Chapter 1 - Answer the call.

"Escape. Survive. Hide. Answer the call."

Those were the only words repeating in Myra's head as she ran for dear life. Her white hair clung to her face and clothes, drenched with rain and slick with sweat.

She couldn't stop. Not now. Not with those things still after her.

Tears of fear streaming out of her eyes with an unstoppable vigor. But she kept running. No time to wipe her tears. No time to cry. No time to think. Not after she ignored the call that could've saved them.

[Flashback begins.]

"Dear diary. Today is the thirteenth of April of the year 2028." Myra muttered to herself as she scribbled those words down into her diary, while she walked. Clad in her usual school uniform, Her silky white hair cascading down her back and ending just above the curve of her pelvis. Her piercing blue eyes darted between the diary and the road ahead of her. Her fairly long legs slowly stepped forward, as if she doesn't want to reach her destination.

"I'm currently on my way to school, I'm about to receive my twelfth grade's second term report card. I'm so scared. I really wanna pass this. I can't spend another year in school. No. Never." Myra let out a sigh as she gently slapped her own face.

"Calm down, Myra. You'll surely pass." She said as she closed her diary and capped her pen as she tucked them away in her purse, she didn't bring her backpack as she wasn't taking any classes, just taking her report card and leaving. She closed the purse and taking a deep breath as she approached her school. "Don't let me come here again, Elysium Academy. Jeez, who the hell named a High school 'Elysium'...?" She asked herself, a chuckle following the question as she entered the main hall.

"Please be good..." She repeated in her head as she walked to her classroom, no one was there. It felt weird as the school's never usually that empty. But she thought everyone just came early to get their marks early. She shrugged it off and noticed a small pile of papers on the teacher's desk. Must be the rest of the report cards.

"At least no one's gonna be there to laugh at me if I failed.." She said to herself with a chuckle while she approached the desk. Searching through the report cards, until she finally found her name. Myra Vespera.

"There she is!" Myra said with a grin as she read the report card. Her grin disappearing and her heart dropping to her feet as she read her mark.

"Myra Vespera."

"43%"

"43/100."

"Fail."

She gripped the report card tightly as tears welled up in her eyes. Not at the sadness of her failure. But at the anger at the fact that she's gonna be still studying for a whole other year, if she didn't pass the second round.

"God... Damn it all..." She stared at the ground as she walked out of the classroom in silence. A look of despair on her face as she wiped her tears.

"Mom's gonna kill me..." She muttered as she stepped into the yard. Glaring at the school's monument sign briefly before turning ahead and walking out of the gate.

She looked up and noticed the weather stilled weirdly since she entered the school. The birds went silent.. The sky grew cloudy, hinting at rain.

"Weird..." Myra muttered to herself. But she didn't pay it much mind as these sudden weather changes happen pretty often around here. And besides, she had something more important to care about. How she's gonna explain her marks to her parents.

As Myra silently walked, taking the same turns and crossing the same roads she had crossed for the past three years of her life. And now she's gonna do that for one more year.

She then noticed a vibration in her purse. Must be her phone, who wants to call her at such a great moment? She opened it and pulled her phone out as she read the caller ID.

"Mom"

Myra's heart sank as she read the caller ID. "No.. No, not now." She said as she simply pushed the power button, silencing her phone as she put it back in her purse. She'd rather explain this in person. Little did she know...

Myra didn't close her purse yet. She pulled her diary and pen out and then closed the purse. Flipping to the same page from earlier as she went to the empty space below the text she wrote. "Update, I failed miserably. 43%. Now if I don't pass the second round in summer, I'll be back there, studying my brain out while my friends get to have fun and go to college. Great, just great."

She then stopped at a grocery store as she remembered that her younger brother, Sammy had asked her to buy him some candy while she's out, despite her terrible mood. She's not one to make her little brother sad. She picked out his favorite candies and went to the register, checked out and pulled some money out her purse and handed it to the cashier. "Thank you". She muttered as she took the candy and left.

The sky grew darker as she approached her home. "Definitely gonna rain..." She muttered to herself as she looked up at the sky. Her grip tightened on the paper in her hand as she approached her house. She walked up to the front door and noticed that it's slightly ajar. She raised an eyebrow, but assumed her little brother messed with it or something. as she pushed it open slowly

"I'm home.." *She muttered as she took off her shoes and walked inside, her diary still in hand as she walked inside. But she froze as she noticed a strange stain on the floor. A small puddle of a strange red liquid, a strange metallic smell filled her nostrils. She raised an eyebrow as she walked further inside, Now growing weary.

"Mom, dad? Sammy?" She called out to her family as she walked through the hall, multiple different stains on the walls and floor, of similar color to the earlier stain.

She passed the hall and arrived at the living room. "Guys?" She froze in her tracks as her eyes shot open in shock, her mouth gaping at the sight before her.

The room was covered in blood, the floors.. The walls.. The TV.. The window, even the roof, was bloodstained.

She looked down and saw a hand on the floor. Just a hand. No body with it...

Her legs trembled as she saw her family. In different bits all over the room.. Her father, Mack's head was on the floor. He was just asking her if she needed anything before she left.

Her mother, Maria's stomach was slit open as her guts and intestines spilled out. She had just been yelling at her this morning, because she's late...

Her little brother, Sam's face was defiled, his right hand missing, And the entirety of his left leg was also gone. His face, formerly a happy kid that loves his older sister, now a gruesome mess before her eyes. What about the candy he wanted?

But that's not the only thing she saw. She saw something else. Creatures... Strange creatures.. Skin as black as ink, glowing yellow eyes with a murderous glint in them, Abnormally Sharp teeth, covered in blood and guts. And large strange statures, unnaturally long limbs, bloated torsos, and twisted heads that don't take up a straight shape., Each of the four creatures in the room had a different stature, but they were all pretty similar in the most part.

One was holding her father's headless corpse, greedily drinking the blood from his severed neck. another feasting on his head like a melon. A third was at her mother's corpse. Its head planted in the gaping gash across her stomach as it devoured her guts, and the fourth was holding her brother's leg as it slowly tore it off, chunk by chunk.

They chewed slowly, savoring the flesh of her family as if they're in a five-star restaurant. knowing no one is there to stop them.
