Chapter 14 - Something Strange

When Jimmy got bored of being in the library because his numerous ideas were leading nowhere, he thought it would be better to study in a more open environment like this. So, he grabbed an advanced theoretical mathematics book.

Suddenly, his eyes seemed to shine a little as he started looking at the numbers, which were like song lyrics to him.

The dark formulas from the book quickly became clear in his mind.

After flipping through ten pages, he could still clearly remember the first formulas, theorems, and even the process of solving the examples on each page.

What was happening right now in his mind? Obviously, it was due to his exceptional memory, one of the qualities Jimmy had that he didn't share with just anyone.

These qualities, which anyone else would consider a kind of superpower, were for him simply common traits.

Jimmy quickly moved to the next page of the book and couldn't wait to continue reading. His reading speed was very fast: he could read ten lines at a glance and finish a page in less than half a minute. The formulas, theorems, and various explanations and analyses were etched into his mind. Even when the book was closed, it was still crystal clear in his mind.

Jimmy then pulled out his homemade rubber bands and kept studying.

At this point, he was ecstatic and continued flipping through the book. It was fast. In less than half an hour, he had read through half the book.

Leibniz's formula, Lagrange's Mean Value Theorem, Cauchy's Mean Value Theorem, Gauss's formula—it was good to review these things every once in a while.

But even if he had only read it once, the formulas, theorems, and standards in the book were clear. Not only that, but variations of the formulas also quickly appeared in his mind.

In situations of innovation, there was nothing better than reviewing advanced mathematics.

At this point, Jimmy was happy and continued flipping through the book. An hour later, he turned to the last page and closed the book. The dense formulas and theorems passed through his mind. He even remembered on which page each formula was located.

At this point, Jimmy stopped being ecstatic.

It was time for innovation, where even the smallest detail could trigger a series of mistakes that could take him weeks to fix.

Jimmy set the advanced mathematics book aside and took the general physics book that was next to him. He kept working hard. In this base of information he knew just enough about, it seemed like he had opened the door to his desire to learn. He was immersed in his studies and couldn't free himself from it.

While Jimmy was engrossed in reading, some people finishing their training outside were watching him.

When they saw Jimmy, their expressions became strange. When they saw that he was reading a book, their expressions turned interesting.

"Did this kid crash into the library shelf?" asked the leader of the group, mocking with his friends, who, by the way, was quite fat.

Still, in these times, obesity was like a basic standard to begin bullying the more fragile ones, like Jimmy, who could fly off with just one push.

"I think so, that's probably what happened," said another guy with messy hair, who also wore glasses.

The other three accompanying him nodded as if speaking seriously.

The five whispered among themselves while their faces, full of mockery, looked at Jimmy, waiting for him to notice them.

"Hey, kid, we'd like to sit in your spot." The fat guy mocked with his friends and said, "If you don't want us to kick you out of here, you'd better leave."

"Alright." Jimmy nodded as he began packing his things, but then said, "I hope you don't mind if I tell Max that you're kicking me out of here."

"Max, who the hell is Max?"

"Shut up, idiot, if Max finds out you're talking about him, he'll beat you up with his college friends."

"I don't think you're friends with Max," said the fat guy with a bit of fear.

"I do their homework," Jimmy said with a provocative smile.

"He's talking nonsense, don't believe him, Liam."

"Looking for trouble again, fatty?" Max, who was tall and thin and seemed to have a really bad attitude towards those who caused trouble, approached them when he saw they were bothering little Jimmy.

"We were just saying hi..." Liam's expression turned as white as paper; he seemed to be really afraid of Max, who had made no move.

Max looked at Jimmy, waiting for him to say something.

But Jimmy changed his expression and said, "It's not worth it; they'll probably understand not to bother me again if it's to prove their masculinity with someone smaller than them."

"Sorry..." Liam's face wrinkled as he quickly left with his friends, giving Jimmy a second glance, who felt really good.

Max looked at Jimmy after that and said, "You should avoid the fields; those who smoke weed or drink tend to hang around those places."

"I'll keep that in mind from now on," said Jimmy, who was learning more and more about how school worked.

Max then said goodbye and returned to his friends who were waiting for him. Max, who quickly walked away. Jimmy also remained focused on his books.

Undoubtedly, things in school were hierarchical, and he had forgotten that for a moment.

...

The next day, Jimmy woke up early in the morning. After washing up, he went to school and headed to the library. He had been too absorbed in reading all of yesterday. He read through all the university-level courses at once, and now he was back in the library.

He wanted to solve the problems that his business partners had been asking for, so he arrived well before classes started.

This time, he brought with him many things he needed to make this process automatic, so he set everything up in the room in the library and left it working with the strange-looking machines.

Returning to the library, Jimmy looked at the bookshelf where a fire incident had occurred some time ago.

He grabbed some books on medical illustrations and pharmacological analysis from the shelf and walked toward the self-study area.

There weren't many people in the library on Friday mornings. Most people slept in and barely made it to class. After looking around the self-study area, Jimmy chose a seat in a corner and sat down, entering study mode shortly after.

Soon after, Jimmy felt some movement next to him. He turned around and saw that the girl who had sat next to him was Ally Andrews, the girl he had met recently outside of school.

"Is something wrong with a girl sitting next to you?" Ally looked at him, seeming to show no intention.

"It doesn't matter," Jimmy shook his head slightly.

"Are you studying medicine now?" Ally pointed to the stack of books on medical illustrations and pharmacological analysis.

"I just wanted to know more."

Jimmy's response made Ally's eyes show skepticism. She suddenly thought of something, but then turned her head and started doing her homework.

The library went back to silence.

Jimmy's attention was on the books. His eyes were focused. Several illustrations of medicines passed through his mind, and he remembered all the presentations and effects of the medicine.

The reason he wanted the medical illustrations was simple: he wanted to clarify the types of medicine that could help boost his growth.

He had recently obtained special formulas that had occurred to him to expand his body's potential. That's why, if he wanted to stimulate his potential, he needed to use medical knowledge. However, he didn't have the necessary technology or equipment.

But it was enough to know what he needed to begin working with it.

Jimmy's reading speed was also increasing. He read one page every ten seconds. However, he mentally remembered the names and effects of the medicines.

In the library, which was completely silent except for the soft murmurs from outside, the only sound was the sound of him turning the pages of the books.

Soon after, Jimmy felt that the atmosphere was a bit strange. He looked up and saw another girl in front of him.

The girl was wearing a short skirt. Her skin was slightly tanned, and she could be considered a beauty by modern standards. However, she lacked the more reserved aura that Ally had beside her.

Ally's face showed some strangeness, but she said nothing.

"Hi, I'm Alison. I'm Ally's best friend."

Alison smiled and extended her hand toward Jimmy, who was really surprised.

"Hi, I'm Jimmy."

After a soft handshake, Alison withdrew her hand and looked at him intently. "It didn't seem like you were studying. Are you teaching Ally for her exams?"

"Should I teach her?" Jimmy looked intently at Ally, who seemed much more nervous.

Alison took advantage of the silence and said, "You're more normal than Sheldon, who tried to teach us but didn't know how to express himself so others could understand."

"I understand..." Jimmy seemed to understand what these girls were after.

"About the payment..." Ally mentioned this but then fell silent.

"How about a kiss?"

"Eh?"
