much people applying for a single post! You are quite a fandom, Mr. President." The blonde announced cheerfully.

The president -like Baker called him- commented nothing after. But rather, threw him a glare which Leonard ignored.

"Let's move to the serious talks now! I am Leonard Baker, the vice-president. And this guy besides me is the sole heir and CEO of the Langley enterprises; President Rickard Langley Conway."

I didn't even have time to register who this guy really was when he started speaking again.

"The interview will be of two stages; the first stage will be an interview with me, considering I am the vice president and responsible for the human resource department." Leonard Baker announced, smoothly, roaming his casual and seductive gaze over us.

"And, because the position is important and rather of high influence on the company, the president will personally be your host at your second interview. That is, if I see you are capable enough to pass to the first level." He continued, maintaining his handsome, yet flirtatious smile.

I gulped.

Nice. Very nice.

I will face these two in my very first interview. Now, that's a fresh start.

It was second after that, that the president in question shifted, seeming to have come out of his silent shell. "I shall be waiting at my office for those who will get accepted at Leonard's interview, or I'd rather call it… test."

He eyed us all, moving his jaws arrogantly. "It is advisable to bear in mind that it shall not be easy and simple as anyone might wish an interview to be."

"Aquiring a position such as the private assistant of the Langley Enterprises president is no walk in the park. You have been warned. Act accordingly."

Once again, my mouth went dry.

Crap!

The president then turned away, existing the room, while Leonard looked at us, playfully. " The interview will start in ten minutes; I will start calling each of you in accordance to his number."

One thing was for sure… this was not how I planned everything to be.
