What Fate Decided
It was 6 PM, the sky was painted in soft orange hues. Kaito was preparing dinner in the kitchen. He was making grain rice, since he didn't feel like eating much. For a second, he sees the rice moving, but he brushes the thought away. "Everything is just too much these days…" he mumbles, sighing. He gets a notification. It was from Mina. She sent an article. The title was… "Man went missing at 1 AM. His house is a mess and no one knows where he went…" There was also a picture of the man. He had brown short hair, hazel brown eyes and had a tired expression on his face. Kaito's eyes widen as he realizes who it was. He knew this guy, he lived a few streets away from him… His name was Kunal.
Kaito puts the dish on the table. He sits on a chair and looks at the rice. As he stares at it, he sees some of them slowly moving… He scoops a bit of rice on his spoon and takes a closer look… They were moving. This wasn't rice at all… They were… Maggots! Kaito stands up and throws the dish away. "Lucky I didn't eat it…" he thinks. He grabs his jacket and heads to the convenience store. The cashier waves at him. Kaito nods back in acknowledgement. He grabs a cup of noodles with beer and heads to the checkout. The cashier had brown long hair in a ponytail, even though her face was mostly covered by her cap. "Is this all?" she asks, looking at him. Kaito nods. For a split second, he sees the girl's sharp teeth… Back and forth. "Have a great day, sir!" she says, smiling. Before he could say anything, she turned around and went into the 'manager' room. Kaito smelled blood. He saw a bit of blood on the ground when the girl opened the door. He gulps… "Maybe I'm just seeing things…" he mumbles, trembling.
As Kaito walked back home, he felt like someone was watching him. The thought alone sends chills down his spine. This has never happened before, especially in this city. He looks at the lamp post as he passes by. The bloody handprint was replaced with the words "I can see you… You all are just like puppets." The sky started turning darker by the minute. Kaito decides to walk a bit faster so he gets home earlier.
Kaito opens the door of his house. The light in the kitchen was still on. He makes the noodles and sits down again. Suddenly, a cold hand touched Kaito's head… He feels someone's breath on his neck, low and steady. Kaito's breath hitches. "W-who are you…?!" he stutters, afraid. He feels someone's sharp teeth slowly sink into his neck. "We're gonna be one soon… My love… I've been waiting for this moment, when I could meet you again… It's been such a hassle, in that fake body… It's so annoying pretending to be a human being… I love you so much that I just wanna devour you… That way you'll be like me… Cherished in my stomach the whole time!!!" a deep voice said. Kaito bites his bottom lip as the person slowly vanishes. "We will meet again… I can't wait to see you!" the voice whispered before leaving. Kaito holds onto the table… Too many things are happening. Atleast… For him.
Kaito heads to the library next to his room. He didn't use it much, considering him being inside his own room most of the time. There wasn't much in the room, just closets with books in it. Kaito looks at the section where 'History books' is written and looks at it. There were only 2 books on it… He takes a red book and flips through it. Nothing interesting, these only had drawings in them. He puts it back and grabs the brown one. To his surprise, the book didn't even have a title. There were scratches on the cover. He looks at the first page. Chapters were written here. But something catches his attention. One of the chapters… It was named "The solution to the curse". He flips to the page. Some words weren't there… The only words he could read were… "A… the… darkness… sacrifice… bond… ritual… end… curse… solution… explanation… lady… teeth… missing… murderer…" All the other words weren't there anymore. Kaito sighs before he puts the book back and leaves the room. "It's not like I would dare to do anything. Or maybe… Just maybe… I'll exceed my limits and actually do it…" Kaito thinks, shaking his head. He plops down on his bed and falls asleep.
Kaito wakes up to a creaking sound at 2 AM. He rubs his eyes with the back of his hand. He looks around, but realizes… This wasn't his house. He looks at the door… To his surprise, he sees a man's head peeking out. "Good… Night…" the man says, grinning wide. His white teeth were glowing in the dimly lit room. But after he blinked, the man wasn't there. His surroundings were familiar now… It was his room, his house. Atleast, that's what he thinks. He heads to the bathroom, a strange urge to wash his face. After he entered, the door slammed shut behind him. Kaito was baffled… This definitely wasn't normal. He looks in the mirror… His reflection had a knife in his hand. The reflection was smiling, but Kaito wasn't. The light kept flickering. His reflection disappeared a few minutes after. The lights turned back on, as if nothing was wrong. The door opens slowly, creaking softly. It wasn't his room anymore. This was a whole other room…
It looked like an office. Kaito heard voices. "Are you sure you're gonna make that decision, father?" a young, masculine voice asked, worried. Kaito sees two people. A young boy with black hair and blue eyes. Besides the boy, a man with long black hair tied in a ponytail and grey eyes sat on a chair, his arms crossed. "I have to. It's for the world. If no one can stop it, I will," the man answered, sighing. The boy tears up. "But she will kill you! Haven't you seen what happened to mother? I don't want to lose you too… You're the only one I have left!!!" the boy exclaims, tears streaming down his cheeks. The man sighs and pulls the boy into a hug. "I'll come back alive and kicking, I promise," he says, doing the pinky promise with the boy. He wipes the boy's tears away and smiles. "I'll be back soon… Remember, I'm doing something great for humanity, so please… Stay happy!" the man says before leaving. Another man with blonde hair and green eyes enters the room. He had a suit on. "I'll take care of you till your father comes back, okay? Just call me Chase. You're Arthur, right?" he says, sitting down.
