Chapter 8 - Proof of A Decade Long Effort

Smiling maniacally as he rushes towards the gigantic golem, Azrael's eyes burn with clear intent to battle despite the difference in strength between the two of them, each of his steps still firm and explosive as if he doesn't have any worry of being killed by this monster that would terrify any ascender who have yet to pass the first floor of the tower.

As for him, the only thing he is feeling right now is the mixture of anger due to how long this monster blocked him from ascending to the second floor, as well as the hope that somehow, despite the thick hide of this creature being more than enough to destroy every single weapon available for him to use, he can find some weak spot that he can utilize against this monster, something that he never had a chance of discovering despite his near decade of experience against it.

Watching him nearing its body, the gigantic golem, despite its practically impenetrable defense, still refuses to let the young man get any closer, tilting its upper body forward as it loads one of its hand chambered, prepared to punch the creature scuttling around beneath it into oblivion, something that it always remembers doing, yet oddly enough, this creature just always came back up time and time again.

Hence the reason why they are currently in this weird impasse is that while it is true that it can suppress this little creature, there is no way for it to kill said creature, and the opposite is true, as the creature doesn't have any way of dealing with it.

Despite this impasse though, it still chooses to turn this creature into meat paste, the fist loaded in a chamber now descending at an alarming speed towards the young man, and it does not stop at a single one, as even before the first punch lands on the ground, it already followed up with its free hand, trying to predict where the little creature will go and hitting that predicted spot.

Meanwhile, looking up at it from down below, the little creature, Azrael, couldn't help but feel even more annoyed than before, the pressure of each of the punches this gigantic golem sends making him feel like it is becoming even more powerful than before, something in him urging to escape from the creature's range of attack, but his mind decided to press on and continue approaching the golem.

'If it is defending itself from me getting close, there should be a reason why I shouldn't get closer to it right?' he said in an attempt to comfort himself to what he always thought is a fruitless endeavor, after all, during the thousands, if not tens of thousands of times that he had crossed sword, if you can even call it that, with this giant golem he had already gotten close enough that he even manages to climb on its body plenty of times, and yet all of those attempt to search for weakness just end up for naught, with him turning into a pool of blood after those attempts more often than not.

Despite all these failures though, he doesn't allow them to weight in his heart as he continues to push forward and approach closer and closer, this attempt of his being one of the successful ones where he got right under the golem's body, giving him an extremely short grace period as his disappearance will confuse this golem for some moments before it realizes where he is.

'Now what sort of strategy should I employ now? There's not a single weak spot on this monster… the thing doesn't even have an eye…' wondering as to what he should do next, Azrael paused for a while as he weigh his choices, first, continue hitting on a place that he had always focused on when he is feeling too timid to try something new, second, exploring the entirety of its body to search for weak spot, something he do when he is feeling lucky enough to gamble, and the last one, something that he never had a progress on each of his attempt, said choice being stealing the treasure being guarded by this creature without defeating it.

'After all, even the skill doesn't say that I need to defeat the thing guarding the treasure to obtain it, it's just, hard to do' he added to himself as he witnesses the chest just a few dozens of meters away from him, seemingly attracting him to risk it all it shines and shimmers, making him feel really tempted.

'If I do that though…' as he recalls how violently the golem would react when he directs his attention to the treasure rather than it though, he couldn't help but shiver as his body still remembers not being able to recover having his still recovering body constantly turning into a near liquid state as the golem pulverizes him time and time again.

'Nah, I'm not a masochist to try something like that, two attempts in that is more than enough for me to know that it's impossible to do that as well…' he said to himself as he lets out a defeated sigh, his eyes involuntarily being dragged towards a particular spot right in the middle of where this creature's face is supposed to be, the only spot where the near perfect golem is damaged, a little crack reaching a few inches deep, a mark of Azrael's near decade long effort.

'Why does that look… even more battered than the last time I left it?' observing the results of his consistent effort to fight it every day for the past ten years, Azrael couldn't help but think like that, this thought not being something he makes up to boost his confidence and battle intent once again but rather a curious question that pops up in his mind from seeing this damage every single day of his life, making him certain that something is really different with that spot, as if it is even more battered than usual.
