Chapter 2 - 2. Pregnancy Without a Father

The Douluo Continent is a world ruled by spirit power, where every individual possesses the potential to awaken a Martial Soul—an innate force that can take the form of a weapon, creature, or tool depending on a person's talent. Over time, the power of Spirit Masters has evolved, giving birth to great heroes who shook the world.

After thousands of years of conflict and advancement, the Douluo Continent is now divided into three great empires: the Xing Luo Empire, the Dou Ling Empire, and the Tian Hun Empire.

However, peace among these three empires began to waver with the arrival of a foreign power: the Sun Moon Empire. This empire hails from the Sun Moon Continent, a separate landmass that merged with the Douluo Continent around 4,000 years ago. Unlike the native empires that rely on traditional spirit power, the Sun Moon Empire developed advanced technology based on soul tools, making it a dangerously powerful military and technological force.

With ambitions to conquer the entire Douluo Continent, the Sun Moon Empire launched a massive invasion. For a time, however, the three original empires of the Douluo Continent managed to unite their forces to face this threat.

Among them, the Xing Luo Empire stands as the strongest of the three great empires.

In a remote corner of the Xing Luo Empire lies a small, almost forgotten village.

In this modest village lives a young woman whose beauty has become a local legend. Her graceful appearance and natural charm made her name well remembered, even though the village lay far from the bustle of the outside world.

Her name is Long Ruyin.

Long Ruyin has long, glossy black hair, soft as silk, usually tied in a neat bun or with a simple pale gold ribbon. Her skin is fair as snow, flawless and smooth, paired with warm golden-brown eyes—eyes filled with the compassion and resolve of a mother.

Her face is perfectly oval, adorned with delicately arched eyebrows and soft pink lips that always carry a gentle smile, as if she holds the world in peace. Though her body is slender, an elegant and maternal aura of warmth surrounds her, bringing calm to anyone near.

Though she is no longer young, her charm has only matured—like a flower blooming in its finest season. Her beauty is not flashy, but it has a soothing allure, like the warm sunlight of a peaceful morning.

At this moment, Long Ruyin is sitting on the porch of her wooden home, enjoying the warmth of the morning sun. In her hand is a cup of still-warm tea.

Suddenly, a red-gold light shot down from the sky and entered her abdomen—without sound, without tremor.

The light moved so swiftly that in the blink of an eye, it disappeared into her belly without leaving a trace. Long Ruyin gasped, her hand instinctively resting on her stomach, which suddenly felt warm.

"What… What just happened?"

She felt no pain at all when the light entered her body. She only felt a sudden warmth in her stomach.

Unbeknownst to her, the soul of a legendary dragon king had chosen her body as its new place of rebirth.

Since that day, Long Ruyin began to notice unusual changes in her body.

At first, she often felt tired, even without doing hard labor. Her breathing grew short after climbing hills, and her body felt warmer than usual, as if a small fire constantly burned within her. Food she used to enjoy began to taste bland, and on some nights she awoke to a heartbeat that beat just a little faster than normal.

A few weeks later, everything became clear when she went to visit the local doctor in the village.

When the doctor examined her, they discovered a life growing inside her. That meant—she was pregnant.

At first, Long Ruyin couldn't believe it. She had never even been physically close to a man in her life. How could she possibly be pregnant without reason?

"I'm... pregnant?" she murmured softly, staring at her stomach with a mix of confusion and emotion. She tried to recall anything that could explain it, but the only thing that came to mind was that red-golden light that had entered her body that day.

She still didn't believe it at first. But over the next few months, she started experiencing all the signs that only pregnant women had. Her belly also grew larger by the day.

Long Ruyin sat quietly on the edge of her bed, her right hand gently resting on her now slightly rounded stomach. Her golden-brown eyes reflected the flickering candlelight in the stillness of the night.

"I'm truly pregnant..." she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of awe and fear.

However, as time passed, her fear gradually gave way to a peacefulness she had never felt before. Every time she placed her hand on her stomach, she felt a warm pulse—not just a sign of life, but a sign of hope. It was as if the child radiated a gentle yet majestic power from within, protecting her.

Each night, she would talk to the baby growing inside her, telling stories about the world beyond her home—about the wildflowers that bloomed in spring, the little birds that liked to perch on her rooftop, and the night sky filled with stars.

"Whoever you are... I will protect you," she said one night with a gentle smile.

Her pregnancy progressed smoothly—so smoothly, in fact, that it puzzled the village healers who secretly checked on her. There was no pain, no excessive nausea, and the child within her developed at an unusually fast rate.

By the sixth month, Long Ruyin's body showed even more extraordinary changes. Her belly was now the size of a woman nine months pregnant, and her skin emitted a faint golden glow under the moonlight.

Despite her condition, her body didn't seem burdened at all. She was still capable of working even with her enlarged belly. Of course, the villagers wouldn't allow that. There were still healthy people among them who could help.

As for the villagers' reaction to Long Ruyin's pregnancy—they were oddly positive. They often brought her food and refused to let her work so she could focus on caring for the baby.

This wasn't without reason. Ever since Long Ruyin became pregnant, the village had experienced unexpected good fortune. Their harvests were abundant, the weather remained fair, and common illnesses that used to trouble them vanished completely.

Moreover, whenever someone tried to harm or disturb Long Ruyin, misfortune would immediately strike them before they could even act.

The good luck surrounding Long Ruyin's pregnancy began to stir speculation among the villagers. Some believed she had been chosen by a god or powerful mystical force, while others felt that something far greater and more mysterious was behind these strange events.

However, Long Ruyin didn't dwell too much on it. Her focus remained on the baby growing inside her. Though she sensed that something extraordinary was at play, she chose to embrace the peace and quiet that had entered her life.

Whenever she walked through the village, people greeted her with warm smiles, hope, and gratitude. They believed something miraculous lay within Long Ruyin and her child—something that was bringing blessings to the entire village.

By the ninth month, Long Ruyin's belly had grown remarkably large—larger than most women at full term. Not only that, the soft golden light that enveloped her skin had become more pronounced, as if her body was radiating an unexplainable divine aura.

That morning, Long Ruyin sat on the porch of her wooden house, gazing at the calm surroundings. A gentle breeze blew, carrying the scent of fresh earth and blooming flowers.

Her right hand remained on her enormous belly, the warmth from within comforting her in a way words couldn't describe.

"I will welcome you with all the love in my heart, no matter what happens," Long Ruyin whispered softly, as if speaking directly to the baby inside her.

A few hours later, Long Ruyin began to feel a strange sensation spreading across her stomach. It wasn't painful, but more like gentle waves moving in and out—like warm water flowing beneath her skin.