The man heads to a graveyard. Many gravestones were old, but there was 1… It was different from the others. There was a cross on it, and it was clean. The man lets himself fall on his knees. He looks at the name forged on the gravestone. "Mia Ermania" It was the name of his wife who had died. The image appears in front of Kaito's face. The lady in the dark sat there quietly, watching as a woman died. The lady just laughed, she enjoyed seeing people suffer. Even though Kaito noticed that the woman was pregnant, she still died there… The thought of having to die before you even can see your child… It wasn't something to laugh about. The man touched the name with his fingertips. He stood up and left, disappearing in the dark… Someone started whispering. It came from every direction. "Please… Help us… It's been too much… We're gonna die soon," the voices plead. Kaito feels a chill run down his spine as a feminine voice starts laughing. It was definitely her. The lady in the dark… How evil is she?
Kaito finds himself in a weird place… He wasn't even supposed to be here. It's strange. Why is he the only one that's here? It's rather quiet. Nothing other than water dripping on the ground was heard. It was probably raining. In front of him, there was a church. He sees the boy again, playing with a sword. Chase looks at Arthur. "Don't hurt yourself!" he says, concern written all over his face. The boy lets go of the sword and turns to Chase. "When will father come back?" he asks. Chase clenches his fists… His body was slightly trembling. He wraps his arm around the boy. "He'll come back soon… Don't worry about it," Chase reassures. Arthur looks into Chase's eyes. "So he's alive?" Arthur asks, almost smiling. Chase nods. Arthur's eyes start shining. "My father is so strong!" he says looking at the sky. "Can we go to him soon?" he asks. Chase smiles at him and pats his head. "If your father won't come… I'll be your father…" he says, his voice lower than a whisper. Arthur didn't hear what he said and continued playing.
Kaito's eyes stay focused on what's in front of him. He sees the father, this time he had a sword strapped on his back. Kaito got reminded… His mother died before he was born, he never got to see his father. He had a brother, who disappeared after he was born. A woman named Elianna took care of him. She died when Kaito was 17, due to a car accident. Kaito shakes his head and looks at the father again. He definitely didn't see him. It's not like he can. In front of the father, there was a chair. More like a throne… A woman sat on it. Kaito knew her. The lady in the dark… It's always her. She started giggling. "Well… I didn't expect to see you again. How is your wife?" she asks, a sadistic smile on her face. Veins pop out of the man's neck and jaw. "Hey… I have a great deal… Your wife was bearing a child, wasn't she? Give that child to me, I'll leave you alone…" she suggests, pointing at an image on the wall. The image was of his wife. The man shakes his head. But then, Arthur appeared next to the father. "When are you coming back?" Arthur asks, tugging at his father's shirt. The man's eyes widened. The lady laughs, her voice echoing. Two people appear next to the lady. The people didn't look real, they didn't even have a face. They both had a spear in their right hand. "Kill the boy…" the lady orders, pointing at Arthur. The people throw their spear at Arthur. Without thinking, the father pushes Arthur away and the spears hit him… One in his heart. The other one in his head. He falls on the ground. "Father…?" Arthur whispers… His father doesn't answer. The lady smirks, her jagged teeth on full display. "Go back to your own world, kid," the lady says, summoning a portal in front of the boy. She pushes him in it. "We'll see each other… Soon," she whispers, a dark promise was made.
Kaito gets dizzy… Everything around him was changing. Slowly, it turned into a forest. There were so many tall trees here. Thick black fog surrounded him, making him unable to see. Kaito walks to the right, but bumps into something— No… Someone. He heard someone growling. "This is… OUR territory… How dare you enter!" a deep feminine voice said. It wasn't the lady. Her voice wasn't like this. He sees a woman with short black hair that didn't even reach her shoulders. She had glowing yellow eyes and sharp teeth. The woman's face was full of purple bruises. She was wearing a white dress. Before she could grab Kaito, he turned around and ran away. The fog kept getting thinner… He could see everything now, as clear as water. He finds a house. It was huge, even though it looked rather… Broken. All the paint was disappearing, but Kaito didn't give it a thought. He HAD to hide. It's either you try to survive or die. Kaito didn't seem to care about his life. All he wants to do now is… Save humanity.
