Chapter 3 - A Strange Rival

Later, after saying goodbye to the Cooper family, he said to his mom: "That boy named Sheldon is not friendly at all. I even intimidated him, and that really wasn't my intention."

"Could he become your rival?"

"Not in a thousand years..."

"So, do you think Sheldon is upset because he's never met a kid smarter than him? I seriously think he might have some kind of spectrum disorder." Judy looked at her son, who was carrying his huge suitcases down to the basement where his new workshop would be, and said: "Maybe it's misophobia, have you considered that?"

"Misophobia... you're right, Mom. He must have a lot of phobias that he expresses in ways that can make people misunderstand him." Jimmy stopped paying attention to the subject and went down to the basement, which, starting today, would be his sanctuary.

He missed his old workspace, but now that he was in a new place, he would have to make do with what he had. Without wasting time, he got to work.

"Goddard, I need you to help me decide which areas to use for each of my activities. I'm considering the possible complications that might arise while developing my new creations." Jimmy said while carefully taking out his supercomputer, which he had built himself.

Goddard, being the good multifunctional assistant, went straight to work when given his master's command.

Quickly, Goddard analyzed the basement's dimensions and quickly assigned an area for the workshop, another for deeper research, and a final one for storing important objects.

This saved Jimmy a lot of time, and he started unpacking his inventions and placing them on a wooden shelf that the previous owners had installed following their specifications.

Many of those inventions were just prototypes. Jimmy wanted to improve the lives of many people, but not everyone had been able to seize the opportunity, so now he planned to create a private company.

His aspirations had escalated to global dominance, though he wasn't in a rush. He knew he had several shortcuts, but also knew he had to amass a fortune to prepare for potential enemies who might arise in his path.

To start, and considering his age, he designed a highly effective weapon for personal use: an electric cane capable of emitting a charge so powerful that, at full capacity, it could end the lives of several dozen people.

Of course, Jimmy hadn't tested that prototype on real people. He had only used it on a tree.

Now, if he wanted to build a foundation for his creations, he needed money fast.

Currently, the rise of personal computers and operating systems like Windows 3.0 was creating a growing demand for software.

Developing useful applications, from productivity tools to video games, could generate the wealth he needed to build his empire.

It was an interesting option to get rich... though somewhat boring.

Maybe creating video games would be more fun. Mathematics played a crucial role in all of them, and with their growing popularity, they were starting to make their way onto computers too.

"Anyway, now I'll focus on maintaining my mental peace for the rest of the day." And, as typical for Jimmy, the way to do it was by meticulously organizing his workspace.

After losing his old workshop, he made sure to build a more practical one. First, he needed it to be a space that could be moved in the future if his plans came to fruition.

The fun hours ended when his mother called him for dinner.

"Jimmy, dinner is ready!"

"Can't I go after?"

"You know we need to spend time together as a family. If you don't come up now, we'll stop supporting everything you have in mind from this moment on." Judy wasn't someone who could be easily intimidated by her genius son. If there was anyone smarter than him, it was her.

The life of an adult was incredibly advantageous, though with the huge disadvantage of dying faster. However, from a legal and business perspective, Jimmy couldn't do anything without his parents' help until he became an adult.

So, he climbed the stairs and walked toward the dining room. He smiled harmoniously and ate the Italian food his father had ordered for the family.

Jimmy talked about the many things he planned to do later, but his mother interrupted him as soon as she had the chance.

"Are you at least going to register the patents?" Jimmy asked, then continued talking about the game he wanted to create.

"If you think I should, I will. Now eat and stop talking about that." Judy replied firmly.

Jimmy didn't feel pressured. He still had no idea what kind of game he would make, but he was sure it would work because every invention of his had the potential to completely revolutionize the video game industry.

If he didn't take that path, he wouldn't have the money needed to continue with his inventions. This was the only way he had to move forward as an inventor.
