DECLAN'S POV
I was finishing up a virtual meeting with some clients when I heard Miliani closing her office door.
Strange, why was she leaving so early? She usually left when I left.
I was curious and decided to ask her, which surprised her.
"Leaving already?" I said as I cornered her at the door.
"Uhm yes sir I-"
"My name is Declan, not 'sir'. I don't want to have to correct you on that next time Peters" I said coldly. I adored her, yes, but I hated when she called me sir. I loved hearing her call my name and 'sir' coming from her annoyed me a whole lot.
"Of course, Declan"
"Good girl. Now where are you running off to so fast?," I checked my watch to confirm the time "It's not even 5pm yet"
"Oh….well I'm going out with someone this evening"
"Is that so?" I said, raising one eyebrow. Who was this 'someone' and what was so important about them that she had to leave so early. "You're going on a date?" I asked again to confirm
"Yes, well something like that I guess" She replied.
A date huh?
I didn't show it but I was annoyed. A date? With who? And why? I tried to control myself and maintain a stoic expression, but the curiosity was killing me and I had to ask.
"With who?"
She hesitated a bit. It felt like she was debating on whether or not to say what was on her mind.
"Is that Important?" She said and I was taken aback. She just questioned me and it looked like she regretted it. I found it amusing. I didn't bother asking more questions, I'd just find out myself.
"No, it's not." I said and walked back to my desk.
"You can go now, Peters. Wouldn't wanna make you late for my date now would I?" I said and started scrolling on my phone aimlessly, trying to distract myself. I could tell that I made her speechless. She left and I dropped my phone immediately.
I was furious to say the least. Was the person an employee of the company? Are they already dating? I couldn't even imagine her with another guy. I could feel my fangs growing out.
Calm down Declan.
I took deep breaths and walked to my window. I could see her trying to hail a cab. She turned to look around and then saw me, she looked away almost immediately and then entered a cab.
Do I make you nervous Peters?
I chuckled softly and went back to my desk. I should've just marked her when I had the chance, maybe told her that I was the one she had a one-night stand with. There was no use beating myself up because of it. I had to find out who this person was and get rid of them.
My eyes sharpened.
You're mine, Peters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My office door opened and I heard footsteps approaching my desk. I didn't look up as I was too focused on what I was doing but I figured it was Miliani
"Mr Pierce, the memo has been delivered to the marketing department. Ms, Lola said she'll get back to you immediately"
"Perfect" I said while still focused on my computer
"These are the files you asked me to sort out sir," She said as she dropped a few files on my desk "And these are the reports from the finance department"
"Schedule a meeting with them for tomorrow afternoon, between 12 or 1pm." I replied
"Of course sir"
She never learns
I looked up at her to correct her but was stunned by the beauty in front of me. She was literally glowing. Miliani had a good sense of style that radiated elegance and poise. Although I had never complimented her on it, I could never get over how well she dressed and how beautiful she looked. Today's outfit was one I had never seen before.
She had on a perfectly tailored, knee-length pencil skirt in a rich dark blue colour. Paired with a crisp, white blouse that featured fitted sleeves that accentuated her curves, making them more prominent. Her shiny ginger brown hair flowed down and rested just a little bit above her shoulders. She paired her outfit with black heels and a simple silver necklace and bracelet.
It was alluring and I didn't notice that I had paused for an awkwardly long time. I shook my head a little and cleared my throat "I felt like you'd correct yourself after the first time, Peters" I said with a stoic expression.
"Sorry. Uhm.. of course, Declan. I'll send them a memo right away."
"Good. Also I'll need another report, a more detailed one for last month's expenses. Add that in the memo as well. Then help me give this letter to the head of Marketing"
"Alright" She said and turned to leave.
"And before you go," I said and she stopped to turn to look at me "Your outfit, It's stunning" I said with a stoic expression and returned my focus to the files on my table.
"Oh.. uh. Thank you, Declan" She said and walked out of the office.
Did I just say that out loud? Crazy. What are you doing to me Peters?
A few minutes later I got a call from one of my employees that I had told to keep an eye on Peters for me. I hoped it was an update on her mystery date.
"I spotted her with Andrew by the elevators sir. They seemed all chummy and flustered."
Chummy? Flustered?
I clenched my jaws tightly.
"Andrew? The one in finance or marketing"
"Marketing, sir"
"I see, is that all?"
"I overheard their conversation and it seems they'll be meeting up at the cafeteria during lunch. I'll ask the other employees if they're close and confirm if he's the one you're looking for, sir"
Lunch ey?
"Alright then. Thank you and continue keeping an eye on them"
"Yes sir" He said and ended the call.
I checked the time. It was almost time for them to go to the cafeteria. I thought of way to distract her for a while and then texted her.
'I need you in the office Asap'
A few minutes later she walked in.
"You needed me?" She asked
"Yes. I'm hungry" I replied
There was a pause and I was trying so badly to hold back a laugh.
"What?" She asked again, clearly confused and a little annoyed.
I looked at her "I said I'm hungry, Peters."
"Sir, with all due respect how does that concern me?"
Ouuu feisty. I loved it.
"Get me food. There's this nice restaurant just across the street. I'm sure you know it. Their pasta is to die for and I'm craving some. So get me some. I've transferred the money to your account and some extra money for you to get food for yourself too" I said with my usual cold expression. I could sense that she was already at her breaking point. If only mind-reading was a power that werewolves possessed.
"Is.. is this even in my job description?" She asked.
While I liked the way she was being feisty, I was equally annoyed when she questioned me.
"I'm your boss, Peters. You do what I tell you to do, without questions" I said and shifted my gaze back to my computer.
I could sense her trying to control herself.
Cute
"Of course, Declan," She said and walked out of the office.
She looks so cute when she's angry
After about 30 minutes she came back with the food. My informant had already told me that Andrew was still waiting for her at the cafeteria so I needed to think of a plan to keep her here.
"Mmmm, smells nice" I said as I took the food from her. "Thank you"
She didn't say a word and just nodded and turned to leave.
"Not so fast Peters" I called out to her.
She turned back to face me. "Yes?"
"Where do you think you're going?" I asked.
"Uh.. the cafeteria to have lunch" She replied.
"Oh I didn't inform you?"
"Inform me about what?"
"You'll no longer be having lunch in the cafeteria. As my assistant you'll need to be close to me so that it'll be easy for you to complete tasks"
"W-wait what?" She said as she stared at me in confusion.
"Peters if there's one thing I hate," I said standing up and walking over to her, we were so close I could hear her heart beating. I leaned closer to speak into my ear. The tension could be cut through by a knife. "It's repeating myself. I expect you to understand what I say without questions or opposition. Is that clear?"
I could sense fear.
She nodded but I wasn't satisfied with that response.
"Use your words" I said coldly
"Y-yes Declan"
A smirk appeared on my face but I quickly returned back to my cold demeanor.
"Good girl. Now sit down and have your lunch". I said and then walked back to my desk.
She went back to her seat and brought out her phone.
Texting your boyfriend ey?
A small smile appeared on her face and I was instantly annoyed. She turned to look at me and caught me staring. I didn't mind. I smirked and focused my gaze on my computer. I loved leaving her either confused or speechless. But I still wished I could read minds. I so badly wanted to know what was going on in her head, what she really thought of me and how she felt about him.
I'll know soon enough.
