"You killed him."We start off the book with a woman sitting in an interrogation room,at an interview by a female police worker. She seems not to care about what the lady is saying. After all, she was looking down at the floor."You killed him, and we all witnessed you do it." Once more,she got no response from her subject. She then took her eyes off her subject and looked at a camera in the right corner of the room. She then turned back calmly and called her subject by name, "Haraa Hali." On calling her that,the subject looked at her. On seeing the reaction, she quickly changed her facial expression and went back to the start. "Why did you kill?"Haraa just kept on looking at her. In anger she stood up and yelled "I saw you, you had just given birth to him,everything was all perfect but then you snapped,you clung to his throat and squeezed the poor thing to death. You killed him! You killed him!"as she banged the table.
Suddenly,Haraa stood up and screamed, "t'wasn't me ! liar, "then caught the lady by her hair and pulled it. She banged her head on the table and picked up her pen , and put it through her eye. The room was filled with blood. Only screaming could be heard from the outside. Haraa let go of her and to the ground she went. She was dead.
The door to the room opened, and five men wearing white protective gear came in and moved towards Haraa. They took her out with an electric bat.
Afterward, they cuffed her and dragged her out of the room.
She was thrown and locked in a cell . It looks like this had been going on for a while. Hours later, Haraa woke up. She got off the floor and sat on a tiny bed in the right corner of her cell. By the looks of her bruised skin, it showed how tortured her life was.
The lady looked up at the ceiling ,closed her eyes, and slowly laid on the bed.
Seconds later, she opened her eyes. She was standing in front of a chevy door. She opened it and as soon as she did, a small boy came running to her shouting "mom! mom!" in a very excited tone. He fell into her arms. Haraa with bliss in her eyes,smiled and went down then touched the boy's cheak and said "Baby I'm back" "I missed you mummy " the boy said to Haraa and then ran away from her shouting "daddy!daddy! mum's back. " He ran upstairs, leaving Haraa alone in the living room. She slowly walked in the direction the boy took while looking around. She too moved upstairs.
Suddenly, a man popped out of nowhere, scaring Haraa. "Honey. Dinner is ready," he said. The lady with a light smiled said "Oh God you scared me" "I'm sorry dear" the guy said and held her hand then pulled her back down stairs to the dinning room, she sat down and the guy served her food saying "it might not look that good but I promise you it's actually good." She dug in.
After swallowing, she smiled, saying,"Oh my God, you weren't lying it is actually good." The guy chanckled, saying,"told you so." Then he walked out of the room. Minutes later, he came back with the little boy who hugged Haraa minutes back. It looks like they were family.
The boy sat next to Haraa, and Haraa picked some of the food on her plate and gave it to the little one. After serving the child,she sat up right and closed her eyes. On opening them,she was back in her cell. It was all a dream.
The cell is opened by the guards. They came in, picked her off her bed, cuffed her, and took her out into a hallway.
It was all white. They stopped at a door with a picture of a daisy on it. One ottawa them opened the door and took her in. He made her sit down on a plastic chair, uncuffed her, and then walked out.
Haraa was now sitting facing a brown eyed brunette woman. She looked like a psychiatrist.
She got up and faced the wall, then said, "I heard that you killed Linda yesterday. God ! It must have been a mess." Haraa just kept on looking at her. "She must have pushed you to your limits. Didn't she?" The lady said but still got no response from Haraa . She turned and sat back down on her desk and then said, "You know what, Haraa? If you want this to work out, you need to let me into your head. We need effective communication. How many times do i have to tell you to talk to me." Haraa remained silent for a moment,then in a very low dark tone said,"I saw them." The psychiatrist pulled a little bit closer and asked Haraa,"Who did you see?" She replied,"My husband and my child. I've been seeing them for a while, but i dont remember them."
Haraa started breathing in loudly and began to panic. The guards came in and cuffed her as she resisted, then took her out.
The physiatrist touched her head in disappointment. An old man dressed in a lab coat walked into the room.The lady angrily said, "Hank, I almost got what you asked me to get from her. Why did you take her away?"The man looked at the lady all disappointed . He calmly said, "Joice, listen, you are paid to help her come back to her scenes, not turn her against us." Joice furiously got up and said,"What do you mean turn her against you? I'm just doing my job, just like you told me to." Hanks turned his back on the lady and walked out of the room.As he was still leaving, joice said in a calm tone,"she spoke." The man fraze for a second and asked."What did she say?" The lady shook her head in confusion, saying,"I don't know,she said she saw them. "Saw who?" Hanks desperately asked. "Her husband and son." Joice said as she sat back down and then added on."You know it must be her brain playing mind games on her. I mean, she is really going crazy and besides the treatment you're giving her. It must be the cause of all the shit she's been doing."
The lady got up, picked up her stuff, and moved out, bumping into Hanks. She leaves him curious and confused.
Haraa was taken to her cell and thrown in like an old sack of potatoes . A man in white came. He stood outside the cell and looked at Haraa, Haraa too looked at him. On seeing that he had gotten her attention, he said, "Take this as usual if you want to have food." He pushed the tray into the cell. On the tray was abandoned pink pills and abandoned glasses of water .Haraa picked up the pill on the tray and chewed it.
As soon as she chewed it, the man walked away. After a few minutes, he came back with food. He pushed the plate into the cell and walked away. Haraa dug in, and as soon as she was done, the five guards came back. They carried her out of the cell to the interrogation room where she killed Linda.
She sat for a few minutes. Afterward, a slim lady about 4.5 walked in with three doctors carrying a machine. She stood in front of Haraa and said, "Haraa Hali , I'm Oriana. Nice to meet you. I hear you got rid of my ex mate. Good. Now honey, you won't be getting rid of me. So we either work together or... You won't like what my machine will do to you."
The doctors started connecting wires on Haraa's skin. She started panicking. "Let them do their job. They won't hurt you, I'll be the one doing it."Oriana tells Haraa with an abandon smile on her face. The doctors did their job and walked out.
Now, Haraa was left in the room with Oriana. "You see that machine those wires are connected to. I call it my speaker, aka.truth ray, now do you know what that does. It makes you speak. Lie to me or make me angry, a thousand volts of electricity go through your body. That's right, a lot of pain. Now, let's get started."
Oriana sat at the table facing Haraa and said, "Who killed him?" Haraa said nothing. Oriana pressed the button on a remote control she had in her arms. Haraa was zapped with electricity, but still, no word came out of her. "You're strong. Now tell me,did you kill him?" Haraa still said nothing. This made Oriana zap her again. Haraa cried out loudly, "I don't know.she said."You are lying. Speak the truth." Oriana yelled and zapped Haraa harder. Only screams could be heard outside.
