Chapter 2 - First Fight

The moment the resonance point activated, an ethereal glow erupted in the void, pulsating like a heartbeat of the stars, radiating an otherworldly light. A deep hum resonated from the depths of the bridge, rising into a deafening roar as if space itself trembled. Then, all at once, silence fell. The light coalesced into a stable, shimmering gateway—a new Lagrange node, an entrance to uncharted regions of the galaxy.

But before the crew of the *Stellar Voyager* could celebrate, sensors blared with piercing alarms. Emerging from the newly born node was a fleet, ghost-like and menacing. At its forefront loomed an imposing AC721 Heavy Transport Destroyer, its hull bristling with cargo holds and weapon turrets—four SG-2275C cannons and two SG-330B/D anti-aircraft guns showcasing both firepower and defensive capability. Flanking it were agile FG3000 Multirole Frigates, each armed with three SG-1500 cannons, their sleek designs emphasizing speed and maneuverability. Behind them, partially obscured but unmistakably lethal, hovered an Eris I Artillery Destroyer, its single AG-1208 cannon glowing ominously red, heralding the potential for devastating long-range strikes.

"Enemy fleet detected!" Kiera shouted, panic edging her voice. "They're locking onto us!"

Elara quickly steadied herself, analyzing the situation. This fleet's appearance was no coincidence—they had likely been lying in wait on the other side of the node, ready to seize this strategic location. Whether they were hostile forces or interstellar marauders, combat was now inevitable.

"All hands, battle stations!" she commanded decisively. "Activate shields, arm all weapons. Helm, execute evasive maneuvers—don't let them surround us!"

The *Stellar Voyager* surged forward, propulsion systems blazing brilliantly as the ship twisted sharply to evade the enemy's first wave of attacks. The FG3000 Multirole Frigates demonstrated remarkable speed, closing in rapidly while their three SG-1500 cannons unleashed torrents of laser beams, attempting to tear through the *Voyager's* shields. The vessel shuddered under the relentless barrage, shield energy plummeting.

"Prioritize the frigates!" Elara ordered. "Their SG-1500 cannons are deadly—we can't let them get close!"

The gunners responded swiftly, launching plasma rounds from the main cannon that struck one FG3000 Multirole Frigate with precision. Its armor system failed, exploding into fragments scattered across the starry expanse. But the remaining frigates pressed on undeterred, weaving through the chaos with their superior mobility, continuing their advance.

Meanwhile, the AC721 Heavy Transport Destroyer advanced steadily, its four SG-2275C cannons rotating to lock onto their target. A swarm of missiles erupted from its launchers, homing in on the *Stellar Voyager*, while the two SG-330B/D anti-aircraft guns fired barrages designed to intercept counterattacks.

"Deploy countermeasures!" Elara barked. "Helm, adjust course—prepare to strafe that destroyer!"

The ship released decoy flares and chaff clouds; most missiles were diverted, but several broke through the defenses, striking the port side. The bridge shook violently, alarms blaring as damage to the propulsion system caused efficiency to drop.

"Shields down to 60%," Kiera reported. "Energy systems are overloaded—we can't hold out much longer."

Elara clenched her jaw, her gaze fixed on the distant Eris I Artillery Destroyer. It lingered at the rear, its AG-1208 cannon nearing full charge, its muzzle flickering dangerously. Once fired, this massive weapon would pierce the *Stellar Voyager's* armor system with ease.

"Helm, set a direct course toward the artillery destroyer!" Elara commanded firmly. "Full speed ahead."

"Captain, this will expose us to the heart of their formation!" the helmsman exclaimed.

"Execute the order," she said resolutely. "This is our breakthrough."

The *Stellar Voyager* surged forward like an arrow, charging straight into the enemy fleet's core. The FG3000 Multirole Frigates tried to intercept but their agility led to collisions in the chaos—one frigate lost control of its propulsion system, exploding instantly, its debris forming a natural barrier.

As they approached the Eris I Artillery Destroyer, Elara gave the command: "All weapons, concentrate fire!"

Main and secondary cannons opened up simultaneously, torrents of energy slamming into the destroyer's shields. Explosions illuminated the starscape, yet the shields held firm. The Eris I's AG-1208 cannon neared completion, its energy system emitting a low hum.

"Prepare the resonance disruptor," Elara turned to Kiera. "Fire it now."

"This thing hasn't been fully tested!" Kiera protested.

"No time for hesitation," she replied calmly. "Fire."

A small device shot toward the Eris I, attaching itself to the hull. It activated, releasing an energy pulse. Instantly, the AG-1208 cannon's glow dimmed, its power dissipated, and the command systems faltered, causing the shields to collapse.

"It worked!" Kiera exclaimed in astonishment. "Their cannon is disabled!"

"Now, destroy it!" Elara ordered.

The *Stellar Voyager* unleashed everything, tearing through the Eris I's armor. With a thunderous boom, the most threatening ship exploded into a fiery ball, scattering debris across the void.

Without their flagship, the enemy fleet descended into disarray, but the AC721 Heavy Transport Destroyer and surviving FG3000 Multirole Frigates refused to give up. The AC721's four SG-2275C cannons continued pounding, while the frigates' SG-1500 cannons attempted to flank.

"Target the destroyer's propulsion system," Elara directed. "Disable its mobility."

The *Stellar Voyager* circled behind the AC721, concentrating fire on its thrusters. Shields collapsed, propulsion died, and the behemoth drifted helplessly, becoming an easy target.

Deprived of support from the AC721, the FG3000 Multirole Frigates lost coordination, and the *Stellar Voyager* picked them off one by one. Each explosion bolstered morale until the last enemy vessel perished.

With the battle over, cheers erupted on the bridge. Elara slumped into her command chair, exhaustion mingling with pride. They had repelled a formidable foe, but the *Stellar Voyager* bore heavy scars, and casualties among the crew weighed heavily.

"Damage report," she murmured.

Kiera reviewed the data: "Shields nearly depleted, multiple hull breaches, propulsion systems require urgent repairs. But the resonance point remains stable—we can continue the mission."

Elara nodded, her gaze returning to the shimmering node. They had won this battle, but it was only the beginning. Deeper in the starscape lay more challenges.

"Repair the ship, prepare to construct the stargate," she declared firmly. "This sector won't stay quiet for long."

The *Stellar Voyager* drifted toward the resonance point, wreckage trailing behind, the stars illuminating the path ahead. Elara took a deep breath, resolve burning within her—no matter what lay ahead, she would lead her crew to forge a legend.
