In chapter 7 I made a mistake of naming Ariel as Jenny. Ariel is the owner of Eevee.
----------
The first thing Eevee saw when he opened his eyes after hatching from his egg was Ariel's face.
The girl's face was lit up with joy and happiness as she held him in her arms and lifted him high into the air.
From that moment, Eevee regarded this girl as his best partner in the whole world.
So, when Eevee found out that Ariel loved Sylveon, becoming one instantly became his life's mission.
He trained hard, constantly battling powerful Pokémon. He wanted to grow stronger—to evolve into the beautiful Sylveon.
But no matter how hard he tried, it just didn't happen.
If he couldn't evolve into Sylveon, Ariel would definitely be disappointed, wouldn't she?
Deep down, Eevee was also a little scared, a little worried.
If he evolved into some other form of Eevee… would Ariel still like him?
"Vee…"
Eevee drooped his head, utterly dejected.
The raincloud above his head began to pour again.
"Guu?"
Bewear noticed Eevee's condition. It blinked curiously and asked what was wrong.
Seeing the big fluffy Pokémon in front of him, Eevee poured his heart out, sharing all his worries.
"Vee vee…"
"Guu."
Carver stood nearby, watching the interaction between the two Pokémon. He took a look at Eevee's information again.
He noticed something important—this Eevee was male.
An idea began to form in his mind. He then walked outside to find Ariel and asked her about Eevee's personality and typical behavior.
Talking about Eevee, Ariel's face lit up with pride.
"Eevee is such a reliable partner!" she said.
"When we first started traveling, we encountered all sorts of dangerous Pokémon! But Eevee protected me every time—don't be fooled by his size; he's actually really strong!"
Carver nodded. Seems like Eevee has quite a bit of talent for strength.
In terms of evolution, it seemed like Flareon or Leafeon—both physically powerful forms—would be better fits for him.
But this Eevee insisted on evolving into the cute and delicate Sylveon…
A male Eevee, strong and reliable. Its personality was likely Brave or Adamant.
That kind of personality wasn't exactly… cute.
Fairy-type moves often carried a sense of charm and adorableness. When Eevee tried using Baby-Doll Eyes earlier, it wasn't cute or endearing—instead, it was more like an Intimidating Leer.
Completely the wrong direction, Carver thought with a chuckle. No wonder it couldn't learn Baby-Doll Eyes.
"Something wrong, Boss?" Ariel asked.
"I think I understand why Eevee can't learn Baby-Doll Eyes." Carver replied.
He shared his observations with Ariel.
After listening, Ariel's eyes widened. "So, does that mean… Eevee isn't really suited to evolve into Sylveon?"
"There's no such thing as 'suited' or 'not suited' when it comes to a Pokémon's growth. It's about what they want." Carver said.
Even though this Eevee seemed to excel in physical strength, it didn't mean it couldn't develop its special attack abilities. With proper training, it could become a very powerful Sylveon.
So… did Eevee want it?
Hearing this, Ariel started to think.
All along, it had been her dream for Eevee to evolve into Sylveon.
She found Sylveon's appearance adorable and thought it would be perfect for Pokémon Contests.
Carver didn't say anything more. He already understood Eevee's issue, and even without his cheat ability, he was 70% sure he could get Eevee to learn Baby-Doll Eyes.
Returning to the backyard, Carver saw Eevee and Bewear chatting away.
Eevee was sighing while Bewear patted his back gently with its fluffy paws.
"I think I know why you can't learn Baby-Doll Eyes," Carver said.
Both Pokémon turned to look at him.
"Bewear, could you show Eevee Baby-Doll Eyes one more time?" Carver asked.
Bewear nodded and demonstrated.
"Eevee, watch Bewear's movements closely."
Eevee lifted his head and stared intently at Bewear's eyes.
To him, Bewear looked incredibly cute—so much so that he wouldn't want to attack it. His body even felt weak and soft.
A moment later, the Baby-Doll Eyes move ended.
"How did you feel?" Carver asked.
"Vee vee…" So cute!
"Exactly. The key to Baby-Doll Eyes isn't just widening your eyes to intimidate—it's about showing your cuteness, like when you act spoiled or try to be endearing. You need to make your opponent lose the will to attack," Carver explained. "Do you know how to act cute?"
Eevee seemed thoughtful, then tried his "cute" move again.
He ended up cross-eyed.
Carver: "…"
"Guu…?" Bewear was equally stunned.
Baby-Doll Eyes failed. Eevee looked utterly defeated.
"Vee…"
Carver finally understood why Eevee couldn't learn Baby-Doll Eyes.
"Don't worry, take your time. I promise you'll learn it before sunset." Carver reassured him.
"Vee?" Eevee looked doubtful. He had tried so many times already—was it really possible?
This little guy is practically having an existential crisis, Carver thought.
Eevee's Joy value began to plummet.
Enough of that. Let's not waste more time. I've got other things to do today.
Cheat ability, activate!
This time, Carver decided to take matters into his own hands.
With a mere thought, all the techniques and principles of Baby-Doll Eyes were transferred directly to Eevee.
Instantly, Eevee felt like he suddenly understood how to use Baby-Doll Eyes!
His eyes sparkled, and a soft pink glow appeared around them.
Baby-Doll Eyes succeeded.
When Ariel and the others came rushing over, they saw Eevee with his eyes shimmering with a faint pink light—the telltale sign of Baby-Doll Eyes.
Eevee… had mastered the move!
"Vee!"
Eevee dashed excitedly toward Ariel, proudly showing off his new move.
"That's amazing!" Hui and Long couldn't help but cheer for their friend's Eevee.
"Eevee, you did a great job!" Ariel praised him.
"Vee!"
"Congratulations. Looks like your Eevee is incredibly talented! I only explained it once, and he mastered Baby-Doll Eyes," Carver said with a smile.
"Thank you so much, Boss!" Ariel expressed her gratitude sincerely.
However, she had one more question for Eevee.
"Eevee, do you really want to evolve into Sylveon?" she asked.
"Vee?" Eevee's rising Joy suddenly paused.
Ariel looked seriously at him and asked, "I mean… regardless of me, is Sylveon really what you want to become?"
"Vee…" Eevee was a little confused.
"I'm sorry for ignoring your feelings all this time. I've realized that the Pokémon Contest isn't just for cute Pokémon. Even if you evolve into another form, we can still participate!"
Flareon's bravery and strength, Vaporeon's elegance and grace, Espeon's nobility and pride…
"So don't worry, and don't feel pressured. No matter what you evolve into, you'll always be my greatest partner, Eevee!" Ariel promised sincerely.
During this time, not just Ariel, but Hui and Long had also noticed the pressure Eevee was under.
For the sake of evolving into Sylveon, he had worked so hard.
"Vee…"
Eevee's heart was touched.
But in his eyes, a newfound determination burned brightly.
Not just for himself, but for Ariel—he wanted to become Sylveon!
In that moment, Eevee's emotions surged.
The next instant, under everyone's gaze, his body began to glow.
That was… the light of evolution!
