Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Philadelphia at 4 a.m.

"Congratulations to the host for receiving a 3-day nutrient solution pack!"

"Congratulations to the host for receiving a 5-day nutrient solution pack!"

"Congratulations to the host for receiving a 4-day nutrient solution pack!"

"Congratulations to the host..."

What is the essence of this system?

"Isn't this just a gacha loop?"

After reading the description of the nutrient solution, Su Feng felt more confident than ever about his plans: join the NBA, marry a rich and beautiful woman, and reach the peak of life…

But...

Having been a heavy gacha spender in his previous life, Su Feng knew that when an item keeps appearing again and again…

It's probably trash.

After seven straight pulls of nutrient solution packs, he hesitated.

Should he keep going?

"It's all up to lucky number 7… 4396, bless me!"

The essence of gacha addiction is, of course...

Krypton 'til death.

"Congratulations to the host for receiving an A-class Stephen Curry Shooting Pack!"

Did he finally hit the jackpot?

Su Feng's eyes snapped open as he rushed to check the item description.

 Item Info:

Shooting Pack: Enhances the user's shooting speed and stability based on equipped shooting action. High-grade packs may also boost shooting accuracy.A-class Stephen Curry Shooting Pack: Based on NBA legend Stephen Curry's college shooting form.+0.15 seconds to shooting speed20% chance of ignoring defensive interference

"Wait… this is only A-class? That means there could be S-class... SS-class... maybe even SSR that's practically impossible to pull?"

Su Feng was dumbfounded.

What the hell?

Is this system judging my face now?

He took another bite of his pizza and muttered, "I look good from every angle. No way the system is biased."

"Congratulations to the host for receiving a 5-day nutrient solution pack!"

"Congratulations to the host for receiving a 3-day nutrient solution pack!"

Enough!

After receiving a total of 56 days' worth of nutrient solution and just one A-class Shooting Pack, Su Feng was convinced:

This system must be jealous of his looks.

Still, Su Feng wasn't discouraged. He now had a shortcut to gaining iron points—his most precious resource.

"Equip the shooting pack now!" he declared.

But a new challenge loomed…

How could he be sure Kobe would show up at 4 a.m. and be willing to play?

Emmmmmm...

Believe it or not, after thousands of rounds of 1-on-1 with Kobe today, Su Feng secretly scoped out Kobe's house in Philly before grabbing his pizza.

And if Kobe didn't show?

Well… Su Feng had a megaphone ready.

Call it disturbing the peace if you want—but no one could stop him from getting close to Kobe Bryant!

Besides, Su Feng had a solid reason.

In his previous life, as a loyal "Ke Mi" (Kobe fan), he knew he had to become Kobe's friend—no matter what.

He'd protect Kobe's smile for the sake of all 8.1 billion fans!

"Ah, I'm just too noble," Su Feng said, wiping away a fake tear while eating another slice of pizza.

...

Next Morning, 4 a.m. – Philadelphia

Not a hint of sunlight yet. The court was empty.

Su Feng sighed.

"Guess it's time to bust out the megaphone…"

Suddenly, a basketball smacked into him.

Boom—!

"You really are insane."

Even in late May, 4 a.m. in Philly wasn't warm, so Kobe—wearing just shorts and a T-shirt—was shivering.

Su Feng froze.

Holy crap!

He actually came!

My plugin—no, my idol—really showed up!

"I'll say this upfront: I'm not here for some one-on-one with you. I'm done with that pointless stuff. You know you're not my match..."

Before Kobe could finish, a sandwich appeared in front of him.

Su Feng's eyes practically sparkled: Talk later, eat now.

"I made it myself. You probably skipped breakfast. Eat up, then we'll play." Su Feng handed him a bottle of milk.

Kobe remembered his parents' warning about taking food from strangers, but…

His stomach had other plans.

"Hmm... not bad. You really made this yourself?" he asked between bites.

Su Feng pulled out two more sandwiches. "Yup. Don't worry. There's plenty."

Kobe glanced at Su Feng's backpack—stuffed with sandwiches.

Was this… a prepper?

...

As the saying goes: if someone feeds you, you can't say no.

Kobe had completely forgotten his original plan—to reject Su Feng once and for all.

"Let's go! Let's run it back—I want another shot at you!"

"Hold on... wait!" Kobe took a deep breath. "You know you can't beat me, right?"

"I know. You're one of the top high school players in America. I'm just average," Su Feng answered calmly.

"Then what's the point?"

"I want to play in the NBA."

Kobe didn't laugh. Instead, his face turned serious.

He really loves the game... Kobe thought.

"What's your name?" he asked.

"Su Feng. Call me Su."

"Su, huh? Alright, I've decided. From now on, I'll guide your training!" Kobe said proudly.

Su Feng: "..."

Wow. Classic Kobe.

Even as a kid, always acting like the boss.

In his past life, Kobe was always happy to teach young players—he loved sharing his moves. Still, Su Feng didn't expect to be recruited so soon…

"What? I'm the top high school player in the U.S. I'll definitely make the NBA. If I teach you, you better be grateful!" Kobe huffed.

Su Feng shook his head in disbelief. Fate really is amazing.

"I just want to know… you're seriously willing to meet me every morning?"

"No more talk! Let's start morning training! I'll be here every day at 4 a.m.!" Kobe declared with fire in his eyes.

Su Feng: "..."

4 a.m. every day?

That's inhumane!

He only wanted a few games, but it felt like he'd opened Pandora's box.

Still…

This might work.

He might not be a pro gamer—but if it's basketball...

Then it's also hard!

"For iron points!" Su Feng clenched his fists. Determined, he looked at Kobe like he was made of dollar bills.

 Morning Special Training Results:

+1 Mid-Range Shooting (Now: 16)Shooting Speed: Improved with A-class Stephen Curry Shooting PackShooting Accuracy (Interference Ignore Chance): 20%Iron Points: + [multiple entries from missed shots]

Although tired, Su Feng was thrilled with the gains.

He finally understood the Shooting Pack's purpose:

It doesn't override your natural shooting motion. It subtly boosts your rhythm and reaction—Su Feng could feel the change. As for the "interference ignore" part, well… with Kobe defending, he hadn't had a clean look yet.

To make him feel better, Kobe even left gaps on purpose, urging him to shoot.

But Su Feng was genuinely trying to miss...

Because iron points matter more than pride!

In fact, when he first got the system, Su Feng wondered if he should avoid improving his shot so he could keep bricking...

But that's a paradox!

You need to shoot to miss.

And if he doesn't train hard and become good, no coach will let him take shots.

No shots = no bricks = no iron points.

Su Feng believes that if he does not play high-intensity games in the future, this iron score is definitely not so easy to obtain.

Simple as that.

And right now, since he's still "hot garbage," Kobe is basically 10 levels ahead—making the grind smoother.

So Su Feng made a plan:

Keep shooting stylish but slightly bad shots in future games—fadeaways, turnaround jumpers—enough to look cool, not good.

As long as he doesn't shoot too well, he'll still get opportunities.

Handsome and inefficient—that's the perfect combo.

...

"I have class. You don't?" Kobe asked.

"Holiday."

"Which school?"

"Nefalia."

"Damn. Alright, see you this afternoon!" Kobe said with a hint of jealousy and jogged off.

And then...

Kobe waved and left.

Only Su Feng remained on the court.

He took out one of the nutrient packs from the day before and chugged it.

Then he grabbed the ball.

"Even a grasshopper is meat," he said with a grin. "A little here, a little there."

Bang!

Ding! Iron points +1!
