The EXP that once towered now sat at a mere 392. Kaizen let out a long breath, feeling the mental fatigue that followed a rush of growth.
With the added Intelligence, his Chakra increased to 520.
He opened his inventory and browsed through the scrolls he had yet to use.
Fireball Scroll — (Cannot learn. Please unlock your chakra nature first.)
Advanced Medicine of Alchemy — (Cannot learn. Please master Pillcraft first.)
Kaizen chuckled and shook his head. "So much power, and yet still can't learn it. Just like life…"
He stood at a crossroads now, unsure of what to do next. He had reached a critical point of progression—but there was no clear path forward.
As he sat in quiet contemplation, he overheard two men talking at a nearby stall.
"Did you know the daimyo asked some ninja to be his guards?" one of them whispered.
"Yes! And I heard the Kage of the village will come himself to introduce them," the other replied excitedly.
"Tch, that Kage... isn't he just lucky he was Tobirama's student?"
"Don't say that. My friend, a merchant, said they're selling books written last year—something called The Will of Fire. That Kage is said to be the strongest of all."
Kaizen leaned against the wall, arms crossed, a smirk playing on his lips. He didn't need to hear names. He knew exactly who they were referring to: Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage.
He had come to the Land of Fire hoping to escape the chaos of shinobi wars, thinking it safer to remain a civilian. But now, hearing this... he began to doubt that logic. The Akatsuki... they attacked the Five Great Nations eventually. Just because it wasn't shown in the anime doesn't mean the smaller towns and cities were safe. After all, those lunatics hated war, and all the nations were involved in one.
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Maybe I can join Konoha… even just as a merchant. From there, I could learn techniques, find strong skills, and become more than just another bystander. Besides, if I'm inside the village, I'll have better access to battle manuals, healing herbs, chakra techniques...
His eyes glimmered with purpose.
"I hope I can see something tomorrow," he muttered.
Kaizen returned to his small inn, where the windows faced a busy street that shimmered under the moonlight. His mind raced with possibilities.
He had come to this world with knowledge from the anime, a cursed blessing that painted every moment with anticipation and dread. The countdown on his system ticked away—each second a reminder that something greater, something dangerous, was coming.
And yet… he was still just Kaizen.
He sat at the edge of his bed and looked at the flame of the oil lamp flickering beside him. "If I want to survive this world… no—if I want to thrive—I need power. Not just stats. Power that can change fate."
His fingers traced the scrolls again, his heart heavy with ambition.
"Tomorrow… I'll find a way in," he said, eyes narrowing.
