Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Rebirth

In just two hours, a great person can achieve many things.

For example——

Time travel!

Two hours ago, Dawei was an ordinary young man in China. He was quietly watching the 27th round Premier League match of Manchester United versus Arsenal in the 2015-16 season.

But just two hours later, before the match even ended, Dawei had transformed into David Parvis, the young chairman of English Division 2 club Notts County.

It all seemed incredible.

What was even more astonishing was that his arrival point in time was the year 2001 — the 2000-01 season was just coming to an end. He had traveled back 15 years into the past, taking over a British body.

David now had the memories and knowledge of the former soul, alongside his own. This identity had a somewhat favorable background. Chairman Pavis, before passing, had left more than ten million pounds in assets, including the ownership of Notts County — the oldest professional club in England.

However, this was two or three years prior to this moment. Since taking over Notts County, David's predecessor had held noble ambitions to elevate the club to the top, but the team was still languishing near the bottom of the Premier League, and the club itself was on the verge of bankruptcy.

In his previous life, David had some understanding of Notts County football club but never paid it much attention. A team rooted deep in the lower tiers of English football, despite its historic status, didn't capture his focus.

But none of that stopped David from wanting to take control of this historic club.

In fact, it was perhaps his greatest dream as a fan in his former life.

Now, Notts County was his club completely — all his own.

David felt a surge of excitement.

"I have all the knowledge of football's development from the past," he thought. "I know the future stars, the top players in the world. Isn't that enough to lead Notts County to glory?"

He whispered fiercely in his heart:

I will lead Notts County to become one of the top clubs worldwide!

David owed a debt of gratitude to his father, Pavis, who had vested all his shares in Notts County before his death — including the Meadow Lane Stadium, which had been reclaimed after previous financial troubles.

This meant David's starting point was far from low. Unlike a small amateur club without a stadium, he had real assets on his side — but still, the situation wasn't ideal.

In recent years, the club had signed many high-paid players without transfer fees, pushing the wage burden to heavy levels. Despite continuous financial infusions, the team's performance stagnated. The recently concluded season saw Notts County finishing eighth — not qualifying for the promotion playoffs.

Currently, David lacked the resources to keep pumping money into the club, which was still burdened by over £2 million in debt — a huge obstacle standing in his way.

The squad composition troubled him as well. The first team consisted mostly of aging, expensive veterans more interested in maximizing their salaries than showing fighting spirit.

Without Dawei's intervention—without his time travel—David likely would continue on as his former self. Within a season or two, Notts County might fall into bankruptcy, be taken over by banks, and eventually sold cheaply to investors. The club's future would be detached from David's destiny.

But now that David had crossed time, perhaps this meant the club's fate would change.

Would it not?
