United Nations Human Resources Development Organization - Asia Branch
The United Nations Human Resources Development Organization, often referred to as UNHRDO, is a cooperative body dedicated to developing and distributing skilled human resources to support both institutional and private sectors. Established as the successor to the International Human Resource Development Organization, which was founded in 1946, the UNHRDO is focused on non-profit efforts involving the dispatch, transfer, and dissemination of talent across various fields.
Its global reach includes branches in Berlin (Germany), Hong Kong (China), Canberra (Australia), Johannesburg (South Africa), and Sao Paulo (Brazil), each working to ensure a flow of qualified personnel into the workforce.
When Jeong Tae-eui arrived at Chek Lap Kok Airport, a large vehicle was already waiting for him. A hulking man, who could easily be mistaken for a bodyguard rather than a driver, silently greeted his uncle, took the luggage, and placed it in the car. Tae-eui, with only a small Boston bag, casually placed it alongside his uncle's larger luggage before sliding into the back seat next to him.
The thin booklet his uncle had handed him contained a brief description of their destination, with a few pictures here and there. Tae-eui knew the paper wouldn't offer much value—it was more of a superficial pamphlet, one that could be skimmed in just a few minutes. He had already done some preliminary research before leaving, so there was no need to dwell on it further.
As the car moved away from the airport, Tae-eui absentmindedly fanned himself with the booklet, finishing it in silence. His uncle, sitting beside him, quietly reached over and took the booklet from his hands, flipping through the pages with a slight grin. It seemed his uncle thought the paper a waste of materials.
"It's easier to understand if you think of us as bureaucrats from public and private organizations in each country, or as an institution that trains key figures," his uncle explained.
Tae-eui tilted his head slightly. "So, to put it simply, you raise people and then sell them to organizations in different countries?"
"Well, people who want to be 'sold' willingly gather and support the cause, so it's more of a mutual aid system," his uncle replied without a hint of offense, as if the comment didn't bother him in the slightest.
Tae-eui handed the booklet back, not interested in reading the text but instead paying attention to the images. The pictures showcased impressive buildings, sleek conference rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology, and stern-looking men dressed in suits.
"Among the people listed here, are there any that catch your eye?" his uncle teased, laughing as he glanced at the booklet.
Tae-eui scrunched up his face and gave a small shake of his head. "I'm not really into the whole 'proper' thing… Honestly, I'm not interested in hugging anyone who smells like a man. I prefer something softer, like the scent of soap or milk. But I'm guessing that kind of thing doesn't exist in this industry."
His uncle raised an eyebrow, amused. "Soap or milk? That's an interesting preference... Keep in mind that underage fornication is a crime, even in China. Of course, outside the branch's walls, things get a little more complicated. But there are no minors here—so feel free to make your move."
Tae-eui stared at his uncle in disbelief. "You've somehow turned me into a molester of underage kids in an instant… I've never even seen anyone with a single digit age, let alone someone with a '1' in front of their age."
His uncle chuckled softly, enjoying the banter. Tae-eui, not one to let a jab slide, responded with a dry look.
"Well, if you were only twenty years younger, you might have just the right taste."
The smile on his uncle's face faltered for a moment. He blinked, looking at Tae-eui as if the remark had caught him off guard, but soon he was back to his usual grin. Shrugging as though understanding the unspoken meaning, he quickly shifted the topic.
"You'll find out when you get there, but do you have any questions for me?"
Tae-eui sighed and leaned back in his seat. "I don't even know where to start... I'd need to know a bit about something to get curious, but right now, I don't know enough to know what I don't know. Like you said, I'll just go, live, and figure things out as I go."
