Chapter 1 - Permission Denied

Ding Ding Ding Ding Rang the alarm clock. It was 7 a.m. as Edin Williams, a 13-year-old, got up. She was extremely smart and was the top student in her classes. Her father was an author, and her stepmother was a famous model. She went downstairs and saw her mother doing makeup. "I see you've woken up." Says her mother, Maria Wiliiams. "Where's Dad?" Edin asked. "He's at his meet and greet. Now go brush your teeth and eat breakfast. I want you out of the house as quickly as you can, so get ready for school. Chop chop!" Her mother shouted. Edin rolled her eyes and prepared for school.

When she arrived, she saw her only friend, Zayne. "Hey Ed!" Zayne shouted. "Hello, Zayne. " Edin replied. The reason Zayne was Edin's only friend was that others hated her for being the smartest person in the school, and without her, people would have a chance to earn the top. "You finished this week's assignment? Due tomorrow?" Zayne asked. "Of course. You know me, I've finished since the Professor announced." Edin replied. They walked to their class.

"Good morning, everyone!" Professor White shouted. "Good morning, Professor!" Every student replied. "So you know last week's assignments, right. I've corrected them. I will give them back now." Says the professor. Everyone received their assignment back. Most people got A's, but some got B's. As for Edin, she got an A+. Zayne got an A with a 98. Everyone hated Edin even more now. When school ended, Edin waved goodbye to her friend and returned home. On her way, she saw a poster that says:

The Crime Happened at 9:28 this morning. James Barker saw his neighbour's dead body this week. He was Edward Williams. Be careful. All detectives are working on this mystery. Stay safe.

"Wh-what?" Edin asked herself quietly. It was her father. She ran to home very fast and saw the police and detectives, and the ambulance. "N-no..." "What happend, what happened?" She shouted. She saw her mother crying. "Are you Edward Williams' daughter?" Asked the police. "Yes. Tell me! What happened?" She asked, tears streaming down her eyes. "Well...."

The next thing she knew, she was in the house at night with her mother. "Your father's dead, okay?" Says Maria harshly. She ran to her bedroom, and now her thoughts filled her head. What will happen now? Who killed dad? Am I supposed to live with the evil woman? Should I solve it? But she was fast asleep.

The next morning at school, everyone heard the news. They didn't feel bad at all. "Ed, you all right? I- I'm so sor-" Says Zayne. "It's okay. It's not your fault anyway." Zayne was extremely sad and felt bad. "We need to get revenge on whoever killed your dad. Will you-" Zayne asked. "I've already thought of that. I will find the person. I will ask the detectives after school. Come with me, okay?" Edin asked as Zayne nodded, now serious.

It was after school, and the two friends walked to the detective agency, also known as the DA. "Excuse me, young ladies, you are not allowed to enter-

"Listen, Mister. My friend just lost her father. Yes, she is Edin WIlliams, now shut your blabbing mouth because you do not want to be fired." Says Zayne. Even with he attitude, the person let them in after knowing her name. "Edin Williams? What are you doing here? Who is this?" A detective asked. "This is my friend, Zayne. We are here because, well, we want to help the agency, it's my father," Edin said. "No, Edin. Look, I'm sorry, but you guys are kids. We are working on this crime, and we will finish it for you." "IT IS MY FATHER!" Edin yelled. Every detective looked at them. "Sorry, guys, but we won't let kids help us. You guys... well... can't do anything." "We can and we will," Edin said. "L-let's just go, Edin. Come on. We have... er... better things to do." "No, Zayne.-" But Zayne called her outside. "What? Why did you-" "Look, if they aren't going to let us help them, we will do it ourselves, okay?" Edin thought for a second. "Fine. Tomorrow is Saturday. We will sneak in there and grab some guns, swords from long ago, and knives, agree?" She asked. "Agreed."
