Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - Memories From Another Body

"Didn't I just die? Didn't they betray me and stab me in the chest?" Darius muttered as he looked around, unsure of what was happening.

However, his head was in so much pain, as if someone had removed memories from it or added some; he wasn't sure. As he looked around, he found himself in a shabby room that seemed to be some sort of wooden cabin.

Inside, there was a bed and some essentials for living, like clothes and food, but that was it. There was nothing else for Darius inside; well, there was also a mirror, but who cares about a mirror?

"Wait, where am I? Did they bring me here?" Darius said, thinking that his presumed friends had brought him here. "Is this the hospital?"

Then he stood up, wanting to see what was outside this wooden cabin.

He looked outside and saw a very large forest.

"Am I in the middle of nowhere?"

"Was everything simply a dream?"

However, he quickly dismissed this thought, as it didn't make any sense.

He wasn't in the same room as yesterday; his body felt different. He didn't know why, but he simply felt different as he walked around. The distribution of weight was different with each step he took.

"Did something happen to my body?" he muttered, heading toward the half-destroyed mirror in his room.

Arriving in front of it, Darius couldn't help but be shocked, his eyes widening as much as possible. He was looking at himself; however, what he was seeing, well... it wasn't him.

'My face? My body? Why is everything so different?' he thought as he started touching different parts of his body, analyzing them.

His dark hair, which he had in his past, was now white. His eyes, which had been a beautiful blue, were now red. But it wasn't a dark red that couldn't be easily seen; it was a bright red that could easily catch the eyes of everyone around.

However, that wasn't the most shocking thing about him; it was his body.

'Why am I so frail-looking?' Darius thought as he just couldn't understand why his body had changed so much overnight.

His body was so slim and unfit that Darius could see some of his bones through his skin; he could literally see the shape of the bone in his arm.

Then, as he kept looking at himself, his ongoing headache seemed to amplify, as if he were currently receiving a shock from what he was seeing.

"ARGHH! What's happening to me?" Darius shouted at the top of his lungs.

Memories that weren't his kept entering his mind as he saw the younger version of a person with white hair and red eyes playing around. Well, it looked like they were playing, but it seemed to be in some sort of dark and scary environment.

The people who were testing the children seemed to be playing with them; however, something confused Darius. Those adults were sometimes flying in the air or moving at a speed that wasn't humanly possible.

Then, he remembered being left alone in the middle of nowhere, clearly left to die by someone.

This part of his memory was quite fuzzy, as he couldn't remember much about that figure; however, there was one thing he remembered: their eyes were also red, just like his.

A few minutes after being left to die, he remembered going in the direction of this wooden cabin and arriving there; however, in his memory, he was much younger, as he could see himself looking at the mirror just like he was currently doing.

Then, all the memories vanished as if they had never existed, and his headache, which had been present, was also gone as if it had never existed.

"What the hell was that?" Darius said, as he knew that all those memories clearly weren't his. "Where am I and who the hell am I?!"

He had just seen people flying and moving at a speed that hadn't been achieved by the best athletes on Earth, so there was simply no way.

Wanting to know more about his surroundings, he decided that he should probably go look outside this wooden cabin, as he wanted to see if his memories corresponded with the current situation.

He opened the door, and all he saw were trees surrounding him.

"I really am in some little shack in the middle of nowhere."

On the other side of the cabin was the edge of a cliff where he could see some sort of city far away from him. It looked decently sized; however, it was hard to tell from such a distance. However, there were some differences from cities that were commonly found on Earth.

"This kind of architecture clearly isn't similar to what's used on Earth," Darius muttered.

Darius took a deep breath and went over everything he had just learned.

'So, I'm in the middle of a random forest in a completely different world where strange individuals can fly in the air at inhuman speeds. This is great…' Darius thought with sarcasm.

Darius continued to look toward the city, pondering if he should start heading toward it. He was not sure why he had stayed inside this strange wooden cabin for so long, but he believed that he would just be wasting time by staying here.

Right as he was about to make his decision, a distant sound of footsteps reached his ears.

It seemed that someone was approaching the cabin.

'Why would anyone be coming here? I'm in the middle of nowhere, goddammit. Is he here to kill me?'

The memories from a few minutes ago flashed inside of Darius's mind.

'Am I some sort of criminal? Is that why I had to get away from that city? Is that why that weird flying guy left me to die?' he thought, imagining many unbelievable scenarios unfolding. 'What even is my luck? Living as a pseudo slave in my previous life and now I'm in the body of someone who clearly isn't living his best life.'

Then the footsteps he had just heard started to get louder, as it was clear that a person was approaching the cabin.

"Darius, I'm here, come out," a feminine voice shouted.
