Chapter 3 - Episode-3

I'm at the beach. It's quiet here. Just like usual. No one feels real except for my closest friend. Where am I? Why does everyone act like I don't exist? Why isn't the metro working? Why isn't the bus passing by? Why aren't there any taxis? Why do strange events get forgotten after they happen? Why do certain actions stay unanswered in such a bizarre way? It's like everyone is in my head. Like everything is a lie. I don't want to live a life of anger anymore. Even the girl I once called my friend, I can't even tell if she's real anymore. She's acting like a robot. Everyone in this world is like a robot. Everyone expects something from me. Maybe it's time to leave this world, isn't it, my old friend?

30 minutes ago:

"Where did the children disappear to?"

"They went to school, darling."

"What nonsense are you talking about? It's dark out, what school?"

"Are you okay? Did you hit your head, Rei?"

"You're the one with the problem. I might not care about my children, but after all these senseless events, even you are acting irrationally."

"You need to rest. Eat the food I put in the fridge."

"To hell with the fridge."

I said and left the house. Was I going to look for the children? Of course not! I was just messing around.

Now:

"My friend, how are you? Are you okay? Thank you for never leaving me alone until now. You've been with me since I was born. I love you more than my wife, my friends, my family. You're the only one who makes sense in this world."

Devil: "The time has come. Aren't you tired of this crappy world? Everyone hates you. And you hate everyone. Especially, don't you think you've suffered enough these last days? Isn't everything in life nonsensical? Events happen that don't match reality."

"Yes," I mumbled to my friend. Or rather, my old friend. He was the one who never left me until four years ago, when he abandoned me. Why? It just became clear. I think he came to bid me farewell.

Devil: "You know you created me. So, when you die, I'll die too. If you don't feel regret, neither will I. So, let's end our fate as soon as possible."

"You're right," I mumbled. After all these nonsensical events, I wanted to escape this situation, or rather, this life. I don't want to hear alarm sounds every morning anymore. The repeated events every day…

I had a heavy dose of drugs in my hand. No need to tell the rest.

...

His bag was packed. Colonel Tsukihana Kaito was looking at himself in the mirror. He hadn't seen his family in months. His sister was missing. His parents were most likely dead. "Whatever," he said to himself. Suddenly, Major Aiko appeared.

"Are you okay, Colonel? What are you thinking about?"

"It's none of your business."

"You know Europe is in a terrible situation. So many people have died. Japan is struggling to survive. Cities have been destroyed. They even made a child like you a colonel. Everyone is so desperate. In this world, what could possibly worry you?"

"I told you, it's none of your business. Last warning."

Colonel Kaito was angry. Anyway, he thought. At least he should find his sister. He grabbed his gun. He was heading to inspect the military base. More specifically, the local civilians and soldiers living in the shelter. If he came across anyone contaminated by radiation, his only action would be to put a bullet in their head. If two people were having sex and one was contaminated, he'd kill both. After all, survival in the shelter was tough. Everyone had to be clean.

The shelter had three floors. The first floor housed civilians, the second was the military center, and the third had artificial physics systems. That is, artificial light sources for farming. You couldn't grow clean fruits or plants outside. The Colonel's job was to inspect all floors. He did, and then sat in his office.

He closed his eyes. Empty memories of his family came to him. Of course, they would be empty; he had always been antisocial, as he would say.

A phone call woke him up. The thing he heard frightened him:

"The Japanese Government has fallen."
