Chapter 3 - The Summoning Ritual

"First, I kindly call upon the 1st princess of the Veridion kingdom; princess LysandraVeridionuas." A roumd of applause burst out as the name was called.

From the first year students' group, a female student with long blonde hair, a slim figure, and green eyes walked towards the magic circle.

"Standard Summoning or Blood sacrificial Summonong?" The announcer asked.

"Standard," Princess Lysandra spoke in a confident tone.

The announcer nodded as he wrote down something on the files. Lysandre looked back at the magic circle and directed her arm.

From her hand, a golden aura came out. The golden aura entered the magic circle, and it began to change colour to a shade of gold.

-----

Summoning magic is done in two ways.

1. Standard Summoning

• Using your own Mana to summon a magical beasts or monster, using either a scroll or complete magic circle.

2. Blood Sacrificial magic

• Summoning magical beasts or monsters using one's own blood. The amount of blood needed depends on the monster that is about to be summoned.

-----

A golden light emitted from the magic circle. The light took the shape of a giant, red scaled dragon. It had horns, a large pair of wings & a tail.

The orange haired teacher from the raven black table stood up. He closed one of his eyes before saying,

"Red-scaled dragon. Its class is Wyvern, Element Fire and a Greater Dragon." A loud cheer came from the crowd.

'Summoning a Greater dragon at her age...' Zephyr thought. 'No wonder she's the golden child.'

Just then, the announcer looked at the princess and said, "Lysandra Veridionuas; rank - E."

A round of applause was heard. "E - rank?!

The highest entry ceremony rank was E-rank, so she broke the record?!"

The students began speaking among themselves as the dragon disappeared in a puff of smoke, becoming a smaller version of itself. It jumped on Lysandra's head as she walked over to one of the largest tables in the hall.

"I now invite the second Prince of the Veridion kingdom, the twin brother of princess Lysandre; Prince Lysander Veridion," the announcer said, causing another burst of applause.

Just like the princess, another blonde haired and green eyed boy stepped out of the first year students.

He walked towards the magic circle, and just like with his sister, the announcer asked what Summoning he would use.

"Blood Sacrificial Summoning," Lysander answered.

The announcer nodded and pointed at the small prick near the magic circle that was on a tall holder.

Lysander pricked his finger and let a few drops of blood fall onto the magic circle.

The magic circle glowed, brighter than Lysandra's, and a short glowing human appeared, causing astonishment amongst the students.

The orange haired man let out gasp as he opened his other eye.

"A Greater Spirit, and its Element is Water... the natural enemy of dragons." The man said as he looked at Lysandra.

The announcer looked at his file and wrote down something.

"Lysander Veridionuas; rank - E." Lysander smiled as the humanoid figure became a small glow of light. It began circling around Lysander as he headed towards the table where his sister was sitting.

"So now we gave the royal family members the first tries as of their authority. But now, we will solely depend on the marks you scored on the entrance exam," he said in a stern voice.

Students began gossiping among themselves, mainly about who the top-scorer was.

"And the person with the most marks in the entrance exam is..." The announcer spoke, silencing the students who were eager to see the top scorer was. "Zephyr Von Valor!!"

Not one person made a sound. As they realised who the person was.

Our protagonist walked towards the magic circle as he noticed the death stare from Nemona Valor; the headmistress and his older sister.

'There is no mistaking it... that is Zephyr," the headmistress told herself as she clenched her fist.

"Blood Sacrificial Summoning," Zephyr answered the announcer as he pricked his finger.

A single drop of blood fell on the magic circle before it began shining. A strong gust of wind filled the hall as the energy took the shape of a dragon. But this time, the dragon was smaller. It seemed that it was already in its resting form.

-----

Since Summoning magic consumes both the user's Mana, the monster enters into a form called the resting form.

In this state, the monster's capabilities are weaker, yet it preserves Mana in a very efficient method. The true form is the monster shifting back into its original form. (This consumes the Mana of the summoner). It is unique to summoned monsters.

-----

Some of the first and older students began laughing. "What is that?" Some said. "Are dragons supposed to be that small?" They mocked Zephyr. Even some of the younger teachers laughed at seeing the dragon.

Zephyr let out a sigh, but before anything else continued, the dragon he had summoned roared ferociously. The roar caused everyone to silence themselves.

The orange haired man took one look at the dragon and said,

"I can't appraise the dragon you summoned..." this caused confusion among the teachers.

"What do you mean?" Zephyr asked, finally intrigued about his summon.

"This monster is an anomaly. It is a dragon, that was in its resting form the moment you summoned it but it has spiritual energy overflowing from it." He answered before looking back at Zephyr.

"Only summoned monsters can shift into the resting form and dragons do not have a soul." Zephyr muttered. The teacher nodded, confirming Zephyr's statement.

He looked back at his summon, to see it was gone. He felt some weight on his head, so he rose his hand to make sure that it was the dragon on his head.

"Plus, this dragon already has affection towards you." As he said that, the dragon licked Zephyr's fingers.

The teacher looked at the announcer and gave him the 'I-don't-know-what-to-do' look.

The announce let out a sigh and said,

"Zephyr Von Valor; rank is undecided. So your rank will depend on your next test results". Zephyr nodded.

He headed to one of the tables. For the rest of the Summoning ritual, no one spoke or sat with Zephyr.

But it was alright. As a wise man once said; 'No one helped me in my lowest, so I don't need anyone in my highest'
