Chapter 5 - Edric And Revenge

After dropping the bombshell, Silas stayed silent, knowing full well that this would take a while for anyone to digest.

'He's not blinded by the sudden wealth,' Silas thought, watching Logan stare at the hologram. 'That's a good sign.'

Logan's brows furrowed. "I don't know anything about running a family empire," he said. "How am I supposed to handle all of this?"

Silas kept observing him as he answered. "You're not expected to. Not immediately."

Seeing Logan lost in thought once again, Silas stood up.

"I'll give you some time to process this," Silas said, walking to the door.

Giving a nod, Logan laid back down the moment Silas left the room.

He went through all the events that had happened over the past two days, going from his all-time low to now.

Watching the same nurse enter the room after Silas left, Logan realized he hadn't even assessed his own situation properly.

'No bruising at all?' he thought, scanning his body.

He only felt slight aches in the places where he'd been hurt.

As the nurse moved quietly around the room, Logan finally spoke.

"I was in worse shape than this. Way worse."

"You were," she said with a nod, still not looking at him. "Multiple fractures. Internal bruising. Torn muscle tissue."

Logan frowned slightly, glancing down at his arms. "Doesn't feel like that now."

This time, she met his eyes, tapping a crystal charm hanging from her belt. A blue pulse shone across its surface. "Healing affinity. I handled your treatment while you were unconscious."

Letting that sink in, he sank deeper into the bed and exhaled slowly.

"Guess I'm not used to being on the receiving end of that kind of power."

The nurse smiled. "Most aren't. But you're a Mercer now, sir. You'll need to get used to it."

Logan nodded.

"You will experience some aching at the regenerated places," the nurse continued, "but you're fine to get out of bed and move around, sir."

"Alright, thank you," Logan answered, scratching his head.

'It feels awkward to have her call me sir,' he thought, slightly embarrassed.

Standing up, Logan walked to the nearby window.

Looking down, he stared in amazement at the magnificent view.

Countless smaller skyscrapers and high-tech buildings surrounded the one he was in now. Occasionally, he watched massive flying shuttles fly past.

This was the first time he'd ever seen a shuttle in person, leaving him speechless at how large and fast they actually were.

'These mana stone-powered flying shuttles cost millions. Not only that, they generally aren't even available for the public to buy,' Logan marveled.

Watching most ships dock under the building and countless goods being unloaded made Logan somewhat aware of the wealth he was truly inheriting.

'Unless I want to be trapped in this building for the rest of my life, I need to grow stronger myself,' Logan thought, understanding full well that he was a very easy target right now.

'My system is the best way to do that, I'm sure of it.'

[Cooldown 44:54:23]

'Two days until I can try the system again.'

'In that time, I'll need to know exactly what I have.'

Spacing out as he stared down from the windows, he still could not fully believe what had happened to him.

'It feels like a dream,' Logan thought, turning around.

He heard the door open once more. This time, two butlers walked in with fresh clothes.

"Good day, sir. I am Head Butler Edric Vale. I've worked for your family for the past three decades," an elderly man said, bowing slightly.

"No need for the formalities," Logan said, waving his hand. "I'm Logan Mercer, and I'll be in your care from now on."

Giving a nod, the two butlers raised their heads again and quickly sprang into action.

"Sir, please. Let us help you get dressed," the butler beside Edric asked, while both of them bowed slightly.

Logan nodded, accepting their help.

First, he was given a strange bodysuit with engravings on it. Putting that on was quite the struggle. Thankfully, his butlers helped him put it on properly.

The moment the bodysuit was in place, he felt energy surround him as it shrank to perfectly fit him.

After that, he put on brand-new clothes that felt extremely soft and warm compared to the junk he used to wear.

'It was a little uncomfortable to let them help me get the bodysuit on, but thankfully they allowed me to put the rest of my clothes on myself,' Logan thought, looking at his new clothes in the mirror.

"Your bodysuit runs on thin mana cores embedded within the suit," Head Butler Edric explained. "It has a limited amount of mana, but it'll protect you from the majority of attacks."

"What about a diamond-grade attack?" Logan asked, curious.

In this world, cores had six different evolution grades: Gray, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Each grade was far more difficult to get out of than the last, resulting in massive gaps of strength.

"The bodysuit can withstand up to three attacks from Gold-grade cores, while being able to withstand a lot more under that grade," Edric said. "Your body wouldn't be able to handle a better suit either, sir."

"But you don't have to worry about those attacks," Edric continued, straightening his clothes. "We would be able to detect someone that powerful, and then Silas or other S-rank hunters will deal with them."

'Wow,' Logan thought, happy and amazed.

"If I may," Edric asked, getting Logan's attention. "You have a scheduled meeting in around an hour from now, in which you will be explained more about the details of your inheritance."

"Alright, thank you," Logan nodded.

"Also, Sir Silas left a message for you," Edric said in a neutral tone.

"Go on," Logan nodded.

"He wants to know what you want to do in regard to your former school and the individuals: Tiël Lent, David Bruus, and James Coreman," Edric asked, maintaining his neutral expression.

At the mention of those names, Logan's expression hardened. The memory of being beaten wasn't something he would forget anytime soon.

'This will be difficult,' he thought, calculating.

'Retribution is easy.'

'But I can't afford to act on impulse anymore.'

After thinking some more, Logan smirked and made a decision.

"I want an investigation into the school and all corrupt teaching personnel removed," he started. "As for James Coreman, I want him barred from teaching ever again. Also, prevent him from taking any future jobs outside of hunting-related tasks."

"Tiël and David... leave them be," Logan continued after a moment. "For now."

Having prevented James from ever working again, Logan knew it would only be a matter of time before he was forced to go hunting and would likely die doing so with his D-rank affinity.

For Tiël and David, he had a slightly different plan—a more satisfying plan.

Seeing Edric give him an approving look before leaving, Logan knew he'd chosen the correct path.
