I was diagnosed with something that changed my life quite a bit, at the age of three. Needless to say, the fact that I still remember it is fantastic. I have Hyperthymestia syndrome.
When I was diagnosed with this disease, October 22, 2013, at a hospital I didn't know. The doctor was wearing his doctor's coat, beige pants and a green shirt. He also gave a message, "this is a moment he will remember." How did he know? That's something I don't know either.
From then on I could remember all the events in my life with quite a bit of detail, I was used by them as a navigator. As long as I existed, no matter how far we went, we would definitely find our way back. It's still the same now.
---
Definitely, i should now wake up.
I opened my eyes, an unfamiliar ceiling. Where was I? What's with all this medical equipment lying next to me? Am I in a hospital? The distance to the nearest hospital is about two kilometers from the village.
In the corner of the room, I saw two people who were asleep, sitting on their backs. Noir and Sunny. They were my friends, does this mean I survived whatever happened back then.
"Paradichlorobenzene, you are the most distant, also the weakest among them. Your body always having a strange disease intrigues me, but that doesn't mean you can just die." Mr. Umbrella came to open the door.
"What's with the paradichlorobenzene?" I asked.
"The place is starting to fill up with a lot of things that are, let's just say, disgusting. It's likely that the gas has spread, I've informed Noir and the others so I gave them masks to cover their noses. But you, walking too slowly behind."
I sighed.
"So, where am I? This strange bright place, is this what's inside that door?" I asked.
Mr. Umbrella nodded.
"This place is called Annt, more precisely the Annt research center, named after its creator, professor Ann. This place he built, in the year 2030." Mr. Umbrella explained.
"2030?! What do you mean, we were just in 2026? Did we travel through time?"
"Hold Your Horses. I did say 2030, but I didn't tell you what lane our universe is on. It's all because of professor A**, and he is-" Mr. Umbrella explained.
Again, who is the professor he mentioned, I didn't hear what he was talking about, is this sleep paralysis? No way. I can move my arms so it's not.
"Instead of that, let's go. I'll show you around this place. Annt's maze, as the name implies, was inspired by how ant swarms make their nests. But I need to also ask you something, do you know Minecraft?" Asked Mr. Umbrella.
"That square game, what is it?"
"No, more specifically, Skyblock. Where you're on a floating island with a small amount of materials that can be transformed into something more vibrant with a strange method, all the items are renewable, it's a paradise. If we can't run out of stuff then imagine how far science can go." Mr. Umbrella paused.
After exiting the hallway where I had fallen asleep, Mr. Umbrella leaned against a glass wall. Looking into it, the place had a structure that existed in a subliminal place like the backroom.
There was a large hole in the center of the room with a path around the hole to get to the bottom. The place was surrounded by patients, as well as doctors and scientists, it looked like an illegal hospital.
"But yes, there are items that can't even be obtained. If you throw away the entire stock of an item until there's nothing left then it can be considered extinct. The history of mankind must not become extinct, hence this place, a place for 'sick' people with each patient having a different disease."
Mr. Umbrella smiled sarcastically. Not funny.
"So that's it?" I asked.
Mr. Umbrella laughed. "I'm glad you asked."
It took a while for Mr. Umbrella to stop laughing, until he finally continued.
"I want you to work here! As a patient as well as a scientist."
My mouth dropped open. He wants me to work here? Is it not a trap?
"You are a very interesting species, have Hyperthymestia syndrome, an Insomniac, in the future something good will come back to you. Negative things plus positive things that stitch each other's existence together. Something rare like that should not be extinct! How is it? Are you interested?"
I pause, tryng to comprehend his words. I bit my finger, looking at him, he's so proud of himself.
"I'm warning you, I'm from the future."

I went to school late, my graduation was only a few months away. But school life is still going on as it was last semester. They should have just let us have a vacation before facing our life choices.
Whatever, it doesn't really matter. After all, at school all we do is wait for homecoming. Last week's tests were done, now all that was left was...it seemed like it would be busy at school.
"Aadflyn, you are our most outstanding student. You've even learned tenth grade materials and above. At this rate, no matter which school you go to, you will definitely excel." The homeroom teacher explained.
I smiled awkwardly.
"Thank you, you too. Being a very good homeroom teacher in doing her job."
"Thanks for the compliment. So, where do you plan to continue your education?" The homeroom teacher asked.
Continue where? I remembered Mr. Umbrella's words, did he threaten me back then? If so, why did I have to become a patient as well as a scientist there. I'm not even sixteen years old.
A while after that I had a discussion with Noir and Sunny, Mr. Umbrella said I could bring them along to work, even recommended it. I told him to give me two weeks, but the first week had already passed.
"Hello, Aadflyn?" The homeroom teacher snapped her fingers, bringing me out of the hallway of thoughts.
"So?" She asked.
I shook my head. I didn't know.
After school, I met up with the others again. We were discussing the pros and cons of working there compared to continuing our education at a reputable university in the capital.
"On the count of three, name the troublesome thing about working there. One! Two! Three! It's far away." Noir shouted, making most of the people in the cafe look at us.
"Do we get paid?" Sunny casually drank a double shot of espresso.
"Of course, silly, it's called work."
I was the only one who didn't answer, focusing on eating the cheesecake I'd ordered. The rooftop cafe near our school had a beautiful view.
In addition, it was the place where we gathered because there were rarely any people, it was covered by another cafe down below. Compared to them, they seem to have given up on school. Just look at their spirit.
Even so, working in the lab. Their lab? Won't they blow up the lab? That's what I'm a little worried about.
"I knew you'd be here!" Someone said from behind.
A tall and muscular man, he was my Junior, his name was Nich. One of the oddities of this muscular person is that he is very timid, especially to talk.
I don't know when he started to get close to me, I don't care either, because he is here for one thing and one thing only.
Aside from help with homework, this guy is... in love with Noir.
