The Syndicate had placed shaped charges on the street-level grates above. The explosion rained massive chunks of concrete and twisted rebar down into the underpass.
A heavy, matte-black armored tactical truck plummeted through the newly created hole, slamming onto the pavement directly in front of Hiro's lead SUV. Simultaneously, two more tactical vehicles sped out from the maintenance tunnels on either side, completely blocking the rear exit.
The trap was sprung flawlessly.
Hiro slammed on the brakes, the heavy SUV screaming to a halt just inches from the fallen concrete debris. The Maybach violently swerved, the anti-lock brakes engaging as Cutie, who was driving, brought the massive luxury car to a perfect, controlled stop angled defensively behind the lead SUV.
Before the dust had even settled, the doors of the Syndicate trucks blew open.
