Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Automatic Farm a Water Aptitude

Sylas Woken up and leave the house

"Good morning world!!" He said with a smile

Warming the earth and making the crops radiate amber and green light, the early sun gave a beautiful gold glow to the fields.

"Good morning, Sylas!" Mira's voice called him from the field.

He turned and saw her approaching him and he saw her with a basket on her arm.

"Morning," he said waving to her

She came to stand beside him, looking at the crops. "The village is improving. People are learning, slowly but surely. But I've seen some places where the plants aren't as good. Have you noticed that?"

Sylas nodded and glanced over at the end of the field. "Yeah, I've noticed it too. Getting water to all of it is difficult. Hauling buckets all day is wearisome."

Mira furrowed her brow. "You should try speaking to Garen. He's been working on some weird little gadgets lately. He could possibly assist."

"Garen? The blacksmith?" Sylas raised an eyebrow.

She chuckled. "I know, it sounds silly. But he enjoys fixing things. You might be surprised."

Sylas rubbed the back of his neck, considering it. "Well, it's worth a try."

"Tell him I sent you," Mira said with a smile before turning back to the village.

Sylas walked to the forge. The ring of hammering echoed through the air. Garen was working hard, sleeves rolled up and sweat on his forehead. Sparks scattered as he worked the hot metal.

"Hey, Garen!" Sylas shouted.

Garen stopped and looked up. "Something broken?"

"Sort of," Sylas said, stepping inside. "I need your help with something new."

"Now you've got my attention."

"I want to create an irrigation system," Sylas said. "Something automated—so we don't have to lug buckets all day."

Garen rested his elbows on the table, considering. "That's a tall order. But perhaps not impossible. What are you envisioning?"

"Some pipes. A lever. Some means of drawing water from the well and distributing it over the field."

Garen rubbed his beard. "I'd require copper, some stone, iron for the moving parts, and wood for the base. Give me a day or two."

"I'll arrange everything," Sylas vowed.

And as he did, a strange shiver went through him. Then, in front of his eyes, appeared glowing words:

> Blueprint Unlocked: Automatic Sprinkler

Description: A machine that irrigates crops automatically.

Materials: Copper, Wood, Stone, Iron.

Crafting Time: 1 Day

He blinked and didn't let it show. No one else had to know.

"I have an idea for a design," he said, keeping the surprise from him. "I'll bring over the materials."

"Good," Garen said. "Leave them and I'll get started."

Sylas returned at midday with sacks of raw materials. Garen nodded briefly and gestured for him to come inside and leave them off to the side.

"Good. Give us a few hours," the blacksmith said.

Sylas remained and observed for a moment. It was almost soothing—seeing the hammer up and down, listening to the splash of cooled metal. Piece by piece, the odd device began to animate. Pipes joined. A wooden foundation took form. Iron hinges thudded into position.

At last, Garen mopped his forehead. "It's finished. It's not good, but this will function."

The sprinkler was strange-looking—pipes, levers, and valves all crammed together—but it was somehow impressive.

"How do I work it?" Sylas asked.

"Hook it up to the well. Set it over the crops. Pull the lever and let it run."

Sylas smiled. "This is ideal."

"Just don't forget to pay," Garen added with a smile of his own.

Sylas took out a little pouch of coins and gave them to him. "Of course."

Back at the field, Sylas mounted the machine. He fitted a thin hose onto the well and pulled the handle. Water jetted out in a consistent stream, dampening the parched earth. The plants glimmered in sunlight, catching the water like miniature gems.

> New Feature: Automated Irrigation

Your crops will irrigate themselves.

Sylas exhaled slowly and a small grin spreading on his lips. No more bucket hauling. He'd accomplished hours of toil with a single invention.

Then, though, more text surfaced.

> New Quest: Fields of Progress

Goal: Install additional farming automation tools.

Reward: 100 XP and Fertilizer Dispenser Blueprint.

And a subsequent message was posted:

> New Skill: Water's Blessing

Effect: Crops watering is now faster and consumes fewer resources.

He experienced warmth moving from his hands. He could sense something shifting—like he felt more in sync with the planet, the plants, and the water running throughout the planet.

Then there was the biggest surprise:

> Ability Unlocked: Water Aptitude

Passive: +10% effectiveness using water skills.

Active: Able to control water (move, purify, boost agriculture).

Sylas stood frozen. The world snapped into focus. He could sense the water in the air, in the pipes, even in the ground. It was as if water had infused him.

He extended a hand hesitantly. The spray from the sprinkler altered, bending smoothly toward his palm.

"Water magic…" he breathed, staring widely.

A new section of the world was now open to him.

"Sylas?" Mira's voice brought him back.

He turned to find her walking towards him, looking anxious. "Everything all right?"

"Yeah," he replied and struggling to normalize his breathing. "Something. unusual just occurred."

She moved closer. "Unusual how?"

He smiled crookedly. "Good unusual. And I believe it's just the start."