He pushes the door with all his might. The heavy metal made a screeching sound when Kaito pushed it. The door closes right after he enters. He looks around. There were too many rooms. Without thinking, Kaito enters a room on the right side. There were four torches in the room. The room looked like a kid's bedroom… There was a bed with pink sheets and pink blankets. There were paintings of a family on the wall… It looked so… Familiar. The name "Mia" was written in the diary. It was Arthur's mother. A picture of a girl with a man and a baby was on the nightstand. Kaito heard the front door open. The person had arrived. Kaito hides under the bed. He hears footsteps… Some doors open, and close right after… Kaito covers his mouth with his hand, afraid to make a sound. The door of Mia's room opens… Kaito's heart leaps in his throat. He sees the woman's dress, a few inches away from his hand. It stayed quiet for a while, Kaito was holding his breath. The woman turns around. "You can run but you can't hide~..." she whispered, chuckling.
After a few moments, Kaito slides to the other side and gets up. He brushes the dirt off his clothes. The door was still wide open, but the woman wasn't anywhere to be seen. Kaito leaves the room and crouches. Slowly, he heads to the stairs. The wood made a sound whenever he stepped on it. There was a cross in front of him. Behind it, there was a red light. Was this a church? From the outside it looked like a mansion… He sits down and looks at the cross. The window next to him opens, a cold breeze passing through him. But then, there was a loud snap. The cross fell on the ground, the red light got brighter. Kaito stood up, realizing he was in the first row. He ran to the left side, finding an endless hall. He heard someone. "Oh… May God bless you… May God send you to Heaven… MAY GOD MAKE THIS PLACE CURSED FOREVER!!!" a loud raspy voice yelled. "I see you, Kaito… You're here, with me… I've had enough…" the voice whispered, it came from everywhere. Then a girl with long blonde hair, glasses and blue eyes comes out of a room in front of Kaito. It was Rae. Her face was burnt too… She looked like the lady, but then mixed. "It's been so long, my love… Your father denied it… So I did it myself… And look…" she says, a sadistic smile on her face. "I got you… You're mine now… I'll make sure of that," she promised, tears of blood streaming down her cheeks.
Rae grabs Kaito's arm and leans closer, their faces mere inches away from each other. She looks at the bite marks on his neck and grins. She pushes him into a room and then closes the door. She puts the light on. There were 5 people in the room. On the left side, the father was there, the spears still in his body. Next to the father, Arthur was there, his eyes closed. It was as if he was dead… Next to Arthur, Mia was there. They were all tied up, maybe dead too… Next to Mia, Chase was there. He was alive, but he looked down. Next to Chase… Kunal was there, his face covered with blood and bruises. It was as if he had experienced the worst things ever… He went missing back then, didn't he? Next to Kunal… Elianna was there, she was looking at Rae. Her eyes were blazing with fury. "This is your family, Kaito… Your father, your mother, your brother… Your loved ones… What if I kill them? What would you do?" she asks, holding his hand. "Will you get mad and yell at me?" she says before pointing at the father and then clenching her fist. The father shrinked, before exploding. Blood splattered everywhere. Rae points at Arthur and does the same… He shrinks, explodes… Nearly the whole room was covered in blood. "STOP IT!!!" Kaito yells, grabbing Rae's neck. "What are you doing?!" he asks, breathing heavily. Rae smirks. "I just love you so much, Kaito…" she whispers before doing the same with Mia. Kaito's eyes widened… His heart was beating so fast. He wanted to move, but Rae injected something in him… He fell asleep.
Kaito woke up. He could barely move anything… He was feeling woozy. It was just too much. He opens his eyes fully and notices someone sitting next to him. His eyes widened. It was a woman. She looked like a puppet but… It was a real human being. A real human being… Without a face. As if her face was cut off, and replaced by another one. It's terrifying. It looked like Elianna but… Her face. It wasn't her own face. Next to her a man sat there, looking at him. He had Elianna's face… Even the limbs were replaced. The right arm of Elianna was smaller than the left one. The door creaks softly as it opens. Rae stood there, smiling at him. In her hand, she held Kunal's face. "Are you awake now? What do you think about the presents? I really tried my best to make it as pretty as possible," she says, running a hand through her hair. Kaito looks at the people again. "I can also move them if you want…" Rae says, slowly moving her fingers. Elianna stands up. Then, her face falls off. Blood dripped and fell on the ground. "Oh…" Rae mumbles. "I'll repair them! Don't worry about it… But for now…" she reassures. "Let me make you one of my puppets too…!" she says, her voice dripping with disdain and lust…
