Chapter 3 - chapter 3: A day of ups and downs

I was still reeling from my boss's scolding earlier that day. He accused me of carelessness and threatened to deduct the money from my salary. I had accepted responsibility, but things took a turn for the worse when he insinuated that I was lying about using the money for virtual betting. As a cashier familiar with sports betting and virtual games, I knew the difference between the two. Virtual games involve betting on simulated matches, often with cartoon teams, whereas sports betting involves wagering on real teams and matches.

The confrontation left me speechless. In hindsight, I realized that I should have clarified my unfamiliarity with virtual games on the first day. However, I kept my cool and waited for him to leave. Later that evening, I received a missed call from an unknown number. I sent a beep, and to my surprise, the caller was the customer who had bought a card from me earlier. He apologized for his behavior and offered to settle the debt, even adding an apology fee to make amends.

The unexpected turn of events lifted my spirits. My boss arrived later, and I transferred the money to him. When he asked how I managed to recover the funds, I simply smiled and told him that the customer had returned. His curiosity was piqued, but I was just happy to have resolved the issue.

The following week, my boss transferred me back to the first branch where I had previously worked. My colleague, the second cashier, was moved to the second branch. However, my new work environment presented new challenges. The laptop's touchpad was slow, and my boss complained about my speed, comparing me unfavorably to my colleague. Despite the stress, the customers were understanding and helped make the situation more manageable.

After a particularly grueling day, I returned home with a headache. As I lay down, I couldn't shake off the feeling of frustration. Something clicked, and I decided that I had had enough. I called my mom and told her about my decision to quit. To my surprise, she seemed relieved, but advised me to finish out the month. I made up my mind to leave, and the next morning, I informed my boss. Returning the key to the store felt liberating, but the downside was that I didn't receive my full salary.

Now, as I sat at home, jobless and uncertain about my future, I couldn't help but wonder... would my brother's unexpected call change everything? He had been distant lately, but suddenly, my phone lit up with his name. My heart raced as I hesitated, wondering what he wanted. Little did I know, my life was about to take a dramatic turn...
