Chapter 1 - Prologue

In this world, humanity is divided into three paths—the Luminaries, the Mortalis, and the Abyssals.

Luminaries are rare and revered. Chosen by fate and blessed with incredible abilities—like healing wounds with a touch, commanding the forces of nature, or glimpsing the future—they are protectors of the realm. Though their numbers are few, they've stood for generations as the world's final defense against darkness. Some view them as wise and noble. Others, as distant and untouchable.

Mortalis make up most of the population. They live ordinary lives—teaching, farming, building, dreaming. They may not have powers, but their resilience, kindness, and curiosity are powerful in their own right. Some Mortalis are content with peace. Others, however, are tempted by more—by what they don't have, and by what they believe they deserve.

And it's that craving—for power, recognition, control—that sometimes leads them down a dangerous path.

Those who fall become Abyssals.

Once Mortalis, they've given up their humanity to embrace forbidden magic. Twisted by darkness, they become something else entirely—deadlier, crueler, and driven by vengeance. To them, Luminaries are not protectors, but selfish tyrants hoarding power. And they want it back—all of it.

Long ago, Luminaries and Abyssals clashed in a brutal war. The Luminaries won, barely, and forced the Abyssals into hiding. Peace followed—but it was fragile, and over time, people forgot just how close the world came to falling apart.

To guard against another war, each Luminary family was tasked with protecting a region, quietly watching, quietly waiting.
