Chapter 68 - The Quiet Before the Shatter

POV: You

Location: Ruins of East Echo – Near the Surface Exit

Ash floated through the air like dead snow.

You stood still, shoulders aching from the last fight, but your chest felt heavier from something deeper.

And there she was—Seris.

Leaning against a broken support beam, arms crossed, eyes cold.

"I figured you'd come this way," she said.

You didn't answer.

The air between you carried too much history to be broken by casual words.

"Zeyren's losing control," she added. "But you… you already lost yours, didn't you?"

That one cut.

"…I never meant for you to end up here."

She laughed. No humor.

"You left me. And now I wear Echo's colors because I had no one else."

You took a slow step forward. "I didn't leave you. I lost you in the storm."

Her eyes locked on yours.

"No. You turned your back."

The Fight Begins—Soft but Heavy

She drew her blade—not fast, not furious. Just… sad.

You drew yours, not because you wanted to, but because you had to.

Your first clash was quiet steel on steel. No screams. No explosions.

Just pain.

And her voice through clenched teeth:

"I waited for you."

And yours, breaking apart:

"I tried to come back."

---

Emotion Peaks Mid-Fight

You were faster. She was sharper.

She cut your arm.

You blocked her next swing—and held her close.

"Seris… I still care."

She froze—just for a second.

Then shoved you away, eyes burning.

"I don't need your guilt."

You didn't move.

"I'm not giving you guilt. I'm giving you truth."

---

Scene End:

You both stood in silence again.

Not as enemies. Not as friends.

Just two souls standing between what was and what will never be again.

Seris lowered her blade.

And walked into the shadows.
