Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

"No need to thank us, we'll leave now."

After speaking, Rowan held Sienna's hand and walked away. He didn't need anyone to explain. Rowan already knew that if the National Security Bureau was involved, the person they were capturing had to be extremely important.

Back in the train carriage, Rowan pulled Sienna aside and said, "Didn't I tell you to lock the door and not come out? What if something dangerous happened? What if I couldn't protect you and you got hurt? Why didn't you listen?"

As he spoke, he pulled her into his arms. He had really been scared earlier. At first, he thought she was being reckless, and it made him angry. But when he saw how fast she moved, he believed she wasn't someone ordinary.

His little wife had definitely changed. She wasn't that village girl anymore—or at least not in soul. He was grateful for her arrival. He knew from the first moment that he was attracted to her appearance, but more than that, it was her aura and the look in her eyes.

"You were in danger, so I came out. I have to protect you. I won't let anyone hurt you or bully you."

Rowan looked around to make sure no one was nearby, then leaned down and whispered, "Sienna, remember this. You're my wife now. A real person, not a machine. You don't have to protect me. I'm strong too. I can protect you."

Sienna tilted her head and looked at him. She understood what he was saying, but in her mind, wanting to protect him didn't contradict anything. Now that they were married, and she was human, she needed to keep him safe. Humans were fragile. She didn't want to become a widow.

Rowan saw she didn't quite get it, so he said, "Wife, from now on, I'll protect you, alright?"

He would make sure she didn't face danger again. After speaking, he held her hand and brought her back to eat.

"Rowan, what happened out there? Were people arguing?" Felix asked.

Steve and Brandon also looked up at Rowan.

"No. Someone was being arrested. It's taken care of." He didn't explain more.

"That's good." It didn't sound serious. Otherwise, Rowan would've already called them.

Rowan took out food and had everyone eat together.

By noon the next day, they finally arrived at their destination. The group got off the train with their luggage.

They went to a state-run restaurant. "Sienna, let's eat first. After that, we'll take the logistics truck back."

"Okay."

At a hospital on the other side, after examining the suspect, the doctor said, "Three ribs are broken, and he has a lung injury from the impact. He won't fully recover."

Hearing that, the people present were shocked. The girl didn't even seem to use much force. How did he end up that badly hurt?

Ouyang was surprised but still quickly thanked the doctor. "Thank you."

After giving instructions, the doctor left. What they didn't know was that Sienna really didn't use much strength. If she had, that man would've been dead and the whole train damaged.

"You stay here and make sure nothing happens to him. I'm going to call and report the situation," Ouyang said before leaving.

"Director, that's what happened. Please advise on the next steps."

"As long as he's alive, that's enough. We still need him for interrogation."

"Yes."

After the call, Ouyang went to the doctor's office. No one knew what he said, but they were soon allowed to take the suspect away.

After Rowan and Sienna finished their meal, they went to the logistics vehicle pickup point.

Several military wives were already waiting. When they saw Rowan's group arriving, one of them greeted them.

"Captain Rowan, is this your sister? She's really pretty. Did she come here to take care of you?"

"Sister-in-law, no, she's my wife. She came to live with the military unit."

He then turned to Sienna and said, "Wife, this is Sister-in-law Cuilan from Captain Shen's family."

"Hello, sister-in-law."

When the other women heard that Sienna was Rowan's wife, their expressions changed a little. They all looked her up and down.

After about an hour, the car arrived. They were lucky—there were only a few of the wives there at the beginning, and no one else joined.

When they got back to the base, Felix and the other two helped carry their things to the assigned house.

"Rowan, we'll head back now. We haven't been home in two weeks."

"Alright. Once we get settled, I'll treat you to a meal."

Rowan knew they had gone straight to their hometown after completing their mission without returning to the base. Their families were waiting, so now that they were home, they had to go see them.

"Steve, Brandon, you two go ahead. I'll stay and help with the unpacking. I'm alone, it won't be a problem."

"Alright, we're heading off then."

After putting away the things, Rowan cleaned the only available chair and offered it to Sienna.

Then he started cleaning up the room. Sienna tried to help, but Rowan stopped her.

"Wife, just sit and rest. I'll finish quickly. After cleaning, I'll take you to the cafeteria to eat."

Felix added, "Sister-in-law, just wait. It won't take long. You don't need to do any cleaning."

Since both of them insisted, Sienna obediently sat down and waited.

When they went to the cafeteria, many people stared at Sienna, thinking Rowan must have gotten extremely lucky to end up with someone so beautiful.

Rowan had a tough reputation in the unit. His missions were always the hardest, and he never left any enemies alive. Stories about him were widely spread, making him seem ruthless. Because of that, even though he was handsome and had a promising future, no girls liked him. Even when leadership arranged blind dates for him, women lost interest after meeting him and hearing about his reputation.

Rowan was fine with it. He found women troublesome anyway.

Everyone in the unit thought he might stay single forever, given how cold he was around women. Then he returned home and came back married to a stunning wife.

As soon as Sienna entered the cafeteria, she felt the stares. Everyone was watching her, making even a robot like her feel nervous.

Rowan noticed her stiffness and whispered, "Sienna, don't be scared. They're just curious to see what you look like. When they saw how beautiful you are, they couldn't help staring. There's no bad intent."

"Okay, I'm not scared."

She could tell they didn't mean any harm, but she was still a bit nervous.

Rowan took her to a corner seat and then went to get their food.
