Chapter 1 - ARRIVAL

It was dark - I could barely see my own hands, and it was cramped, too. I was constantly picking out splinters from my hands and legs. The wood of this stupid crate was really starting to annoy me.

Those humans finally managed to catch me, after a fucking decade. And now, I'm trapped in a box being sent who knows where! If I wasn't so starved and stupid, I wouldn't have fallen for that trap...

There was at least a cracked in the crate, not big enough for me to stick a talon or tooth through, but enough to see through. The truck carrying was slow, I could tell it was barely going 30 mph. I saw the road it was driving on, some weird, white barriers blocking it off from the rest of the street where cars were lined up, all filled with humans with their phones out, recording and taking pictures.

I had always known I was a bit of a celebrity because of my accomplishment of evading capture for a decade, but I never thought so many people would be so invested in my recapture. It sickens me.

It was bright outside, the sky painted a light blue instead of the dark purple i saw before I blacked out. How long has it been? Probably hours, maybe even a day. But the truck was still going... where is it taking me.

My wings twitch in agitation before I slam myself against the crate, and I hear the wood creak slightly, some dust falling down. I look back outside again, seeing the humans gasp and look at each other. Though faint, I can still hear them say how I've 'finally woken up' and 'already causing problems'.

I feel someone slam their fist against the crack, making me jump. "Knock it off, peacock." I hear a gruff voice say, and i growl in response. In spite, I slam my body against the crate again despite the pain of doing so. I then slumped on my side, brown furrowed in frustration. What the fuck down they want with me?

 ~•----•~

I feel as the truck finally slowed to a stop, followed by something slamming against the ground. I flinch as I feel someone pick the crate I'm in up, my talons scraping again the wood. "Calm down, will you?" I hear them mumble. Same voice as before... I think to myself.

I swiftly look out the hole again, staring outside once again. I see men in black, their backs to me. In front of them are more barriers, some humans watching from the other side. Why were they making this such a big deal? Don't they catch hybrids every day?

I can barely make out an odd looking building. It was made out of white tiles and stone and seemed very big. I look up at the lid of the crate, nudging it with my head. I manage to peak my head out slightly without anyone noticing.

I see lots of humans, young and old, watching with enthusiasm as I'm carried into the building, the few who see my me barely peaking out cheering and recording. I roll my eyes and look ahead to see two massive, bronze doors.

A human with a fancy suit slowly opens it, revealing a luxurious and spacious room inside. There are two staircases, both with golden rails. There are quite a few plants and rugs that cover some of the white marble floors, alongside some velvet couches near further away windows.

My jaw nearly drops, but I keep a straight face until I hear them again. "Damn. This place is huge." I hear the man from earlier mumble. "No kidding." I reply, watching from the corner of my eye as he nods for a second before realizing. "Get your ass back in there!" He hiss quietly, grabbing the lid of the crate and pushing it down, trying to shut me in it again.

I growl, turning my body around as I push back, not wanting to be trapped in darkness again. I manage to catch a glimpse of the man's face. He was dark-skinned, his black hair was in short braids, and his eyes were like amethysts.

We continued to struggle for a few minutes, the guards that followed us in, watching in concern, until we heard a voice boom through the room. "Do you have the hybrid?" An angry voice asked, and i felt my body tense.

I swiftly turn my head to see a large man in a black suit. His brown eyes were cold and unforgiving. The smell of smoke began to waft through the room, and I spotted a cigar in the man's hand, which only made me even more tense.

"Yes. We're certain this time, sir." The man holding the crate reassured. This time? How many hybrids have they captured and mistaken for me? I flinch as the man raises the crate up a bit, no longer trying to shut me in it.

My eyes lock with the intimating man's, and i feel my body freeze up. He looked like he was ready to kill me! The man began to descend the stairs, every step of his booming. "So this is the elusive hybrid? I expected him to look... less pathetic."

I narrow my eyes as he approaches, leaning back away from him. "Not that pathetic if I managed to evade you humans for years..." I mumble, looking away. I then felt the man's large hand grab my face harshly, twisting my head to meet hus gaze once again.

"You got lucky, hybrid." His voice thundered, his breath reeking of booze and smoke. "And now, your luck has stopped." I begin to growl out a response when he suddenly shoves me back into the crate, the lid slamming down afterward.

I beat my fists against the wood until I hear the intimating man say, "Take him to the meeting room. Up the stairs and take a left, walk until you see the door numbered '4'."

I feel as I start getting carried away, and I huddled up against the back of the crate, feeling a wave of dread wash over me as we ascend the stairs. If that man was in charge of capturing me, who knows what he wants from me?

I feel as the man carrying me stops, and my heart sinks as I hear a door click open. I'm carried into a chatter-filled room, everyone whispering about 'that hybrid'. They all go silent as I'm placed on something, a table most likely.

I hear the door close and lock as someone else enters, the man from earlier, most likely. I flinch as lid to the crate is taken off, but I stay low, trying to hide from prying eyes. "Come out, hybrid." A hear a gruff voice command, and i reluctantly comply.
